Had the F 16 a few days now on trial and seems great when you first set off on the training mission but I have noticed it many times now that after 5 mins or so it seems to start to lose power to the point that when you go to ground to avoid a missile sometimes its almost impossible to get back up. Have to make turns and come up very slowly to get back to hight. Surely at full thrust the f-16 should be happy to go vertical or very near. Alan

To anyone else struggling with radar on the F-16 viper this video by Growling sidewider is the best I have found. It cleared up a lot of issues for me and gave me contols that I need to map to my stick.

I am going to try AItrack with open track and a standard web cam. Seems to do the job on the videos I have seen. If not great I will go down the IR route.

I am going to get head tracking set up this week. I may be missing some of the buttons being explained in some of the videos. I had forgot that some may be further back than normal flying position shows. I am sure this will help me anyway. Its hard being new and want to do all the things that you experienced pilots do ! I will get there. I really love this sim already and the help has been great I would like to thank you all for responding. Alan

I have basics on my stick fire thrust, pause, flair. any other switches I toggle with the mouse in the cockpit. The training videos show the buttons being pressed in the cockpit but then say lock on but dont tell you what needs pressing. I have gone through the guides and will have to read more but its hard when being told something and having to go back 5 or more pages to see a picture of what they are talking about. I will have to do a screen shot of panel but even then its so hard to see the writing I will try some more reading and see how I go but will sign up to your discord and get hold of you when I am stuck again. Yes, I have had lots of help so far. I have the Thrustmaster stick X. basic but lots of buttons so I intend to use this until I know what I am doing. I dont intend to have more than 2 or 3 paid plane. Looking at the F16 I am using now if other planes need same level of operation I dont think I could remember more than 2 or 3 at best.

Hi all, I dont think this will just be me . I new to DCS and 4 days in to f16 trial. The inbuilt lessons are not good for a beginner. They assume you know a lot. take for example the amraam lesson on how to lock up 2 targets. tell you the buttons to press to get the target on the radar and then tells you to lock the target but fails to tell you how to do that. There are many instances of this throughout the lessons. They just assume you know it. I have the PDF that comes with it and guide but again they talk about a switch and to see it you have to go back numerous pages to look at a photo on which half the labels cant be read. The videos on youtube again are good but assume you know what they are talking about and you know where the button or switch is. are there any really basic guides for the F16 ? need to learn the radar, locking targets, switches for ECM and if they should be on all the time ? it would also help if the videos on youtube ect explained what the letters on a switch mean instead of just saying the letters. I am sometimes just pressing buttons and have know idea why I am doing it lol. Apart from that I am enjoying it all so far. If you know of well explained videos on youtube or other please can you post some links. Thanks Alan

Hi all, Im on the trial for the f-16 c and only have the other free aircraft and free terrain. is there any way I can make a mission with lots of targets who act defensively but do not fire on me ? I want to get some practice locking on with missiles and shooting with guns. I suspect I will end up buying the F16 as it seems good to fly but so much I need to learn. Thanks Alan

Hi all, I saw a video linked from youtube on here 2 days ago and now cant find it. it was by Grim Reaper who showed some software that you set up and it worked for almost all planes on DCS does anyone have a link to the original youtube video ? It had links in the description for the download. I can find his channel but looked for half an hour and has still only gone back 7 months and his videos go back years by the looks of it. even the embedded video on here would help as I could see the name to search for. Hi all, I have just activated the above trial, very new to this and only have the free aircraft. I accepted the free trial and it confirms I have x amount of days left but when I open DCS I can still only see the 2 free planes. How do I access the trial plane ? Thanks Alan

Thanks Have started using the training elements. I find the helicopters a lot easier to hit than the A10's. The jet does not seem that bad when your chasing things that cant go vertical on you. will get some more practice in and try and get another SSD in ASAP and then I can think about a proper fighter.

Thanks, Just been looking at cheap 2TB sata ssd on ebay. Will try and find some reviews. if they are what they say they are I will order one. Yes I only have one ssd and its 250mb, this holds my windows 10. can really clean up apart from remove 1 game and not sure who big that is.

Can it be run across 2 SSD ?

I have tried it but really have no idea how to navigate at this point. will have to have a look on youtube and see can I get some pointers.. I have tried the ground attack mode but all you see is smoke so I have no idea what I am firing it. it like know where a dart board is and then putting a blind fold on to hit double top !

Yes, its the preset dog fight I am using against the 2 A10's. You cannot hit them with a missile as they approach you as it just shoots past them and they climb so I turn and try to catch them from the rear. This is were the stalls happen. I can do a slow turn and climb but then they have vanished and I spend 10 mins looking for them. Missiles see ineffective. Im firing for 4 to 6 miles. fired 4 at 1 plane and not hit ! I have a wired internet connection and its 60 -70MB so not a problem with any lag. I just find it hard to keep interest with this plane as I am constantly out trying to catch planes which can just climb and leave me to stall. Thanks Alan

Hi all, Looks like I have vastly underestimated what is needed to play this sim. after downloading the game I only have around 100mb let on my ssd. I can remove the 2 free planes to another hard drive but not sure how much space that will get me back. Is there a competitive Jet that I can use that is not going to stall in dogfights like the free one does but is a small file size ? SSD's are not cheap and I see some jets are 1500MB. I want to dog fight but putting in a massive SSD for 1 plane is expensive.

I have only been using the practice dog fight. only managed to shoot the 2 A10's down once. as soon As I am about to lock them up I end up stalling lol

Only been on here 2 days. I am trying to get a start with the free Russian Jet and have some questions Is this jet under powered ? I keep getting stalls and having to pull back on the stick to keep level flight, sometimes it not too bad sometimes if nose dives to the ground Is there any radar on this jet ? have to manually look for targets which can be hard if you pass them without noticing. The only way I can see the hud is by moving right forward, my eyes are not bad and in this position you cannot see any other instruments. Is it the same in other aircraft or just this one. I have not flown for some time but have flown real aircraft (Gliders and microlights)and MS sim 98 and was pretty good with it. Just looking for advice ? Just spent all my money on a new PC cable of running this so funds are short for buying other aircraft Thanks Alan
