You've gotten Modman to work since the patch?
-
I haven't said this yet, but ED... You're awesome! Thanks for the fine patch! My ears no longer ring due to the turbine being right by my ears.
-
I actually have had the tiniest bit of performance degradation too. I just built a new gaming rig so it tends to cope well... But I wonder if my noclouds mod being broken is to blame. Hopefully modman will update soon so I can reinstall the mod. Plus, the flickering can get on my nerves a bit too. Is there an alternative to turn off cloud shadows besides the modman patch?

Haw! I happen to be a Goat that attempts to not lie to himself. When playing online I'll be the guy flying 10 meters off the ground and praying... A lot. Yet, if I actually make it to the target area... I'll have the ground cleared up before they can even make a second pass.

Anxious... So anxious... I want to get shot down by a Player Controlled F-15 NAOW!

Black Shark with TouchScreen+other stuff
PedroTheGoat replied to slimakwielki's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Wow... Just Wow... -
All I know is that I've been brushing up on my NOE flying and being really careful to turn all of my lights off in anticipation of the patch. Being invisible is going to be about my only defense against you fast movers. I've also been preemptively begging the guys in the 104th for top cover when we start flying co op together. Anything that has radar = my worst enemy.

Confession and disadvantage....
PedroTheGoat replied to PedroTheGoat's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Okay, I think I need to be a bit more clear on my questions. I'm not here to try to ask if a KA-50 is going to own an F-15... That's just silly. I know that NOE flying and being as stealthy as possible are going to be my only defense during multiplayer... I just don't know how "realistic" Lock On is? Is my NOE flying going to confuse a jets radar at times??? Are things reasonably modeled in LO compared to Black Shark? I just know that the level of realisim is quite high in Black Shark... I just don't want to be in my Black Shark against people who are flying HAWX on the other end of the server. -
My confession... I'm a rotorhead. If Lock On had a single helicopter to fly then it would be on my hard drive right now. I've still thought about buying it just to support ED... But none of it interests me. If it doesn't have a collective stick, then it doesn't interest me. My question is... I understand that I am held to an extremely high level of realism and difficulty when I step into my Black Shark, and am willing to deal with it... But will I be at a HUGE disadvantage playing MP with Lock On players who are not exposed to the same amount of realism?

Can't believe it took me so long to find this!
PedroTheGoat replied to Zenra's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I just got my X-52 in the mail a week ago and am LOVING it with Black Shark. I've always used crappy joysticks though... So it's a HUGE step up for me. :joystick: -
*Snicker* ^^^

I just press F2 then F1 really quickly, that makes it go away too. Even so, battlefield sounds and other stuff always sound just a bit "off" to me.
-
Okay, so I'm still a bit grey on one area... Is the sound engine patch going to be released at the same time as the compatibility patch? I'm growing tired of the cockpit sounding like my head is directly inside a turbine. I don't know if this is my system or if it is a common problem. Still having fun playing your campaign by the way Wags! (I just completed the Courier single mission and am SO proud of myself for the perfect landing I accomplished on the frigate... YES!!!)

I think I might be jumping into Black Shark at a point in it's life when many people are jumping onto FC2, which almost makes me sad. This forum section strikes me as almost dead while the FC2 forum is vibrant... But I just have to say (I have a couple of beers in my system... So maybe I am emotional), WOW. The more and more I play the more and more I become completely impressed. Everything is just so... Real. Every mission I fly I seem to learn something new about my Black Shark. The Deployment campaign taught me so much, and now the Oil War is just blowing my mind. It just feels like there is a real war going on all around me. I see enemy jets in the sky and I drop altitude and pray to God they don't take too much of an interest in me. I see my friendly artillery below me firing and WAY off in the distance, about 3 seconds later I can see little poofs of black smoke. I zoom in my Shkval and see the targets they are firing at in the distance. When an AAA pelts me in the side I see the EXACT spots where I got pelted, and notice the according systems in my cockpit light up with warnings and fires. When I get hit by a SAM and my pilot dies... I see my blood spattered in the cockpit. Just Wow... I've never played anything like this before. At times I feel like I am in the most powerful machine in the world and everything below me should fear my interest. At other times, I feel completely helpless and at the mercy of SAM's and bandits. Just like I imagine you would feel like in real life. I really have no idea where this post is going, but this is the sim it seems like I have always dreamed of. Just awesome.

Totally agreed. Then again, we might be an elite few if a cold start is REQUIRED. 99% of gamers would not have the fortitude to read 500+ pages of material to fly a helo... Or take the the time to learn through other channels... God help them when I crank my 30mm at them. It would be like playing Call Of Duty when there are grenades going off every 3 meters of where you would be standing. Just no fun. And NO... Your stinger will be useless at the range I hit you. So have fun. :pilotfly:

I don't know much about programming and such... But this is just such a WEIRD thread that I have been following for the past three days. So we want to integrate FPS sim goodies along with Flight/Naval/Armor sim goodies... As with most things that happen in the sim world... Wait until you see the military using such an architecture and it will eventually find it's way to our rigs. I somehow think I would hate to be the guy on the ground with the M4 though... Lord knows the Black Shark peaking around that hill about 4km away is going to eat my lunch time and time again.

Spot on my friend. Those are almost my exact settings. I noticed a significant FPS drop when I cranked up the AA just like you. AF is about the same, I keep it fairly low also. I have to use D3DOveridder for Vsync, because our CCC Vsync simply does not work with it. The screen tearing for me gets pretty intense without it, especially noticeable with TrackIR. I've turned Catalyst A.I. on to advanced and I haven't had any weird stuff happen just yet. But when I changed my sampling mode for AA I ran into some weird stuff with the cockpit. So it stays on the basic setting. As far as water and all that stuff, on DCS I've tweaked all the LUA files for the best. One thing the Goat forgot when building his machine was a danged sound card.... I think my lack of a true sound card is causing a good amount of FPS loss due to my processor and board having to deal with all of it. I'll wait until the patch comes out and see if there is a major difference there, if not, I'll be ordering a sound card ASAP. (I'll eventually end up getting one no matter what, but I'm trying to figure out if my current priority should be an extra 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM, taking my system up to 8... Or a sound card... Any suggestions would be nice.) :smilewink:

Since I got my new gaming rig I've been trying ALL types of settings. I DO have to use D3DOverrider for Vsync... But I have played around with Triple Buffering in my Catalyst Control Center and on D3D... I haven't noticed a dang difference at all with or without Triple Buffering. I just settled on having it off about 3 days ago. I also turned VSync off for a while and tried to deal with the tearing... But with it off I never saw a jump in framerates. It's good to have conformation from your benchmarks. By the way, should I turn on Catalyst AI or leave it off? I thought I heard a mention that it could cause weird graphic anomolies and such if I left it on while playing BS.
-
Yeah, I would have torn every strand of hair out of my head. I took a peak at the campaign and mission editor.... It seems like an awesome and powerful tool... But it strikes me as SUPER thorough, which would lead to being VERY time consuming. Awesome job though, talk about fortitude.

Ahhh! I see now. Thanks for sharing some clarity with me now. I now understand almost exactly how the campaign works. So the campaign almost strikes me a semi-dynamic. The "triggers" seem like a REALLY cool addition to the game. Wags created the WHOLE Oil campaign??? That's just freaking epic...
-
WOW! The 500+ page flight manual didn't teach me about this. I suppose I should have read up on the GUI so I could wrap my head around all of this. One of my BIGGEST bummers about BS was the fact that there didn't seem that there was going to be anything like a dynamic campaign. Just static mission after static mission is what I expected. I am VERY happy now. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of defending. BTW Sobek, you've always been really prompt to answer all of my dumb questions. Thank you very much for being awesome. :D

So, I actually beat the deployment campaign tonight! WOO ME! The first thing I do is strap on my big boy panties and go straight to the Georgian Oil Campaign and am completely confused now. This is NOTHING like the Deployment campaign. First... It actually feels like a real war... Which completely scares the crap out of this Goat. Things are blowing up all around me and I lose my battlefield awareness VERY quickly... Thus I get my butt shot out of the sky a lot. Yet when I go and try the mission again... It is completely different! I thought this game did not have dynamic campaigns at all. Or did I actually beat these missions and die, so the mission goes on? Anyways, I was not aware that the battlefield would evolve as I went. So I'm blown away if this is the case. If I did beat those missions... I never saw the MISSION SUCCESS thingy. Second, now that there are actually target points instead of the yellow boxes I got during the Deployment campaign, I am confused again. Do these target points show up on my ABRIS? I thought I saw some numbers on the ABRIS, but maybe I am just absolutely losing it. Do I need to switch something on the map to view these target points? Etc? Wow ED... I expected the Oil Campaign to be a bit more tough... But I didn't expect dynamic missions and such a rich battlefield. COLOR ME IMPRESSED. Black Shark just blew my mind. Once again... Once I cut my teeth with some of these Oil missions, you'll find my pretty butt on your servers. :joystick: EDIT: I am a complete idiot and just realized that this should have been posted in the campaign sub section.... I apologize.
