Why does Winwing not accept a normal German address? I tried entering my address in their system and get errors that it cannot valid any of the address entries. As a result I cannot order from their store. Do they have another store, maybe in Europe, or can you only purchase via AliExpress?

Hi all, i kinda like to go back to the original post on the use of mfssb. I’m looking at the winwing at the moment and an about to pull the trigger (pun intended, probably is joke by now). What I’m not sure about is getting a classic Orion 2 bad or the mfssb base. I never flown with the latter. admittedly I’ve been out of flight sims for a while so I currently don’t have a bias. I can see pros with a classic base, where sudden reactions don’t result in over steering. But the con I can see that lots of stick movement could cause rsi, especially when not in a perfect ergonomic position (e.g. without arm support) the pros with mfssb is obviously less chance of rsi and other ergonomic issues, but like pointed out by others, it flies differently. I’d like to hear from people who have used both approaches, and can state their experiences on how they experienced the difference (besides relearning muscle memory).

High end hotas - which one and why?
BaronVonVaderham replied to BaronVonVaderham's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Lots of food for thought. indeed I may not be aware of high end or upper market devices as said in the thread. I want something solid. So I’m looking for metal units and solid mechanisms that can be maintained and/or adjusted if/ when needed. As for what I fly, I plan to go for f-16 and f-18 predominantly. I might do something with warbirds too. for pedals I’m pretty sure I go for the big TM units. so Virgil seems to have an alpha prime grip that’s metal, but it did not represent an aircraft that I know, or intend to fly in dcs. Their bases seem interesting though, especially the end one. I just might get a TM stick for starters, and upgrade the base when needed. that leaves the throttle assembly. I like winwing because it looks like the base is the same for the f18 and f16 configurations, with the grip being the difference. On the f16 version they tie both throttle channels together physically. Don’t know if it is plastic or metal though. benefit is that if I want to expand to other winwing modules, it should be easily adaptable. -
Just curious, does it matter if dcs is installed on the same drive as the OS or on a separate drive? I understood some games benefit from using a separate drive whereas some games run faster o. The same drive as the OS.

Apologies if this question has been asked before, but I’m interested in hearing more about the various high end hotas options and how they compare. I’m aware of some, like the Thrustmaster warthog setup which has been around a couple of centuries now I also am aware of Virpil, winwing, and vkb. there may be more high end hotas systems, which I would love to hear about. My specific interest is how they compare in use, ergonomics, practicality, quality, resilience, expandable/adaptability, price/value ratio, etc. perhaps there is a sticky/pinned post I’ve missed, in which case feel free to just provide a link to the relevant thread.

Question on the cooler, personally I’d like to go for a cooler that’s a bit overkill, to err on the side of caution. I also like bigger fans as they are generally quieter. soo I was thinking of a 280 liquid freezer II. However, I struggle finding suitable cases for that size that I actually like. It’s the same problem as with the 420. i was contemplating the T600, but can’t find out if a 280 will fit. i tried looking on pangoly, which shows known compatibility, but no such luck. Does this mean I should opt for the louder 360 instead? (Though I guess it could be argued with a 360 there’s more surface and thus the fans can run lower rpm)

Hey all, im curious if anyone has experimented with mixed reality at all. I’m aware of a company Viper wing uses what looks like a Varro xr3. That set is insanely expensive though at nearly 8k. i spotted acer and hp mr goggles, which seem to be available second hand quite cheap at around 300 or so. I also spotted a meta quest pro at a stiff 1200, but at least it’s a more recent model. anyone used any of these? What is it like?

I’m in Europe, so import duties VAT and shipping would increase the final price to something not better than within the EU. I’m actually in Germany right now, and I noticed that Amazon in Germany is more expensive than amazon in the UK. (Or maybe I moved right when the price inflation started …). Either way, it pays to shop around
-
Thanks! Actually, I got the price from Amazon. When I checked prices on google they were indeed 500€. I’m gonna have to double check the prices for my selected components! the only real reason I checked Amazon was so I could get it all delivered from Amazon in one go, and a s a prime member, when purchased from them directly, it’s easier to return when there is an issue. Third party sellers on Amazon are a nightmare in my experience, and I don’t trust other online retailers to be better to be honest.

I noticed the x670e plus WiFi is 100€ cheaper (excellent tip by the way!), but the 7800x3d is more expensive than the 7950x. however, others also mentioned the latency between the ccd’s, so it’s still a prime choice. if the 7800x3d is indeed cooler, maybe you have a recommendation for a suitable aio? Originally I wanted to get the artic liquid freezer II 420, for which there are very few cases available. so maybe I can get an aio that fits in the T600 from thermaltake. still doing research on the gpu. Some claim the drivers have improved, and for vr the vram will be needed. From this perspective maybe the 3090 is an option? (Starts at 1500€).

Thanks both! That’s a lot of information. I’ll do some rechecking based on that. for info, besides dcs, I’ll also do fs2020 and potentially X-Plane. there’s also some work stuff I will soo on the unit, like fusion 360 and Arcadia capella. Fusion can get tricky with 3D models. Capella isn’t power hungry for my own applications.

Hey all, I’m trying to decide between three motherboards for my new pc. The options are ASUS x670e-e €515 Asus x670e-f €415 Msi x670e carbon €525 Spec wise they seem to be pretty much the same. I’m using it with an amd7950x, and probably an amd rx 7900 xtx (not sure yet). Any suggestions?

Hey viper. I’m in west Europe. Still putting together my pc, soo how to get flying soon!

Hey dburn, you’re right, and it’s likely going to be my direction. I had a taster with VR on PS4 ace combat, and it’s an incredible immersive experience. It gives a definite advantage in aerial combat. maybe in due course when displays become more affordable I could build a cockpit surrounded with displays, which should give a comparable experience.

Hey all, I’m contemplating getting a vr kit later in the year, but it’ I’m also contemplating making some cockpit panels and consoles. I’d imagine that vr combined with real panels didn’t make sense, but at work we use mixed reality where we can see the panels but also have the vr benefits. had anyone experimented with that?

Apologies if this has already been discussed to death, but I was planning to put together a new PC. It’s been about 15 years since I did so, so there may be considerations for me. im planning to get an amd7950x cpu, 1000w gold or platinum psu, asus x670e motherboard (I think carbon), artic 420 liquid freezer II cooler, 64gb Ram, 2tb ssd. I’ve not yet decided on a case might get myself one of those thermaltake th600, if they can deal with the 420 aio cooler I was initially thinking of an rtx3090 or 4080 gpu, but I’m now wondering if an rx7900 xtx would be a better buy. later this year I want to get an oculus 3 when they come out. i also believe the 7950x is prone to getting hot. I think as a standard it’s configured to over click automatically, and I saw some tutorials that allow you to reduce the temp significantly (albeit at a marginal cost of performance).

Hey all, Baron here, new to DCS, but have been in the flightsim community for donkeys years. Mostly msfs. I’ve been eyeballing lock on fire as long as it existed and decided it’s time for me to take the plunge. I’m looking forward to the technical side (I realise the more professional modules are quite realistic, but for me that technical side is part of the fun!), and already started contemplating a home cockpit. A long time ago I build my own panel for fsx, and ended up selling it to some foundation that introduces kids into aerospace. Quite good fun and a learning opportunity. current technology is much more advanced than 20 years ago, soo that should make building panels quite fun! I’ll save the technical mumbo jumbo for the relevant forums, just washed to say hi and looking forward to being part of the community.
