  1. If you look at the statistics in Korea, both sides reported something like 4 times as many aircraft shot down as the other side lost in total. I think it has more to do with human nature than any political realities. While I agree that most aircraft are shot down by relatively unsophisticated weapons from the ground (especially in US conflicts after Vietnam), I think it has a lot to do with the fact most aircraft are facing far more of those weapons than hostile fighters. You don't need infrastructure, skilled personnel, or much in the way of resources to field MANPADS.
  2. Eh, I would take combat statistics with a healthy grain of salt. Russia and the US both claim their fighter (MiG-21 vs F-4) came out ahead in Vietnam, and the truth is probably somewhere near the middle. Similar to the Mig-15 vs. F-86, and even RAND estimates in Korea the F-86 had an overall 1.8:1 ratio against the MiG-15, far below the official 10:1 ratio given by the USAF. And I would expect some of the F-4 "groundfire" losses to really be from enemy aircraft. To what degree is the question.
  3. I never paid attention to these doors on MiG-21's before, but after watching a number of videos of 21s on the ground, it looks like the door position on your excellent model has a bug. From the videos, the purpose of the doors seems to be to allow sufficient airflow into the engine in conditions when ram air pressure into the main intake is low. The doors seem to follow these basic rules: 1. If the engine is off, the doors are closed. 2. If the engine is on, and the plane is not moving, the doors are open. 3. If the engine is on, and the plane is moving quickly, the doors are closed. If you looks at the following pictures of 21s, you can see the door position in shutdown 21s, as well as 21s that are taxiing: http://www.hottail.nl/airforces/czech/Mig-21.html
  4. I used to not like the blue Russian pits, but they have grown on me. As far as pits go, the F-106 has got to be near the bottom. Visibility, anyone?
  5. I agree about ROF. The FM and DM both seem really good, and looking down iron sights to shoot makes combat a bit of a challenge. The aircraft are fragile and anemic compared to WWII fighters. The sound and graphics are both excellent. COD will hopefully improve greatly with the new patch, when it is released. I may change my opinion at that time. EDIT: Plus, you can try ROF for free!
