Wow thanks Adam! That’s a good idea, I will look into it, I did not know that. Thank you.. maybe could work for a stop gap. I did buy a head tracker, so I didn’t have to use the keyboard to look. That’s one improvement. I will look into voice attack. Can you believe they had a head track in stock and shipped quick, what a novel concept :doh wish ThrustMaster would get a clew. I work construction, when we have a lot of work, we work overtime :smilewink:

I looked into Virpil and if I’m reading everything correctly, buying a throttle and stick I would pay about $800 and then another $400 in import fee’s. So it looks like waiting for a hog is the only thing to do. It’s too bad the price gouging that’s going on right now. And please don’t say supply and demand, the only reason there is a high demand is people are stuck at home. If it wasn’t for this virus thing, I wouldn’t have even seen or started playing DCS. I won’t overpay for a ThrustMaster of any kind. It’s better if I stay focused on home remodeling projects, not as fun but keep me busy. I hate TV!

I use a Futaba 10 and a spectrum 11. I have considered using it, as I use that for sim practice for heli. But it’s just not the same as using a joy stick. I think we’re getting off point, me also. Thanks for the feedback, it is a real cool flight sim..

You are absolutely correct, with RC Helicopters. As a guy that can throw one around a bit. I can say with full confidence if you can’t do it with a blade 250 you can’t do it with a Goblin 700 so why spend the $3,000 to get a goblin 700 decked out. DCS is a little different, I can fly, land, dogfight, bomb targets. But I can’t stand using the keyboard to do most of the cockpit work. Example - you have 4 bandits approaching at 12 o’clock, you need to lock one up and get into the fight before they are on you, I have to scroll through using keys on the keyboard to get the planes locked, then select a weapon again on the keyboard etc.. by then I’m dead, falling from the sky. Because I looking down at keys and not on what I’m doing and what’s going on. Bottom line is I don’t enjoy this game having to use a keyboard. if I had to use a keyboard to fly RC I would probably not like it either.. thank you for the advice, I do appreciate your point of view.

It’s a good thought but a cheap stick is still going for Twice the price they went for a few months ago. A friend has a ThrustMaster T-flight (stick & throttle) he let me barrow while he was gone for a week. It was ok, better than what I have, but still some things about it that was not good. He uses it for space flight games, I don’t care for those. And paying for something I won’t be happy with is just a waste. Like the first response said, a month or so things will probably be different. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to buy the highest price hotas on the market, hell thats the problem, if I was willing to shell out $1,200 I could have a warthog this weekend. But I don’t want to buy stupidly. High or low quality. I was just looking for ideas for a good quality setup. I can fly right now, and because of the poor stick, I am not enjoying this great flight sim. I don’t think a different cheap stick will change that.

Just a old Logitech, I don’t even know what model. It does ok, just doesn’t have a throttle or any buttons. Like I said, I can fly, and it’s ok, but just ok is not good enough for me. So I started looking for a better setup, seems there is only a few choices, ThrustMaster, Virpil, VKB, Winwing. I’m sure you can make some of the others work. But why spend $200 when it still will be “just ok” buy quality from the start. I just came at a bad time, too many people stuck at home with Microsoft flight. I will just wait, maybe I will look in a few months. I was hopping to get some ideas here, something I didn’t see or know about. Thanks for the help!

Tell me about it, using a keyboard to control throttle, seems like I’m always behind the ball.. :( I’m hopping in a month I will be back flying RC. I’m more outdoor type. I guess I’m done. Too bad, it’s a great program, I was looking forward to getting on multiplayer. Looks killer!

I have been trying DCS for a while now, but I only have a crappy old flight stick. I can fly but it’s not that great. There are no ThrustMaster warthogs available, the ones overseas would take just as long if not longer to get. I like flying RC helicopters but with COVID I thought I would get back into flight sims. Problem is Microsoft came just at the wrong time for me, that program looked cool but when I saw DCS I said, now that’s for me. But it’s just been too hard without a proper Flight stick setup, I’m thinking of packing it in. I’ve been trying to buy a good stick, but I refuse to pay 1200 for something that sold for $450 or less a few months ago. Too bad I really liked this game. Advice anyone. To me it seems I need a good throttle with a stick, I just can’t land right, I can get the plane on the ground but not smooth, landing on a carrier even harder, refueling forget it.

I was in a F14 squad in the early 80’s out of Miramar, when not on a cruz they would send us to Fallon for live ordinance runs. Fallon should definitely be a base on this map, do some training stuff. Especially for the F14

New to DCS I’m new, a fresh rookie. Last time I did a sim was Advanced Tactical Fighters. Lost interest but picked it back up having to stay at home too much, TV sucks! Anyway I have only been flying a few weeks, and I have a garbage stick. Can find a good hotas. Been trying mid air refueling but can’t seem to get it yet. I like to blame it on the flight stick but then I try it again. I will get it soon, getting better at landing on the carrier. I won’t go on multiplayer until I get a little better, don’t want to embarrass myself.

I’m new to DCS so correct me if I’m wrong, there is a jettison button right above the brake, just select the station and push and the button. Bomb goes away. Right?
-
I’ve only been playing for 2 weeks now so everything is new. I’m getting it thanks to all the you tube vids. They are great:thumbup: I just thought that plane pulling in quick and backing up was funny. I pull off and go real slow, with my foot on the breaks. I need a better HOTAS but they are all sold out, Microsoft flight sim I guess. I keep working at it

I was practicing my landings and had to re-fuel, my wingman landed (AI F18) pulls in next to me does a turn around and then backed up. I was laughing, thinking how come I can’t back up

Perfect. Thanks all

Will the LSO give you a grade even though your hook is in the up position?
-
I didn’t fly I was an AME stationed out of Miramar SD back in the day when that was fighter town USA Advance Tactical Fighters was a flight sim mid 90s it was good but not as good as this

Let me start by saying I am new to DCS world. I use to fly advanced tactical fighters back in the 90’s but got away from that and started flying RC helicopters. Now with this COVID stuff I went back to see what I could find, in the flight sim area, and man flight sims have grown up. I love it! Ok now on to my question. I have the F18C and super carrier mods, I want to practice touch & go’s is there a way to set up a mission to allow me to do t&g and have the LSO grade my landings? I flew a “Mission Qualification-Supercarrier CASE 1 Recovery“ messed up and went around, next landing I was getting low on fuel so I landed, requested fuel but then it wouldn’t give me the option to take off, and the launch crew was just standing around starring like dummies (O that’s right they are dummies) anyway is there a way to create a mission to just do simple touch and go’s, to help me get landing better I was in the navy in the 80’s, did 2 cruises, West Pac & Med, pilots did T & G lots of times. I thought it was strange that it’s not in the carrier training??
