  1. My suggestion is to have one computer running Windows for games, mods, cat photos, etc... Another computer running a modern OS like BSD/Linux if security is important. I realize this setup isn't possible for everyone, but IMHO a proprietary OS and security are mutually exclusive.
  2. The problem is unoptimized code. Even at hundreds of fps if vram is not managed properly you'll start swapping to disk and any system will then stutter. When this is happening, task manager shows "GPU Copy" and your disk IO gets saturated.
  3. I don't have evidence to share but feel I have similar problems as OP where the game performance degrades with time, only to be solved by a complete reinstall.
  4. Thanks, I'll be looking to upgrade my HOTAS later this year. This was helpful to know.
  5. Yes, mistakes happen both in DCS and in real life. Yes, you can land on a taxiway if the runways are destroyed and/or blocked and there's no other choice. The discussion moving to trivial edge cases suggests we have consensus on what is a taxiway vs runway
  6. Yes I can in the Hornet but I use the "attitude hold" setting on the autopilot. Does that still count?
  7. What I'd like to know (if you would like to elaborate of course) is if they would have done the same if you didn't voice your concerns publicly on this forum. In any case, happy to hear they're standing behind their product and have fixed the problem.
  8. Yes indeed, some attitudes are puzzling. I feel the same. Dude, how many not so subtle hints do you need to rethink your choice of words? You‘re not entitled to judge or dictate how others play the game. Don’t like it? Leave or don’t join. I also happen to know a lot of swear words, and a few come to my mind when I read your entitled posts, but I can hold back (barely). One hour after the boss jumps in, you find yourself barely holding back from swearing at the so called entitled posts that you yourself quoted above and said you agree with. Let's cut out the hyperbole and get back on topic. Expecting people not to use a taxiway as a runway is a reasonable request. Everyone is entitled to judge this behaviour as they see fit; however, the forum rules restrict the word choice in expressing this opinion and I respect this rule.
  9. #1 Taking off from a runway instead of a taxiway is not an "arbitrary procedure" #2 A taxiway is not a "perfectly capable" runway
  10. Having keybinds for the menu options would also be great. Some of them already have it like Request launch, salute, hornet ball, rearm menu...
  11. Thank you @JohnDoe79 I can confirm that following your tips above, I was able to disable both my T16000 throttle and stick and then my monitor entered sleep mode as desired. In case this helps anyone else, the OEMNames corresponding to my particular throttle and stick are, respectively, "TWCS Throttle" and "T.16000M". As per the above, I simply changed line 12 to replace "*HOTAS Warthog" with the OEMName of my devices and it worked perfectly. Now searching for a way to have Windows automatically run the scripts before launching and after closing DCS.exe
  12. Oh the horror! After having already consumed my time, bank account, RAM, CPU, SSD & GPU you're telling me DCS is still hungry for more?
  13. Thanks for the response @LucShep. It's not the size of the pagefile I'm concerned about. It's the fact that RAM is much faster than virtual memory and I would rather my computer use the faster one when available. If DCS is the "very old program that needs minimum 800MB pagefile" then I guess this is a moot point. In any case, I hope to do some testing in the next little while on my system and report the results to all in the hopes of unravelling this mystery...
  14. Curious to know why the consensus seems to be that no matter how much physical RAM is installed, that a pagefile/virtual memory/swap is still necessary? Perhaps a Windows "feature" to use a slow pagefile despite having unused RAM? Has anyone observed performance degradation with sufficient RAM but without pagefile?
