Hi, I just finished the campaign and wanted to share my thoughts. I enjoyed the campaign and feel like I honed my Mi-8 skills, especially with using the navigation devices and the sling loads. This campaign seems to be the most robust one I've even played in terms of triggers working correctly. A few issues I did have: Almost all missions had some sort of crash with traffic aircraft or other oil-rig helicopters (such as the Mi-8 or Mi26). The helicopters would often collide with something labelled 'tyre' on the summary screen. Traffic at the airfield was sometimes dangerous, as I'd use the radio as told but sometimes another aircraft would come in to land regardless and potentially cause a crash. The mission where the auditor lands at the sub base had him crash in to another Mi-8 on the same spot. The Mi-8 was on the pad at the start of the mission but was hanging off the side of it rather than being central; I also think his engines were smoking. During the night search for the fishermen, my navigator said he saw them when I was nowhere near their location and in fact I was facing the other way. It would have been nice if he was more specific other than just mentioning the forest. I turned round and headed back up the river and noticed the fire regardless. I had trouble with mission 8 as it seemed some of the longer cargo would swing wildly in an unrealistic manner. I noticed there are some open bugs with sling loads in general and not necessarily unique to this campaign. On mission 15, I was transporting the second cargo when I was told to land immediately due to gearbox issues. Unfortunately, I broke the cargo on descent, which completely failed the mission. On my next attempt, the gearbox never failed and I finished both deliveries successfully and managed to land back at the airfield without issue and with all landing triggers working normally (score 100). Did I miss a trigger or was it only a low chance of the failure occurring? The gearbox is mentioned in the next mission which suggests that it was supposed to break previously. It would have been nice to have an option for dialogue, or at least directions to be repeated. Similarly there could have been more instructions at times, such as the last mission where you land at the helicopter and have to travel to the subbase - no directions are given. Luckily I was fairly familiar with the area at this point and found it myself. Thanks again for the campaign - I will happily consider buying any campaigns you make in the future!

Help with slingloading....
Dantagonistic replied to epolta's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I did Oilfield mission 8 last night and had similar issues with the logs. The barrels and fuel were ok, except the fuel started rotating really fast in a way that didn't seem physically possible. With the logs, I'd be flying nice and straight with no extra input and suddenly they'd just fly up high to one side. My sling loading skills aren't great and I was flying at 150, which is probably a bit too fast according to an above comment, but the swinging did seem kind of odd regardless. -
Just had a similar experience to this - I followed the north road from the large town but there are two north roads, with the one closer to 000 being incorrect - it seems the correct road is more like 340ish. Luckily I spotted the village with the mosque off to my left, but once I received further instruction there it felt a bit vague - clearing near the north edge of the forest. I was looking near the forest at the edge of the town then checked a nearby clearing. There are quite a few clearings in the forest in this area. I ended up checking someone else's playthrough on Youtube and they had the same problem! Otherwise I'm enjoying the campaign so far.

Memory of a Hero Review
Dantagonistic posted a topic in Mi-8MTV2 and Ka-50 Memory of a Hero Campaign
I've just completed the campaign and thought I'd share my thoughts. I'll have spoilers in here as I'll write a quick summary of each mission. Overall I really enjoyed the campaign! The dialogue and setup in the missions really help with the immersion, it doesn't just feel like I'm hitting a bunch of triggers. Music was really good, although it did play quite often, so by the end of the campaign I had heard the tracks many times; there was also a bug where sometimes more than one track would play at the same time. The variation of the missions was a real high point - I felt like you made the most of creating a campaign for two aircraft than can be deployed for very different roles; most missions were completely different from the previous one. I appreciate the English translations but sometimes the dialogue was hard to understand, and in some instances resulted in me not knowing exactly what to do next. Here is my feedback on the missions: 01 - Nice mission to test my takeoff and landing skills. I surprised myself and finished this first time without crashing! 02 - A good navigation skill test. I didn't even know the Mi-8 had the ability to track SOS signals so this was interesting. 03 - This mission was much easier than the previous two due to the weather, which makes me wonder why it wasn't the first mission - perhaps it was chronological. 04 - Great Ka50 mission, although my ABRIS was Russian as mentioned in another thread. 05 - I had a bit of trouble with this one as the Hinds emerged from behind the mountain quite close to me, which didn't give me enough time to shoot them both down before they could return fire. I also had an instance where I hit a Hind with 2 Vihkr (long burst as requested) and he carried on flying and shooting at me! I succeeded in the end by slowing down and hovering at the south side of the valley, giving myself a lot more distance and time to shoot them. 06 - Simple mission to introduce the secret device. I got slightly confused as I was told to follow the other chopper, so I didn't realise I needed to break away when near the airfield I was supposed to land at. 07 - Nice sneaky mission under the guise of a delivery. I already mentioned in another thread how I don't think the dialogue was clear and so I didn't realise there was a sling load to carry. 08 - This one was quite difficult due to the terrain and MANPADS. I also failed one attempt as I had ran out of time due to the enemy taking cover in the trees - but in reality they were still out in the open. 09 - I didn't realise I had to call in a strike on my first few attempts as I play in VR, so the message was shown near the top of the cockpit while I had my head down at the TV! This mission also highlights how dumb the AI soldiers are, as you start raining death down on them and they continue to just stand in place. The percentage of kills required also seems high - same for the previous mission. There was also not enough fuel for me on this mission - I ran out about 5km from the airfield on my return! 10 - I enjoyed this but again, the requirement to kill so many infantry units was difficult due to there being 1 or 2 of them left stood under a tree and therefore very hard to see. I was 'surprised' at the end but managed to save the pilot and the chopper, despite not really understanding how auto-rotation works! 11 - A nice convoy attack. The result of the final attack was amusing - luckily I had enough altitude! 12 - A fun idea but it took me multiple attempts due to collisions! There is a large power line just before the river when escaping the city - it'd be nice if the navigator warned about it in a similar way to the bridges - I failed one attempt because I hopped over it and exceeded the 40m limit. 13 - A good test of landing and taking off in the mountainous region. I had to skip this mission as I couldn't destroy enough targets with the rockets after a few attempts. The pilot says that he has 6 pods, but there are only 4. My aim isn't great but it seems the rockets have a small blast radius and barely do any damage with near-hits. 14 - Similar to mission 13 and the same problem - I couldn't kill enough targets with the rockets I had and so I skipped the mission. 15 - Great strike mission with the KA50 - I'm much more comfortable with the guided weapons! My wing man crashed in to a hill when trying to line up in the target area before he actually shot anything, although I doubt that's something you can fix. 16 - Interesting scenario, although it seems like it should be setting up further missions. My ABRIS was in Russian again, probably similar reasons to mission 4. I declined when requested to attack the jammer due to fuel being low (I had actually jettisoned my rockets before the request to reduce fuel usage), but the dialogue continued as though I had accepted the request. I continued to fly and land at Skala and got 100% mission complete in the summary screen. Both aircraft in the lead flight crashed when descending to land at Skala. Hopefully that feedback is useful. I'll be sure to pick up your Crew campaign at some point, although I have Oilfield campaign to complete first! -
I left a Big Show review on Steam to hopefully help out a bit. I think the Steam page does a terrible job at communicating what is required for the campaign to work. There is a big purple box that says you need base DCS, but there is no mention of the Spitfire or Normandy modules until your smaller description. Perhaps the store doesn't support 'DLC for DLC' so to speak as is the situation with the campaigns (I noticed most campaigns have the same review problem for the same reason). Perhaps ED can sort something with Valve to make it much clearer.

Thanks for the Campaign

I completed the campaign over a month ago I think so it was before the recent DM changes. It could have been a mistake on my behalf getting hit by flak but it's not relevant now if it has changed dramatically. I read about the taxi and map quality bugs before I got stuck in so they weren't a real issue. I just remembered I also liked the radio transmission you receive while doing a radar calibration flight on the way to France - a nice surprise! It was also nice to feel like part of a flight rather than having to be a superhero and shoot down everything myself - there was great satisfaction just getting back to England and landing safely (even if this didn't happen all the time!) -
I finished the campaign recently and just wanted to say I enjoyed it. I was inclined to buy the campaign due to your activity on this forum and response to feedback. I hit a few issues during the campaign but it seems most of it is out of your control as discussed with others: Wingmen like to crash in to you on taxi Some missions take part over low detail area of the map Enemies seem to get utterly trounced - even when in superior numbers, this leads to friendlies often dog-piling enemies. There were a few times where I was lining up my shots when I started seeing tracer fly past me as a squadmate takes the kill! I had to retry the last mission several times due to fatal flak damage on the way to the target area. I climbed to the recommended altitude and constantly changed my course but even so, I kept receiving direct hits. Some fun moments though, especially getting mixed up in the chaotic air battles and putting my (limited) knowledge of the Spitfire to the test. It'd be nice if we got a DCS Tempest and we could play out the rest of Clostermann's war experience!

Mission 7 – no trigger at WP3

Thanks. I'm enjoying the campaign so far and it is good to see you on the forum responding to feedback - it was a big plus for buying the campaign. -
Mission 7 – no trigger at WP3
Dantagonistic replied to SnapRoll's topic in Mi-8MTV2 and Ka-50 Memory of a Hero Campaign
Hello, I just played this mission and experienced the same confusion. I was told to land on the roof and managed to do so, I was then told that the package was received and I was good to take off, then to make sure not to exceed the velocity limits. I flew back to the factory and landed but nothing happened. I checked the F10 map and realised there was a sling load back in the mountains that I assume I needed to pick up. I don't think getting a sling load is clear as there is no mention of it in the dialogue - I just assumed the cargo was 'loaded' in the cargo hold in the back.
