Perhaps I've fixed this, most of the crashes were happening also post upgrading from 32GB of ram to 64GB. I saw in another post that perhaps I wouldn't need to manually set my page file amount, so I set it to be auto managed by Windows on all drives and I haven't had a crash since then.

I've been getting random freezes and black screens in the headset and DCS not even registering the crash. I've had to kill the program via Task Manager. Sometimes it never happens in a 2-4 hour session and other times I've had it freeze in less than an hour of flight. I'm not running any overclock on my CPU or ram and have tried turning off my GPU OC but had the same result. dcs.log dcs.log.old

MFCD visibility issue due to SRGB being enabled in 2.8
seven10 replied to ColinM9991's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
I'm running AMD driver 22.11.1 along with OpenXR set to a resolution of 2432x2382 with no motion reprojection -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
seven10 replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
Interesting, I never thought about that. So essentially start boosting settings until I see the uncapped frame rate average around 45? I tried reprojection and it looks terrible to me, I kept getting all that bubbling artifacting and OpenXR's FPS counter was saying I was never reaching above 38fps. -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
seven10 replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
I jumped up to a 5800X3D from a 5800X and in 2.8 there's no consistent noticeable improvement in smoothness, especially when looking side to side and flying low in a helo or something like the A-10 or Harrier. The OpenXR tools do say I'm hitting 58-65fps+ though even during those times, it just feels like little micro stutters though. Guess I'll be waiting to upgrade the GPU again. -
MFCD visibility issue due to SRGB being enabled in 2.8

I agree, whatever change happened with 2.8 has made the MFCD's a lot harder to read without leaning in while using VR. I'm currently running a G2 at 2432x2382 with no FSR or sharpening. -
At least on my system it does seem performance related with the use of the tpod after all and I can provide additional tracks if needed. If I run in on a target with the tpod displayed once I go to turn away I start getting the frame drop stutter around the point that masking begins. If I have the FLIR or DMT views up either designated or undesignated I do not ever get the stutter.
-
Perhaps you're right on that one, running the same mission and only using the velocity vector or dmt to acquire targets I never had any stutter like before. I'll have to do some more test and see if I can narrow down more when it happens.

Thanks @gcze I'll give that a go and report back.
-
Thanks @silverdevil PST would likely work for me, however I did find a squadron that I'm going to try and fly with now and see how things go.
-
Thanks fargo, understood and I would be ok with choosing a single airframe. I'm flexible in which that is though based on what a squad may need at this particular time.
-
@Mike Force Team I'm mainly looking for a unit that is operating as one of the US branches, thanks though.
-
I do have the Super Carrier and I have all the maps. I have the Spitfire and Thunderbolt, but I very rarely fly either and am not very versed in them.

Hey all, I'm looking to find a squadron to join that is training heavy and is mil-sim focused rather than casual as I would really like to get more training or mentorship. Ideally it would be a squadron that conducts training and operations in the evenings in the eastern timezone as I am usually not free from work and life responsibilities until after 8pm most days. A bit about myself, I'm kind of airframe agnostic and have experience with all of the US modern jets and helos. I don't know if I could pick one favorite, but in terms of DCS module knowledge of what I own or use I would rank my most well known to least like this A-10C II F/A-18C AH-64D F-16C UH-60L AV-8B F-14B UH-1 F-15C You can message me here or I'm on Guilded or still on Discord @ enhund#6256

I was able to capture a couple instances of the stutter on a basic training mission on NTTR with 10 enemy units. I couldn't upload the trk file here, but I put in my Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IDJbHdSD_njdFTpfBAgN1j6S_x_XMuao/view?usp=sharing I also clipped two sections of video from the mission:

I'll have to try SteamVR again, the issue with that was I had to run quite a bit lower resolution with less graphical options turned up. I'm trying to get a good video and track of what's happening as well.
-
Sorry if this has been reported before, but I couldn't find any previous reports of this. I'm not sure why, but the Harrier when flying in VR will go through 5-10 sec of complete slide show stutter every 5 minutes or so. I have not experienced anything remotely similar in the ED or Heatblur modules, so I'm not sure what's going on or what to test. My system specs are below and I'm currently using OpenXR with my G2 rather than SteamVR. I thought perhaps something was causing instability with my cpu and gpu overclocks, but even with those off I get the same behavior. If anyone can let me know what else I should look at or report for this I'd be grateful.

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

Gotcha, I thought I was missing a tool or feature that I was not aware of. -

seven10 replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
Ah, thanks for that. How can I measure frametime when using OpenXR? I've been getting that feeling the more I fly in a variety of modules or maps in VR. I don't see myself going back to 2d unless it's to get screenshots or record, so I'll just keep waiting on the upcoming next gen GPUs and CPUs and tweak what I can on my system until then. -

Thanks for all the input, I didn't realize shadows or global illumination were that big of a hit on performance. For clouds though, I have to agree with dburne that it's really tough to go back after seeing them in ultra in VR. I haven't noticed much of a performance change with them either no matter the quality setting. Yes, I have the XMP profile selected for my RAM in my bios and AMD SmartAccess Memory is enabled in the Radeon settings. -

OpenXR is definitely more smooth for me on my system than what I've been able to achieve with Steam even running both at the same resolution. However I'm still getting dips into the low 40's and high 30's even when trying to lock my GPU to 45fps when I'm at low altitudes or on the ground. I'm wondering what further I could do to perhaps tune that without ditching MSAA 2x (sorry the jaggies are too distracting without it and I can't run a high enough res to minimize them)? I'm forcing the headset to run at 2432x3282 and I'm not using FSR in OpenXR since it seems to be less clear than forcing a lower resolution, unless I'm doing something wrong. I have my GPU clocked to run to a max of 2400mHz with no vram overclock. My CPU is running at 4.5gHz and the ram is just running stock timings. Attached are my current display settings and any input is appreciated since flying in VR is addicting. -
That driver seems to have fixed the issue for now. I'm not getting the headset blackout anymore when opening the tools menu.

I can't figure it out still, but it has been happening consistently at least for the past few versions of the tool kit.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any info on it. Has anyone else had issues when launching the OpenXR Tool Kit in a mission and it turning off the headset? I used to have no problem opening the menu in mission, but now anytime I try to my G2 display goes black, but the mirrored display on my monitor still works. I tried launching the tool kit in safe mode and clearing the settings, but it still happens now.
