  1. Thanks for the tip! I'll keep it in mind. For now I'll have some fun with the WWII planes. Later on I'll get the channel map and maybe the Spitfire and Thunderbolt so plenty of stuff to do. If I get bored with the WWII planes I'll have a look at the F5. That'll open up an entirely new game.
  2. The engine management is fine after i learned it the hard way... I wasn't used to the fact that half throttle is sufficient.... Once you understand to watch those temp gauges, you're fine, not that difficult. Well... until you get into a heated dog fight that is... Anyway, I'm using VR so I see where the bullets hit the ground, the issue I have is that I don't have a clue on how to estimate this before I shoot. The trial/error technique is expensive on my bullet count. I assume you use the fixed gun sight on the gyro for ground targets and the other for A2A fights. I've done the training mission where they explain the gun sight and its mode but even then it's not that straight forward. For example if you set the wingspan and distance on the gyro, the target isn't static so you will only have a fraction of a second where the target is actually in the matching window where the gyro provides the accuracy. Or do you constantly keep your finger on the distance control and adjust all the time based upon your "estimated" distance to the target?
  3. Hi all... I'm new in the DCS world and enjoying it so far... I started playing it by accident to be honest... My 7 year old son is into VR so I was looking into some great VR experiences. Because I bought my VR gear for sim racing, I never thought about flight sims although I am an avid flight simmer, but with FSX and never thought about VR.... It's amazing to play this game in VR. Currently I'm using the rift but I pre ordered the HP reverb g2 and can't wait... The rift is just not enough. I can't read the numbers on the dials which is annoying... I've got a 2080ti and 10700k with 32GB Ram so I should be able to run DCS fine with the g2 but might have to lower some graphics settings... But at least I will be able to read the cockpit properly. One thing I'd like to understand is how complex the modern jets are? At the moment I'm focusing on the WWII planes. My first plane is the P51 Mustang as I also have the most experience with propeller planes in FSX (the A2A Cessna). So it didn't take me long to do a full cold start and do some circuit flying. I'm scared to venture in the dark hole of jets as they seem so complex. They seem amazing to fly but the jump from a WWII plane to a jet seems a bit to much for me to handle... I'm also very intrigued with the mission editor. I already created my own training missions for the P51 to do some air to ground practice and dog fight practice. I definitely want to go deeper into the tool and see what's possible. Plenty of stuff to do and so little time :)
  4. I recently started with DCS and got the P-51 Mustang as my first plane. Mainly because I have been flying propeller planes in P3D and FSX for hundreds of hours. Also I'm a bit scared by the complexity of the jets... Anyway, flying the plane is fairly straight forward. Don't have much issue in that respect because of my experience with propeller planes in flight sim. The issue I'm having now is the combat part... I started by creating my own mission with some target practice where I put a few stationary vehicles somewhere that I attack using unlimited ammo. I struggle getting some sort of accuracy in my shooting... It's difficult to see where my bullets will hit the ground. I did set my gun sight to fixed. Any tips or is it just a matter of practice, practice and more practice?
