  1. Little background: Long time IL-2'er who got DCS Warbirds a couple years ago to see what it was all about. First plane, probably stupidly, was the K4. Not a quitter, so I stuck it out. But alas, the constant OP engine torque and the crappy old version of the Normandy map wore me out. I put DCS away until June when the F4U came out. Oh goody, now I get to play Ba Ba Black Sheep like I always wanted to as a kid. Well the F4U left a little on the table too, so I'm thinking, back to IL-2 until they fix this baby up. I did like Normandy 2.0 though. But then I see, almost by mistake, hey - I own the D9 too? when did I get that? I must have been drinking again. I see Greg flying Fw's on YouTube and he makes it look so easy - I mean, probabaly not for me, I suck - ok then, lets give it a try. Holy Sh*t!!! Where to begin. In the last two hours I have all the keybinds. Took off and landed on the first flight no issues, I can actually shoot stuff down. It has an MW50 system that is easy to understand, deploy, and it appears to actually work (vs. the K4). Even better, the annoying left wing stall we all love about the Fw, ever so present in the IL-2 version, is wayyyyy more manageable here. I was doing rolls and turns in the DCS D9 that I would never even think of in the IL-2 version. What, I can actually dogfight PvP in a D-9? More to come on that. I have to be honest, between the K4 and the F4U I was starting to think DCS Warbirds was either a total <profanity>show, or I am still a horrible sim pilot. But the D9 and it's smoothy smooth, super fun flight model have shown me the light. Maybe it's just that the K4 and the F4U make the D9 look like a thoroughbred, or is this the best Axis plane in DCS? Or any other flight sim for that matter. Oh yeah, and that engine sound. wow.
  2. No worries Rudel. I think it all goes back to me not having the RPM's high enough because I was misreading the RPM gauge. All good!! Still trying to forget the old habits of the K4 and D9 Thank you
  3. I was told that leaving the fuel pump switch in the "on" position might help.
  4. This plane got me back into DCS!!
  5. thanks folks. I think I figured out the problem and it has something to do with the RPM bug. I think the whole time the "shake" was caused by being severely under powered. When I put the RPM on the setting shown in the attached (5200 up thru 7000), everything smoothed out. So I ran if for 45 minutes and am still running it now. So that can't be Combat or WEP...must be around the mark for Continuous. @Scotch75 thank you for the clarification on the fuel pump switch! It's fun again. OMG Edited to note - I was reading the damn gauge wrong from the get go. OMG. Embarrassed!!
  6. I appreciate the replies. So instead of take off with the RPM lever set in the MAX position....just take off with the RPM no higher than 2700? As for the fuel pump switch I thought after engine start up we shut it off (?) and the pump is only for a cold start. I'm probably breaking the sh*t out of the engine. I will try these tips. Thanks again!
  7. Take a look at the attached vid. successful carrier launch. Max RPM, gear up then flaps up. Cowl flaps back down to minimum. Reset trims to neutral. I had inner cooler and oil coolers set to near closed. Then when I bring the RPM's back to about 2550 (manifold at 44) - continuous power - the plane really starts to shake. Noticed this after the last update. The shake only goes away if I take the RPM way down under 2000 or way up to like 5200. What am I doing wrong? Oh PS I thought all you "engine stopped" people were nuts, but I just had my first one. Right on take off, temps fine, gas full. I keep coming back to this thing, even though I know it's wack, I just luv it so much, LOL My Project.mp4
  8. Hey thanks @Rudel. Try to max zoom the view through the canopy and you will see what I mean about the cobwebs.
  9. I appreciate the clarification on the engine settings, but they now need to marry this to the known performance data for speed at different altitudes. And this they are far from achieving. The speed output does not match the RPM/Manifold inputs yet.
  10. Just through a slider keybind to the RPM stick. Anyway, new issue: The "enhanced canopy" changes, when you zoom the pilot view through the glass, create a spider web effect that you can't see that well through. That needs to go. It wasn't broke before, why fix it? I think I will come back to the F4U in a couple months. Enjoy and thanks for the help.
  11. yeah copy, I was just saying I had everything closed down and buttoned up but still getting the shakes around 2200 rpm all the way up to 5200
  12. Yeah Saxman this was well after take off: RPM 2550, Manifold 44. Last week I could easily set aileron and rudder trim to neutral and fly without any pressure on the stick. Have you encountered the shaking at the Continuous RPM? Innercooler and Oil Coolers closed too. It seems to go away at 5200 RPM (not very realistic). ANyway still fun. two steps forward, one step back.
  13. 1. My pilots big head is all over my mirrors even though I do not have the "Pilot Body" box checked in the main menu settings. Any way to turn him off? 2. The plane has a violent shake going from Max Carrier take off RPM down to 2550 continuous RPM. Is that supposed to be that way? It seems to settle after a few seconds on Continuous Power. Sometimes it doesn't - it shakes more than the antenna! 3. Constant rudder trim is needed again as the plane is pulling hard to the left like it did back in June at release. This was fixed as of last week, but now seems to be back again. 4. The artificial horizon, once uncaged, now seems to register the opposite of my actual turn and banking. If I'm banking right, it's showing left for example.
  14. who here checks every day twice a day for the PTO assets pack drop?
  15. that dora flew better once it lost a few parts and dropped some weight
  16. Since the great Greg also acknowledged it I think it might be an issue. I tried speeding up on straffing runs but made it worse for some reason. Thanks for the feedback guys!
  17. Did some carrier "quals" today and just want to say the improvements to the flight model are very much noticed and appreciated. Thank you!! With the new PTO pack just announced I think it's about to get really fun with the F4U. Anyway one thing seems buggy, maybe not many of us use Auto Level, but I do like an IL-2 noob... to look at maps and flip switches and stuff. Anyway whenever you turn on or turn off AutoLevel the plane goes through what I can only describe as a total spaz out. Sometimes crazily oscillating the pitch with no end other than to reset and try it again. Hopefully just a tiny bug. my .02.
  18. I thought they were for dive bombing
  19. How can we get bombs to go off after 5 or 7 seconds not on impact?
  20. I don't have a crash, but it looks like parts are flying off my plane when I land.
  21. I understand the flight model was tweaked a bit recently is this correct? Over ruddering seems to have improved a little but the pitch is still as janky as ever and doesn't feel like I'm flying a plane only 1k lbs lighter than a P-47. I know it's a big engine in a smaller airframe but it seesaws more than my Bf109. Just feels too jumpy. Also, does anyone notice when you fire all .50's the entire nose freaks out? Almost impossible to hold the reticle on target anymore. When ground strffing using the dive breaks helps but I don't think that was their intended use. Is that over modeled recoil or is it a PICNIC (problem in chair, not in computer)?
  22. Guys thanks so much for the advice. Been traveling but gonna try the tips this weekend. Many thanks again.
  23. Hi folks, Noob here just bought the F4U. No stranger to flight sims or mods but I can not for the life of me get Hawkeye60's WW2 Naval and WW2 Japanese Naval mods to load into my game. I downloaded OvGME, I "think" I'm putting them in the right directory file. But nothing is working. I know that in IL-2 there is a "master switch" of sorts to allows the game to use mods or not. Is that here in DCS too? Is there a video or a training guide you can throw a link to a new guy? I'm stuck. Thanks folks.
  24. he4y guys thanks for the help and replies. Again I don't want to be a weenie on my first post. I don't have head tracking set up here yet. I used it for IL-2 with no fisheye problems there. But actually I went back to the normal keypad views. I know numpad 5 and Enter and returning to the normal view. Just not used to the fisheye when using the zoom slider. Hopefully it can be improved at least to the level of IL-2.
  25. New to DCS so sorry if this topic has been beat to death. Got the F4U and the K4 Warbirds. I really don't want to play them anymore because the Fish Eye camera views suck and it doesn't look like there's any real way to fix it without learning to code. Hate to go negative right away but this should be pretty easy to resolve, no? If the lowly IL-2 can handle pilot views to scale, shouldn't DCS?
