  1. Agree with that. More a reply that he can overclock his CPU easily with that RAM by pushing up the FSB without having to play around with FSB/DRAM ratios etc as it's rated for 400 MHz. Should be easy to go from 3.16 up to at least 3.5. Botch.
  2. That RAM should overclock. Just make sure your temps are ok and the system is stable. If not sure, google is your friend as there are lots of guides our there. I'm also running PC2-6400 and without much effort got it to 3.7 - I also have an aftermarket cooler (noise more than temps). I have a few settings on high, low water, no mirrors, no heat blur etc and usually get around the mid 40s with it dipping down into low 30's (or even low 20's) with lots of trees/buildings. TGP & MAV displays can also cause a FPS hit. But still very playable rates. Then start saving for that TrackIR5. It takes the game to the next level of playability and like hassata, once you have it - it is essential. :) Botch
  3. My system is fairly similar and the game runs ok at medium-ish settings. Very playable but not brilliant frame rates. Try to give the CPU a small overclock if you can (if you have a decent cooler & RAM you should be able to get 3.5 without much effort) but going from a 5770 to 6950 2GB card gave me a noticable FPS increase. That is what I would do first. Would not up the RAM if you are planning a system upgrade next year (unless you can get good quality RAM at a nice price). At least the GPU is a bit longer term solution. Digitec has that card for 229 CHF. Botch
  4. If anyone is interested, the program for the Zigermeet Mollis airshow is including an A-10 Thunderbolt this year. http://www.zigermeet.ch/programm/index.php This is a great little airport for airshows as you stand on the service road right next to the runway with mountains around you. Bring those earplugs. Just upset that the wife organised a trip to Italy this weekend so I can not go. :( Cheers.
  5. I have almost the same spec and have that upgrade itch. I would recommend a SSD as it just makes everything feel snappier in Win (and help map load times etc). A 128MB is fine for my system. One thing that really slows the frame rates down for me is when I do a low pass over tanks/vehicles etc. I'm probably going for a HD6950 as the next thing. I do not have enought $$$ for a new CPU, MB, RAM & OS at the moment. Also waiting for Sandybridge issues to be sorted out before I think about a new MB. Plus think a high end graphics card can be reused if I upgrade the whole system at the end of the year. Botch...
  6. See it in BIOS when you do a post?
  7. Haven't had any time to mess around with changing the angles and away on work all this week. But I did notice that if you release the brakes gently, they generally go back to a 0(ish) or about that position. Just dropping your foot off them can result in the brake signal not going to a min position. Botch...
  8. I just have the pinky switch set as a modifier and use the pinky with DMS up / down for slow zoom in / slow zoom out. Works perfectly for me and no hands off the :joystick:. Botch...
  9. Mine showed up this morning so plugged them in before I left for work. Brakes also do not seem to zero out but stay about 15-20% in-game. Only had 15 or 20 minutes to play around with it but looks like I have the same issue. Just put a big deadzone to get around it but a bit disappointing. Otherwise the pedal are great in terms of foot and brake position. Will check it out more tonight. Will change the angle of the brakes and see if that makes any difference. Botch...
  10. What's the rest of your spec? OC'ed CPU, other cards, how manys HD's and other devices etc? A top end cards may be bottlenecked anyway if you have an older CPU at stock speeds. The idea is to make a balanced system. And what brand and model power supply do you have installed? Can you see what the ratings (Watts) for each of the voltages rails are. They are on the label on the side of the supply. Going latest and greatest GPU and a 550W supply could easily be getting close to limits depending on PS quality and how it supplies the voltage rails. Instability if you are sorta unlucky - white smoke it not. IF you go that path, get a new power supply! Anandtech has some interesting comsumption data for basic system (check "The Test" page to see their HW config) that show total load consumptions for the latest gen GPU's: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/24 If you look at thier older 8800GTX test (different HW config though) you can get an idea of the extra power consumption. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2175/7 Take all of this with a grain of salt as reports are a few years apart so different setups and done on a bench setup etc. but the basic consumption figures would not be that far off. Some older cards were beasts for heat and power consumption. I'm running my spec on a Corsair 550W and max power consumption is well under 300W (from my middle-age memory) measured at the socket with an energy meter. Thinking about efficiency factor of the PS etc, I have still a fair bit of headroom left. System is very stable (touch wood). Recon I could upgrade to HD6950. Do you have to 100% get a new power supply? Er, depends. A new card down on the lower end of the scale should be ok. A GTX480....hmmmm. Seeing you don't want to break the bank, I would put my engineering education to the test and "guesstimate" the consumption. If you do get a new card and experience an unstable system, power supply would be naturally one of the first things I would be pointing the finger at. Botch....
  11. Same justification here......well it is how I'm going to explain another box showing up with the postman. ;)
  12. I've attached the psd file that I found for the grid. Is useful for making background images. This is what I have done so far on the main page I use. I also have a CDU page but do not use it that often, only for creating flight plans usually. I have a copy of your buttons/icons and do plan do try to do a more "as installed" layout and backgounds in the future. It was a sort of proof of concept to see if I could do a ramp start without touching the mouse (what? in a game with a fully clickable cockpit :music_whistling:). The only main thing I couldn't do was the Standby Altitude Indicator. For some reason when you map a dial function in DCS, one click results in a big jump. Found this out when I mapped the HSI course and heading dials and just clicking once sends them spinning. Otherwise everything is functioning ok. I did notice that any mapping using the "Alt" key also can result in a "Ctrl" being sent after for some strange reason. I think its the KPServer. So I'm very careful now about what I map with this. I made a spreadsheet with most of the mappings to keep track of everything. The "Train" settings for the laser/master weapon and PAC do not work but that is a Beta thing. Same with IFFCC Off. Using Menu style buttons for the AAP works very well. I'm going to do some more mods and put in several menu buttons for commands that are only occasionally required. I've been testing a bit in-game and have not had any major issues. I know that using KPServer + AutoHotKey are a bit of a workaround until something better shows up, but it's ok for now. It is still a work in progress, hence the funky colours but I have other ideas on how to neaten it up. Botch... keyprobackgroundgrid.zip
  13. I just used the default icons in KeyPadPro (numbers and arrows). I added the text for each button as a caption. One note, if you have a single character it is not shown so you have to enter "A" as "space A space" for it to be displayed in the button. They are a bit small. I did try with large characters on the background but the button hides them (are displayed when you press them though). A button with no colour fill would be a great enhancement. The background is just a black 1024x768 jpg with a green rectangle where the screen should be. There is a photoshop file that I found with the grid for the buttons. This is the current one I'm working on, the UFC: A bit blurry but I have used a black background and white text in photoshop to mark it up. Need to move a couple buttons and now just have to think about all the key mappings. Think I will add other functions on the bottom of this page. Need to look through the control list to see what uses the left ctrl/alt/shift modifiers. I have only played a couple of missions for basic testing and apart from several buttons not working as mentioned above, it seems stable. I did get some crazies last night when I was doing right ctrl/shift commands - keyboard was in a strange state. Think modifying the AutoHotKeys fixed it. Need to keep working on them and doing some in-game testing. Botch...
  14. Finally had a bit of time to play around with it. Made my own layout in a horizontal format instead of the vertical one that Ghost kindly made (Cheers for all the work  - really appreciate it). Used his in-game keymappings also but changed several around as I'm using a Swiss German keyboard so just want to use standard keys and avoid special & control characters. But I do have to clean all this up as I also want to create a UFC profile. Think I will unmap all the standard hotas commands as I'm using a warthog and don't need keys for this. Did try with ASCII codes but think that is not functioning correctly. Mapping is not always 100%. Most keys are working with the exception of the +, -, PG Up, PG, Down & Steer. Is possible to setup in the options-control menus but do not work in-game. Could be a beta 4 issue. Just have to make sure all components are running with Admin permission (Win7). I did add a couple extra settings to AutoHotKey to map right Ctrl, Shift to right Ctrl & Shift. Right Alt mapping does not seem to work. Otherwise keyboard mappings using the right command keys did not work (I think that was happening - it was late a night). Layout is like this (sorry for the average picture but you get the idea). Want to update the background with some borders and headings.: Works well with MFD's but I have to get use to some of the key inputs. Creating a new flightplan etc is much faster now and switching between CDU screens works great. Overall setup: Still a work in progress. Thanks for all the work everyone has done on this. Botch...
  15. Some nice work being done there. The only thing I could think of is to use normally ignored ASCII codes in KeyPadPro (not mapped to anything in A-10) for generating keystrokes and use a macro tool to convert them to function codes for A-10 to control the CDU / UFC. I've never used HIDMarco apart from a quick test the other day. You can do things like Modifier + key I believe (ie. Left Control + 1 would be <^1). Have a look in the help and make sure you have V2.0 Beta. The only strange issue I can see is the that server for KeyPadPro is not really detected as an input device. That is a bit dodgy. Keen to see where this one goes. Edit: or edit the lua files for these controls and use the ASCII codes directly. No idea if that would be possible. Botch...
  16. This looks interesting. Tired it with the free version and the default screen would control all the F1 etc keys for views etc. Then started up HIDmacros and it was detected.....as a Warthog stick ????? Very strange. But I could assign macros to it that functioned ingame. (Wonder if something like autokeys would also work). But how to make it map the UFC commands in HIDMacro? Botch..
  17. Has anyone tried the latest Version (4.1.038 beta 03) posted on the 17 Dec on the NaturalPoint website? http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/support-download-software-and-manuals.html Just saw it and the changelist for this version is: Changes Added support for 64-bit TrackIR Enhanced games Added Slovenian language translation Fixed netKar PRO loading incorrect profile I'm running V5 with a TrackIR5 and TrackClip Pro. What are the differences between V4 and V5? Botch...
  18. Updated (connected to MB USB ports). Now have these in Win7 Devices and Printers: Botch...
  19. I ordered mine on Sunday evening late and it showed up Wednesday early with the postman before I left for work. Lets say I was a bit late in that day. After a couple of hours flying I can say this thing leaves my old X52Pro for dead. The precision of the stick is brilliant, especially noticeable on landings were I used to all over the place with my old hotas. I will admit I didn't tune the curves on the X52 much but it has so much slop around the center position I was never really happy with it. The only think I have done is played around with the curves: - added a tiny deadband for the stick and a bit of curve - made a profile for the throttle so that I'm able to use the middle section of the travel much better. On a standard linear curve, I only seemed to use the last 10-30% of the travel when I wasn't going full. - Modified the slew curve as it was a bit slow - but it is too sensitive now. About the only thing that I'm not really impressed with is the slew control. Tiny little joystick that doesn't give much fidelity or feeling. The hotas just has a solid feeling about it and is a joy to fly with. A brilliant piece of kit. Botch...
  20. Yep, go into the control settings and click on the Modifiers button in the bottom left. In the dialog, you can add the paddle switch as a new modifier. Then you can use it as a modifier when assigning the view to the trimmer. Just tried with zoom in/out on the DMS and it works for me. Cheers, Botch...

  22. Was waiting for Christmas....but just saw the place with the best price I have seen in Switzerland has 15% off.....:music_whistling: Order is in and the best thing is they are showing in stock (was backorded until the 24th last night). Waiting game now. Happy Happy Joy Joy. Botch...
  23. Torrent is the way to go!!! Started on German FTP at ~250 then fired up torrent....1.8 MB/s. Downloaded in about 20 minutes. Nice. Shame I'm out of town for the next couple of days at a workshop. :( Botch...
  24. Much the same. Just trying out the odd system but really waiting for golden version before going all in. :) Botch
  25. Cheers, is always very interesting to see how people do their setups. They are actually Engine Stop's on T2 & T4 in M3 - but now you mention it I have to wonder about the wisdom of having them mapped. I usually flip straight out of Take Off (M3) mode into Flight (M2) as soon as I have set the flaps to normal. That way I get to LAAP. The Lables was just a test to see what they do. Actually haven't tried them yet. There has been a few ways of doing zooming....but actually the Start/Stop & Reset buttons work ok. A bit of a stretch with the thumb. Was thinking of trying the Rotaries, but mine are really stiff from never really being used. Thinking of moving a few things around already. Like having the China Hat on Fire D as it is more accessible. Planning on getting a TrackIR next month so the View will be removed from POV1 and DMS will be programmed into that position. How do you find using the POV3 with TMS & DMS in 2 different modes? Also the Coolie is in a different mode to TMS. Is it ok for switching MFCD's when you are trying to set up a Mav? Botch...
