  1. Hi all, I have the original release installed (after I uninstalled the beta). I never patched it because shortly after release the job got crazy busy. What is the correct method of patching all the way up to the current version. Do I have to download and install each interim patch? How do you confirm what version you currently have patched? I didn't see a version number on the splash screen, or on the options and other pages. I downloaded today the 1.2.2 (something) file but I didn't install it yet because I wanted to see what the correct sequence is first. Regards,
  2. Hi and thanks. I was basing my decision on a number of posts I read ont his forum that say, in a nutshell, if you try to run in 32-bit you will have a slide-show if there is anything at all going on in a mission. If this is true, I will hold off re-installing until I am in a position to move to a 64-bit OS. I don't want my hardware and OS limitations to diminish the enjoyment of the sim. I would rather wait. Also, there is at least one post on this forum that clearly states that the MINIMUM requirements for this sim are 64-bit OS. If this is not true, then this needs to be clarified by ED forthwith.
  3. Hi Nate. Thanks. I just noticed that the minimum requirements for the sim as of release are 64-bit OS. [pI had been running the betas on Win XP SP3 and was fairly happy, but to re-download everything when I know I will be under-spec is un-motivating, to say the least. So this will have to be mothballed for some time as I have a number of other games/sim/programs that aren't ready for 64-bit and I can't afford to drop all of them for AC10 WH. But I am still happy that I voted my money to ED for making this and BS and hopefully other sims. I'll probably have to build another PC just for 64-bit to run this sim at this point so that will put it off for a while as well.
  4. cant I patch from Beta 4? Or do I have to re-download the entire base install and then patch that?
  5. That's easy.... "Back-rubs" ;) :D
  6. [sarcasm on] Absolutely. Never, ever fly into, around or over anything that looks like it might be a potential battlefield. In addition, watch out for trees, houses, and grass-covered knolls as well. In fact, restrain your flight to within 1-2 clicks of the airbase and you should be fine.... [sarcasm off] But I agree about the using good tactics. If we had AI wingmen who could competently perform overwatch and understand a bounding overwatch, this would be much simplified. People tend to be less enthusiastic about shooting helo "A" when helo "B" is hovering and just waiting for them to show themselves.
  7. HA! Mower, I thought your first post above about mustering the performance was great - but this one tops the charts. Full rampstart indeed... *but*, do you need a starter-cart?:music_whistling:
  8. Hi nate, Thanks. I will leave the pre-compiled folder alone for now. Back to flying.
  9. Hi Nate, I want to add more details from what I experienced last night. The first mission I flew (Tranining Navigation) ran great with great FPS. I had to quit the mission when the sim would not recognize my L. Ctrl + "up" arrow to specify a new SPI on the HUD (HUD was SOI). I then flew the training mission for GUns and Rockets. Again, FPS was great and no graphic glitches. I rolled in on the first target for rockets. FPS dropped a bit when I fired Rockets (expected). But FPS took a huge hit when I actually hit the target with rockets. In fact, at about 1,500 ft, when I was about to pull off target, FPS dropped to 1-2 FPS and then to 0 FPS. I kept pressure on the stick and put throttles to max and hoped for the best. Betty was making herself well known. When FPS were restored to maybe 8-10 FPS, I was at 200 ft (roughly) and pulling off to the West. From that moment on FPS was reduced, but still flyable. I again took a FPS hit when firing at and hitting the Guns targeets, but not as drastic as the rockets reduction. Durnig landing, etc FPS was okay, but a bit jittery. I just eye-balled the landing. The next mission I few, FPS was reduced compared to the first mission from the moment I entered the sim. I also began to notice a few graphics glitches, etc. I took off and flew around a bit, but the FPS was definitely reduced and in the "F2" view I noticed some glitches with the sky around the A10. I then exited the mission, exited the sim, flushed the temp folders again per your instructions and restarted the sim. Once again the first mission had great FPS. I didn't have time to fly another series of missions. I have all of the graphics set to low, except scenes and textures ? which are medium. AA in the sim is set to 2. heat blur is off, civ traffic is off, and the bushes thing is off. I hope this helps to clarify what I am seeing.
  10. Hi Nate, Your suggestion worked a treat! I was able to fly a number of missions w/o a hitch. Thanks again.
  11. Hi Nate, I will try this tonight and report the effect. Thanks, SNAFU
  12. It looks quite a bit like that. I don't even get the little boxes. I also noticed for the first time last night when I did get in the air that in F2 view the sky around my A10 would flicker in square shapes, but only in the upper left quadrant. Then most of the A10 itself disappeared and I could see the cockpit, some weapons hard points and a few other things. Then is all vanished to much like what you posted above. Regarding overheating. Maybe. The case is open so there is plenty of air flow around the card. I have 4 Fans in the case and the room where I have the computer is never about 65 degrees F this time of year.
  13. Hi all, Thanks for the help and the explanation. I am pretty sure my drivers are all up to snuff - what really puzzled me was that I saw zero problems like this the first few days and I put quite a few hours on the sim. Now it is happening virtually everytime I try to fly in the sim. I am wondering if a file in the sim that get written to from time to time (or at exit)may have gotten corrupted?

  15. Hi all, Not sure where to post this. I have been flying the sim for about 4 days and I have been using TrackIR5 for the past 2. All was going well. Was able to fly training missions and some quick-build missions. However, today everytime I have tried to fly a mission, the sim loads and I see the cockpit and can look around for around 2-6 seconds, then the screen changes to show a screen where the bottom half is a water texture (brights blue, I can look down (from what appears to be a moderately high altitude and see the waves) and the top half is usually black. If the mission was to start from the runway, I can look around and see the smoke rising from factories which are suspended over the water terrain (which is always there, regardless of where the mission was supposed to start). But the sim is running in the back ground. I can listen to the training monolog, I can vary the engine inputs, etc. I can even hit ESC and then exit from the mission - but I have no cockpit or airplane to look at. Changes to the system between yesterday's running find and today's odd behavior? Absolutely nothing except I re-booted the computer once earlier today. Can someone offer a clue as to what is happening? Thanks, SNAFU
  16. Absolutely. I meant to mention that.
  17. I personally don't care if there is a 3D pilot represented, but I agree that having access to some clipboards/kneeboards would be great.
  18. 1) I am running with TIR5. On many of the training missions you start in the air with the AP on. I touch *nothing* and yet the A10 departs from level flight within 15-30 seconds of unpausing the training mission. Ithen spend time trying to re-establish level flight on course rather than paying attention to the training. What is causing the A10 to depart and auto-disengage that AP? 2) I often find in the training missions where you have to repeateldy use the LCTRL+ "Up" arrow on the key board that sometimes the sim will recognize that I have pressed the combination and sometimes it will not. I have tried both quick- clicking and holding the key down for a few seconds (which sometimes seems to help). But I have had to abandon training missions because I cannot proceed to the next step due to the sim not recongizing that I have pressed the indicated keys. Most often this happens with the aforesaid combination, but it has also happened with others. 3) I have yet to have the "\" key open the communications dialogs in any mission, training or otherwise. I believe I had set the radios correctly, or have verified that they are set correctly, but I never can open the comms. I must be missing something, but I cannot figure out what.
  19. My problem with switching to 64 bit is that I have many older simulations and hardware that I doubt will function properly until a 64-bit environment. Also a few old wargames that I would be loath to part with..
  20. Hi Nate: Thanks for the advice. I should have created a second partition before I installed XP Pro. Wish I had thought of that. The whole HDD is one big partition. I have to say that up until the FPS dropped, I was impress with a winter storm mission I was flying. Initially the FPS was fine, but as I approached the MLR it was too much for my system to model the clouds, snow and ground units at the same time.
  21. Hi all, I am looking for some advice re: a video card. I have a use DCS:BS and my system handles it fine. However, with DCS:A10 I am experiencing some low FPS when on a mission with lots of untis and or lots of heavy weather. I am not is a position for another 6 months to replace motherboard, OS and etc. Here are my system specs: Asus P5K-E based Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.4 GHz 2 Gigs of RAM New, fast main HDD with new XP Pro SP3 install. DCS:BS and A10 are installed onto the new, fast HDD Current Video card: NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS in PCIEX16_1 slot Question: Is their a Video card I can purchase that will improve my performance in DSC:A10 without having to change OS, motherboard, etc. Question 2. Would Switching to Windows 7 (32) be an advantage? Can I upgrade (having just spent much time rebuilding) or do I need to wipe and start over? Thanks in advance, SNAFU
  22. I was trying some ACM last night to get a feel for the A10 and I tried a Split-S and just a few seconds into the vertical I got warning tone and a flashing Master Caution. As I am still reading the manual, I wasn't sure if I was overspeeding the A/C, had over-stressed something else or if this was just normal. I will say that the Split-S came out well, although I was worried about something bad happening. I recall my first overspeed incident with the BlackShark. That didn't end well at all.
  23. I will have to try this. I hadn't even considered this as a valid maneuver with the A-10C as I wasn't sure it would respond well to a hammer head. Ah well, it will be a learning experience. Thanks for the idea!
  24. Amen to that. I still fly Falcon 4 a bit and you just can't be thinking about turning and power in the same way (shoot, in the same universe) as with the A-10C
  25. Hi all, I don't know if this is the correct place or not - but I just purchased this sim and I have been trying to download it for 4 hours. Regardless of the server I pick for any of the bin files, the servers each and severally time out after 6-15% of the download. I have tried one at a time, one from each server, etc. How does one improve upon this problem? Regards, SNAFU
