New noob A4 question. Are Carrier Starts Bugged? I've been wanting to do the Super Carrier cold start and taxi start because I see they have the yellow dude who guides you into the catapult. But when the module starts up my plane is already in the air and just left the deck. Any thoughts on the problem? -

No Max. I just dial in the UHF preset freq.s from the Briefing before I take off. Manually. But I do have PTT set to "P" on my keyboard. That gets me to the F6 tanker comms menu. -
I teat the bujeebers out of my skills on a Carrier

trying hard to get A2A refueling. each time I get up to the basket this happens. this example I am coming in a little hot, but it also happens at slower speeds. I think I have the right switches on...maybe not? this has happened about 15-20 times. the definition of insanity comes to mind. what am I doing wrong? a4 refuel.mp4 -

@Scotch75 No thats the part I am having the problem with. I the hitting the \ key to get to the F1 menu options and nothing happens. I can't get the "contact dialogs" to trigger. -

@Scotch75 Thanks dude. Can I ask another question. I can't get the refueler (C130) to drop the basket and the hose. I think I have all the radio stuff worked out. I pull up nice and close but I can't get the F1 menu to work and initiate contact. The kneeboard checklist has not helped either. What keys am I missing? -

Sorry noob A-4 player here. I'm noticing in the Tanker Refueling process that as I slow down I get this random but repetitive "thump" - a sound and a little vibration in the cockpit. Usually if I throttle down alot. What is this? I looked for it in these pages but did not find the answer. Greatest free thing I ever got. Thanks. -
I'll try it!!

Hey all, thanks for the information very informative. I do have my curves currently around 25 in the set up. But I think @GTFreeFlyer gave me the answer. I am a "stick" rudder- twisty-guy. This, in tandem with a flight model thats a bit touchy, is probably whats causing such a big pendulum effect when I apply rudder - at least in a straight line. While banking it really doesn't cause an issue. Just on strafing runs especially as dive speed picks up over 300 knots. Anyway, thanks again. Maybe this will be fine tuned by the Devs in time for the new Reflected Campaign thats due out soon. Well, maybe soon.

Haven't played this thing in a good bit but decided to give it another try. Does anyone else notice after applying rudder - even in minimal amounts - there is an even stronger "snap back" of the nose in the opposite direction? See the attached vid. Start in perfect trim: 2550 rpm/44hg/250knots. Then two slight rudder kicks (I hesitate to even call them kicks - I barely touched them) where I maintain rudder pressure. Then a little larger one. Almost no pressure applied in either case and the nose is bouncing back and forth like crazy. I have my rudder calibration curve set to 25. Is this normal for the F4U? I also fly the K4 and D9 and they don't have as wicked of a "snap back" when applying rudder. Seems like a plane this heavy in real life shouldn't be moving like Mexican jumping bean when the rudder is applied. It makes getting rounds on target pretty difficult, and heavy rudder maneuvers are ridiculous. After reading a bit here, I unchecked the FFB box which seems to help overall just a tiny bit. But am I doing anything wrong? Am I just too hard on the controls? I'm trying not to be. F4U Rudder.mp4

Jesus, all that work for this plane that can barely hold the nose steady? Ok. That is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Kudos to you. I hope the flight model rises to the level of your detail. You deserve that much.

looks like you had one of your landing gear still down. On Carrier take offs this sometimes happens to me if I don't have a perfect take off.

Can't map 'clickable mouse cockpit" all of the sudden
Stevecat replied to dresoccer4's topic in F4U-1D
yeah I gave up on that and just made it "M" -
Hi if this helps I have a Thrustmaster T16000, no pedals. Here is a map of my primary keybinds on the stick and throttle. Kind of home made but it works. It'll give you an idea of the important ones. Hope if I'm not too late - that it helps. Haven't flown it in a while. null

Incredibly loud AI Corsairs - Can't hear my own engine start
Stevecat replied to RacerOne's topic in Bugs and Problems
yeah it would be cool if they flip flopped the AI sounds to the player aircraft. when those AI birds fly over they sound 10x better than mine. -
thats alot of water, wow

I believe Combat Pilot will drop first.

whatever drops first - the PTO Pack or Combat Pilot, thats where I'm going to live.

Thanks Etask. I didn't know the guage was IAS. I didn't fly at 23,000 but I ran your calculation through this model and it looks pretty good. It kind of makes sense that if we are already at 400mph+ level, that when you go into a dive and pick up more speed the plane becomes pretty unstable (well at least for me anyway). In dives I try to cut the RPM's to 2000 and if I can't do that, at least kill the throttle until I can get out of the dive. Maybe we actually are going the right TAS for the flight modle.

Is it possible the folks who think "it barely does over 200mph" don't realize the speed gauge is in knots? Just want to edit to add I've tried a few engine settings at different altitudes: 2,500ft all they way up through 15,000 ft and even with some blower management I can't seen to get an unarmed, trimmed F4U much over 260 knots. About 300mph. It also appears that "Combat Power" - 7000rpm at 52"- runs for about 15 minutes before the engine quits (at 10,000ft). Not sure if others results vary or if this is pretty much the norm. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse.. this is an interesting read. It showed engines were getting over 400mph with "combat overload" weights. Also that the "combat power" runs about 15mins so the developers hit the mark on that one. https://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.com/wwiiaircraftperformance.org/f4u/f4u-1-50030-final.pdf
