The Corsair had been in production for 8+ years ww2 Marinas 3.
What was Mag3 supposed do if ED didn't decide on making Marianas?
We have plenty of modules that don't really have a home.
Like I-16 and the upcoming LA-7.
MiG15. Viggen finally got a home last week, after 5+ years.

Someone need remember the first talking about a Corsair module coming when M3 was Leatherneck 3rd parties, when Mig-21bis was release and Lnk show a stub about a Iwo Jima map and a F4U.... Before break them and form Heatblur (and AJS-37)... And M3 (with rescue de Mig-21bis and start the CE2 to relearn making modules to DCS).... They put the F4U on "fridge" and Iwo Jima was depleted , they never form a map team as Heatblur (the claims about the baltic and north atlantic mais). On that times none has know about a Marianas.... Modern or WW2 by ED, was the times of the Channel.... And RRG studios "drama" modules.

Add to Octopus-G the incoming Po-2, show on the Chirsmast video, and that team has no a Assets Pack team. About maps, the same situations, Only ED and Ugra media make maps, bue UM has none a assets pack team yet.

  4. Miltech 5 Bo-105 develop update.

    Dear DCS Simmers,

Today we successfully completed the downwash effect for the Medusa rotor system. All 10 sectors of each rotor blade are included and the distance to the ground is accurately calculated.

The first tests were very(!) successful.

Next, the ground effect is connected to the MEDUSA rotor system.

Air density, temperature, rotor speed, parts on the helicopter and other physical influences are taken into account here.

    GYROS:

Gyro alignment is currently limited from 2 minutes to 10 seconds.

However, we will implement a feature in the configuration menu that can be selected between REAL ALIGNMENT and FAST ALIGNMENT.

    TEST PHASE:

We have programmed an extra app for the RL PILOTS that runs during the flight and allows them to influence the intensity of all control inputs during the flight.

This app has sliders that are taken over in real time by DCS and are executed directly.

    Final Tasks for FM:

    - LUBRICATION

    - HYDRAULIC

    - ENGINE (This task will be finalized as soon as we have the inputs from the FM test from the RL pilots)

Our Pilot already entered the Cockpit...

ROIE, our Co-Pilot is ready ...

While simply slapping a Soviet livery on the model we have won't work, I'm still wondering how hard would it be for Dekka to tweak the model and add the tail gun, right nose and antennae?

the engine naceles, the nose (soviet radar radome / cristal bomber), the wing, the undercarriage and the fuselage has diferences, has not only a minor changes.

Just finished an inspection of one of the seemingly endless boomers, many of which are in the dock so there was some concern about material condition.  Dock time is normal after a deployment, or meltdown, but there seemed to be an excessive number of boomers in need of repair.  Pretty obvious these are soft-shelled turtlebacks and the flow noise must be horrendous.

Also noticed, and this makes the map almost unflyable, they replaced Rosatomflot with something else entirely and the big icebreakers that should be there with generic bulk carriers.  Oh, horrors <cue dramatic music>.  Parked the Kuz where it belongs just barely south of those piers, large chunks of (available) Russian hardware to the north, added a couple Kilos...almost have a navy, even if it's all welded to piers.

Hello devs! I saw a lot of french videos about F1, and I noticed that a lot of flights were together with Jaguars. And I find it as the really nice way of using 2 different jets with similar dinamics as mixed group. Jaguar was used as fighter-bomber with smart AG weapon, and it also can use anti radar and anti sea rockets and AGMs with laser-guided bombs. Also took part in Desert Storm operation and operated in Chad together with F1. So I think that it would be the great compliment from the chef if you guys find this idea reasonoble and let me and other virtual pilots interested in french line jets to have Jaguar in DCS.

Uh, that sounds strangely similar to what people said about Kodak. Now, I'm not saying ED are about to go under or in any danger, but what happened to Kodak was partly the result of not moving with the market. I'm sure the kind people at ED are constantly looking at options, and for the time being have decided to stick with the old-school 'one-off' business model. I wish them well, and also am happy to state that I'd stick with them should they go subscription.

"old school"... o yeah.... ED was in the past first by a study under control of external publishers SSI/Ubisoft....(Flanker to Lomac), publish your own products (FC to A-10C), and now has Base free with your projects and 3rd Parties products (DCS World), and now ED has Kodak...

The problem I think is the current business model is not sustainable long term......there is a limit to how many modules people will buy and a limit to how many there to make still....If we want ED and DCS to survive and grow going forwards, what is wrong with being frank and open with the community that buys the product about how it goes forwards? Its clear ( present troubles if we are to believe the conjecture, are an example) that the lack of known, regular income is starting to hurt...you cant rely on external developers producing stuff at the required dates and state of readiness regularly enough to make accurate financial forecasts and plan your cash flow. I would be very happy to pay a subscription as long as it had added value and clarity on what you get. The world changes and business need to change with it, sad fact of life.

ED has a company with 33 years old... and DCS has 15 years old. Surely has not sustainable at long term?

About building modules... ED and 3rd parties has making only a little part of the more remarked modules on the aviation history, and has many aircrafts on modern / Cold War / WW2 with can build. We dont talking about maps / other stuff modules will can build on a future.

Overall though, I agree with the original post:  We need more detailed landscape engines here.

Games like MSFS have really pushed the bar, and having 2010 map-technology now is showing its age. MSFS has much higher detail and is still performant, so this isn't an impossible goal.

The real question is whether or not DCS would require an entirely new engine to support such a shift in detail.  The new Kola map is an example where, given OrbX' other projects in MSFS, their quality is quite high and I can only imagine that the trees and buildings we see in their Kola map being as refined as any other on Caucauses is only due to limitations of the engine itself.

ED has working on a "Whole Earth" technology and Vulkan engine has arround the corner... diferent engines, diferent map building technics and diferent module buildings, and MSFS a engine without none about damage models, warfare systems, weapons, and a long etc... ED dont need change to engine to other with none capability to make realistic combat.

I know there are quite a few differences, though the question is how hard would it be to convert the existing model?

Someone need build a real Soviet Tu-16 version, no a Chinesse H-6 3rd party 3D model with soviet textures to pass as a "Soviet Tu-16". The chinesse versions has making many changes on your superstructure and systems, that is not change the texture. That require a complete new 3d model with propper funtionality.

The actual Dekka H-6 require a complete redone and remade from scratch, and surely ED dont like depend from a 3rd party about a AI soviet aircraft.

Hi Germane, It is not always possible to fit everything in to the 2024 & beyond video. We will share more news about clouds and our plans for 2024 in a future newsletter.

    thanks

Any news about the future newsletter about weather?

The old "2023 and Beyond" newsletter.

    Weather
Building upon the weather enhancements that were introduced with DCS 2.7, we have been further developing weather to include moving clouds and towering cumulus clouds and more sophisticated atmospheric phenomena. New fog and dust storms are being developed that are integral parts of the volumetric cloud system. The old DCS fog is a separate system that is calculated for a flat earth. It does not consider shadows from the terrain and clouds, so it has limitations. The new fog will be computed for a spherical earth and takes shadows into account. We also plan to optimize the volumetric clouds and increase their basic quality. A separate and complex project currently in development is the dynamic cloud generator which will then need to be integrated with the dynamic weather systems of low/high pressure systems and new/evolving cloud types.

A later task, once the foundation is complete, will be to provide AI line of sight blocking in addition to light direction/scattering visibility limitations for AI.
