JUst so you know I am not totally out of the loop. VIDIA GeForce GTX 460 becomes everyone's favorite midrange graphics card By Vlad Savov posted Jul 12th 2010 3:03AM It's rare to come across a universally lauded product nowadays, but NVIDIA's fresh new GTX 460 is just that sort of exceptional creation. Contrary to its GTX 465 elder brother, the 460 isn't a chopped-down top-tier part and is instead built on the new GF104 core. This smaller core, designed from the start to perform humbler functions, has ameliorated the famed power inefficiency that has been a Fermi signature so far, and has resulted in AnandTech describing the new card as "the $200 king." You'll get 768MB of onboard RAM at that point, but we'd splurge an extra $30 to make that a round gigabyte and enjoy some extra L2 cache and ROPs on the card. Either way, the GTX 460 seems to have completely killed off the market for the 465 and is stepping all over ATI's toes with its competitive pricing and, for once, decent heat and power metrics. Oh, and apparently it "overclocks like a monster" too -:book:

Yes as cards go it is somewhat old but still a performer none the less. Yes ATI has in recent years run cooler cards. That still is not saying Nvidia is not a good card. Lots depend on system and of course price.Nvidia has always been the leader in the driver issue ring and with new Os's etc coming fast and furious is a nice plus. ATI in stats is most likely in the lead at the moment. However with DX11,surround sound and 3D,etc., the battle between ATI and Nvidia is going to be interesting. My systems are built not bought out of the box. I have a local company that know my needs and matches the performance I need. This is a new system and although the card may be old it will do the trick for now. When it is time to leap they will let me know its time to change. Sure I can do a little better but why spend bucks when the leap is not that great. When it comes time I will upgrade it. The rest of they system is able to take the next generation of GPU's. The main point is not me but the person who requires sound information and suggestions. He has picked his card but(ATI). As was stated based on his system, the PSU is more important at this time than the GPU, unless he can manage the two at the same time. This is sound advice. Even you have explained quite nicely the reason a PSU is very important. This is his priority right now, not to jump at a GPU with a less then stelar PSU to support it. The info he needs right now is the brand name of a good solid PSU. It is not all about wattage either but quality. Some 1000watt PSU are less stelar than some 550 or 600 watt "quality" products. I will be asking my computer shop for some recommended PSU's and pass along that info.

Well not exactly I am running an asus 9600 gt oc. I had an Ati card borrowed and for the life of me I can't remember the number but it ran a lot hotter than the 9600. I will have to look at the ATI cards again when time comes but right now I don't need to replace this one. I did run a GPU cooler with the ATI card both borrowed and I think it was their offering after they came out with the x1900 series but which one I would have to ask the guys that built this one as they gave me one of theirs while waiting for this one. Not a wise move, it was already stated the importance of a good quility PSU and 300 watts does not cut it.

you should have a good PSU around 500 to 800 watts and a good quality one at that. It takes power to run your hardware and you should have plenty of it. Helps keep things cool also.:smilewink:

Flies Tomcatz mods, no problem. System is not borked, works just fine. there is just something with gys mod that I need to find. I have some other mods installed as well and they all work perfect. Sying system is borked is a little radical. May I have a setting wrong, yes quite possible. Is it the way gys mod is built, that is possible too. gys was also tried on windows 7 with no compatibility and no administer rights and with admin. rights. It is just some small thing that is causing this and not a borked system. If that were the case lots of stuff I have would not work. Everything does work and gys will eventually work to when this little hic up is found. Thanks for your input, I will trace this down but I am not worried about the system.:smartass:

Just a note: I do believe the ATI cards run hotter than Nvidia. So if 5670 is your card of choice make sure you have good ventilation in you case and on your PSU. You may have to get a GPU cooler or install larger case fans. Anyway just thought I would mention it just in case. I had an ATI card a while back and had to cool it down. Went back to Nvidia. Newer ATI cards may not suffer the same fate but my personal choice is Nvidia. Hope things get sorted out for you.:thumbup:

Well this is a new system so I don't think formatting would solve anything other than make work reloading. This will be a last effort or I just may stick with stock F-15C everything runs well. I uninstalled LOFC from the system including the registry and removed all starforce drivers by manual registry deletion including all its legacy drivers. I then loaded my original cd Lockon Modern Air Combat with no patch, installed FC2(cd) and installed the patch. I loaded it in Program Files (x86) and I had the cockpit problem, I then uninstalled FC2 and put it in C:\, folder name is C:\lockon Flaming Cliffs 2.0. Still have texture problem with the gys f-15C. I am now also running with admin. rights and compatibility for windows vysta. Still have problem:cry:.

Installed with modman7.2, tried both leaving the check box for install textures in CDDS file and unchecked. Tried the LOFC2 Pack and the single F-15C mod. Blaze sent me a file for canopy tried that and did not work. Tried mod for no scratch canopy, made no difference. Manual installed the files for the canopy and still no texture. In one of the threads hear, I think the one on graphics shimmer, anyway there is a recent thread with all my settings. I am quite used to game and graphics settings so I don't think that is an issue. The issue I did have was because I could not fine tune the Nvidia settings without Nhancer once that was done my graphics are perfect. I am using windows 7x64, with an I7-930 cpu. This system is new and built to take what Lockon and DCS-BS can throw at it. Right now I have the settings for game at medium but I have had them on high and I have no problem with game settings on high. The only setting I never set higher was water, left that at normal and no cockpit mirror. I would not think a modman 7.1 or a 7.2 install would make any difference however anything is possible. All other textures etc. with the mod work perfect , just no canopy texture. Hope this answers your questions and maybe help with an answer to the problem. Thanks for replying.:thumbup:

Is anyone using this mod. If so how did you get the canopy glass to show. Or did you not have that problem. If anyone can be of help would be appreciated. I have tried lots of things but none seem to work. Can't seem to locate problem. thank:doh:

Did not work. No texture in F2 view and in F1 view you see the actual texture. Unable to see through it. Goes from light gray looking out left to med gray view at top to just a shade darker than top view for the right in cockpit view. You can't see through this. Straight out the cockpit is fine because it is not part of the canopy.:helpsmilie:

Ok, found them and deleted them. Now if you can help with this one. I have no contact with control tower. Using key commands for request to start engines etc. I get no reply. Have I messed up something in my trials to learn how to change and edit missions? would you suggest a re-install and how would that effect my activations and deactivations. Sorry for being a pain but I did not have DCS-BS so this is all new to me now and I am making mistakes. Learning though but have to ask for help now and again.lol.:D

I am using windows 7x64 and lockonfiles fc2 is in the C:\lockon Fc2.0. there is no virtualstore that I can find? I will look again but can't find that file name.:(

Ok , I made a copy of the F-15 ramp start.miz , renamed it F-15 test miz. I then made some modifications to get used to things. did copies of that miz and will not show even if I make a folder and drop them in. Now for the fun part. I said hell let me start from scratch again as I was not getting a few things and my ability to talk to tower is porked don't ask me why. I had it and now I don't not even for the original ramp start .miz. So I deleted everything that I had done. Nothing shows, till I start the mission menu and there it is my F-15 test.miz. What have I done and where do I go to get this all deleted. Looked in BS folder and others and I can't find it but it is there somewhere. It's valid as I can fly it. So where is it. Please send help.:helpsmilie:

Yup, that's the place. The only problem is it does not tell you l/r Alt,l/r ctl. etc. You have to put them in the way the game is set up and they specify left or right Alt, Ctl etc. If you use just Alt or Ctl etc then the command will not work. If you go into the commands in the menu screen you will see the right key assignments. Hope this helps.:)

Well your system would be ok with everything set to med. etc as mentioned. I myself have a problem with gys f15. I have no canopy texture at all but everything else works. Can;t find that bug yet. I would suspect that it may be a setting issue. Only a bit of trial and error can confirm whether or not Nhancer can over come your issue. With 850 watts you should be perfect providing it is kept cool but you would have more problems than just these, so I would assume the PSU is ok as well. After trying a few tweaks with Nhancer, if no luck, I think I would turn next to the Nvidia drivers. You may have to go back and get an older version. This has been mentioned here a few times. Lets see if anyone else has a few more ideas but I would try these two first before trying anything else. Even if it just eliminates them as problem areas helps in zeroing in on problem. Well I can't get gys F-15 c canopy glass to show. Tried the pack and the standalone version and both same. Stock F15 is ok. Tried the two downloads for canopy and still did not work. Any more ideas? would love to get gys f15 working.:cry:

This simulation is certainly CPU heavy but your GPU is also a factor as is your power supply to run all this. FC2.0 runs better under windows 7. It may not be just your CPU but everything related to power. How fast is your CPU? If it is around 2.2 it may have a problem with FC2 under windows xp. If 2.8 or above, it should be fine. I don't know much about AMD. I always use Intel at or above 2.8ghz. Your graphics card would appear to be reasonable. Your power supply should be a good quality 550 watt or higher. This is sometimes overlooked. You have to look at your whole system. Your Ram is at max with 4gb ddr2. If you have all the latest drivers for everything plus Nhancer, you should be able to play FC2. Check your screen resolution and game resolution. Set everything to Med. under options. Use all planar, water at normal. In other words get everything down to Med. settings and see what happens. Check forum for windows xp sp3 and see if there are any issues. Look at min. and max requirements for FC2 and see where your system falls. At the moment and with the info given this is the best I can do for you until you give more info on your system specs. Make no mistake though, this game is CPU demanding. Cheers . Keep posting info.
