  1. I stated i would describe how to do things and that includes shutting the computer down, and here is the important bit, if necessary. Go argue with somebody else please. You seem to want to argue and since i dont like your tone i am declining to engage.. So, off you go to your own little corner and find somebody who will engage you, just the way you want. It wont be me! I have better things to do with my time than argue with two people who have a combined post count over 13.000 and want to interpret official govenment statistics to suit their own needs. You two like to argue. Fine . Do it without me. Linux uptake is at %6. Dont like that number as you feel threatened by it somehow? Not my problem. I stopped reading your drivel about half way though.
  2. M$ caught flak for bundling IE with the OS/computer. Google is taking flak and significant heat now for demanding phone manufacturer's bundle andriod and by proxy firefox. Who knows what M$ demands from hardware makers in order to use their OS but i bet there are more stings attached than we know about. Those strings might be illegal if they are forcing factories to bundle the OS. If you stop giving consumers a choice that tends to have consequences. We might see hardware being sold without an OS in the future. Pick your OS when you get home I would ask the user to shut the computer down and then restart it. This is the way to do it. Dont use "big words" KISS. At least this is what was demanded of me, when i was studying for my certs. Even people on the other end of the phone can be talked though very complex tasks. Dont treat them like an idiot and explain things in terms they can understand. The internet as you know it. Is run by and on, linux servers. linux servers have this corner of the market all to themselves. It is a monopoly. I would guess at least 2/3 or %65 of all computers that "serve" you the "net" are linux.. Maybe even more. Look. If people want to stay on windows. Cool. No sweat off of my back. I know why i left and that does not mean i have to force people to accept the same reasons and change. When people get sick of being abused by M$ maybe then is the time for people to leave. Some people just do not care about what it is that M$ plans and do already. They have been conditioned to accept those terms. Not me
  3. Try some. Try a few. Try them all. Dont even need to install to have a look. They can run inside a USB stick. If you do want to install....take windows drive physically out of computer. Leave in the drive you want to have linux on. Install linux and update then shut down. Physically install the windows drive again. Keep the linux boot loader off of partition 1 on drive 1 and let it get installed on its own drive - you do this by having one single drive in the system to install on so it cant install the boot loader on the windows drive...which it does by default. If you dont then it gets installed on the windows drive and then troubles begin when M$ messes that partition up and then you cant boot at all. Neither OS will function when M$ chucks it up. And they will. Most middle ranged MOBO's now have 2 M2 slots, so perfect for dual booters. Windows on one. Linux on the other. Mint was fairly easy for me to get my head around. The look and feel is similar to windows, as is the UI. Most linux users would say to use Mint first. I use Nobara. If you are a gamer though with modern hardware, even if you use nvidia, i would suggest Nobara. Apps necessary for linux gaming are installed and configured already. Just install steam, download your games or use a backup, then play. Just using steam and proton. No messing about with settings. Noob friendly. It shares many short cuts with windows. Look and feel is also similar. If you have all AMD hardware then your linux experience will be even easier. AMD drivers are already built into the kernel unlike the hack job that nvidia uses to get their drivers to work in linux. Both AMD and Nvidia are fine to use in linux and i have used both with no issues. Nvida has closed drivers so they need to do their things differently. I used my 3060 12 GB to game on linux. To use nvidia with nobara you just choose a different ISO where it all set up already. Nobara offers pre-configured and apps necessary for gaming are all loaded into the different ISO they offer. E.g. Nvidia with gnome desktop. Nvidia with cinnamon desktop. Nvidia with KDE desktop. They offer 9 different ISO's to suit your hardware and likes. People here do not even have the up to date stats for linux users. We are now at %6, not the claimed %2.5 or whatever i read above. That figure is most likely low balling it. That %6 number comes from the US government itself, when they count people using google analytics on official US government sites. Linux is used in greater numbers in poorer nations since they do not have to play for the OS but can still game on steam. They dont use US government sites. Privacy aware people also hide their browser identifiers as these can be used to track you. This makes linux users not appear as linux users on government sites, so they do not get counted even though they are using linux. All i am saying is that the number of users, i think, is more than the %6. Windows 10 is dead. That number will rise now. In a years time it will rise again when 10 truly reaches end of life. Its on life support at the moment. For a year. Then its dead.
  4. That battllenet hanging @%50 was not your fault. I assume it was hanging at %50 as that is where it hangs with the bug, unless you do the work around. GE, aka gloriouseggroll has a fix on his channel posted. His youtube channel that is. GE works on proton and has his own versions. Might work for you...might not. Dunno. Worth a try. Dont know if i can post links here so will only add the last bit of the youtube address that you can paste /watch?v=PRY56C9Jce0 TrackIR has a linux alternative. Opentrack. So even camera's work now. So now we have the basis of what makes DCS, DCS. The game, the joystick and the head tracking camera's with working software...... I am in the process of getting a bigger M2 SSD so i can actually start messing around with getting DCS to work. I dont have the space on current linux drive so cant even start to experiment. Once i get the bigger drive in a week or so, then windows is history for me for good. I am wiping the drive and that will go to another M2 slot to test CachyOS or Arch as people got DCS to run on those distros with VR headtracking and some peripherals like the glove for VR. To use Linux or not is a personal choice for all of us. Continue to use windows if you so choose but then please also be quiet and stop moaning about what they do to you. This last sentence is not addressed to you - the person i replied to as you seem to have tried linux and it was a positive XP - but to all those still on windows
  5. You are clearly not a gamer on linux so why even say this? If you were a user of linux, you would clearly know that your statement is completely false. My guess is you are a windows user and are perpetuating the mis-information you heard about linux and are treating these myths as fact. When in fact, you can game on Linux with very little headache involved. I doubt you even have a machine or drive that can run linux. I've used windows since the MSDOS days and 10 is my last. I hold IT certs on the widows platform and can very comfortably move around inside it, fix it and do things. I decided to leave windows last Nov so i have nearly a year of part time linux use. During that time i've used linux more and more to the point that i have now spent pretty much all time since the demise of 10, inside of linux. I was in windows for 3 min yesterday to finally transfer over my discord so i can ask questions inside the discord server for my distro, instead of switching OS's. I use Nobara. Which is Fedora based. The facts are these: Gaming on Linux is very much alive. We are playing games that are not native to linux to be exact. And then there are the native linux games that also just work. I played %98 of my steam games just using steam and their proton campat layer. So these are not 4 bit, 16 color, CGA indie games. I played hogwarts legacy today with every single option turned up, including FSR 3. I have an AMD card. 9060XT 16GB. I am on 1080p, as are most gamers, still, and i was @ 60 FPS (monitor limit) @ 32 celcius @ 500 RPM fan. Others with more technical, knowledge than this one year linux user, can get DCS to work in Linux and even use VR with gloves attached. They use Arch. Yeah, cool eh? And with nearly %100 certainty better FPS than in windows. Linux uptake is easily %5 now and will climb this year as more and more people switch. This %5 is mostly likely the actual threshold at which point studios start paying attention to the OS. I did not say make games native in linux. I said pay attention to the OS. Our numbers are growing. More and more people are sick and tired of the actual bull ox manure that microsoft dished out. Their spying which they call "telemetry", the disrespect of the user and their chosen settings which are not reverted back to what they user set, the ads, the ads, the ads, yes, three times cos they show ads, again and again. In windows 10 the BS even starts before you are even in the OS as you are asked no less than 15 questions on if you want to be spied upon or not. They even go as far as asking if you want to be identified and given a "personal" ID for the sake of the advertisers so they can serve you up "personalized" ads. WTF? All this crap before you even used windows as this is before the install even.
  6. Not asking for remapped commands to be displayed correctly but to display the default keybinds in the settings pages for aircraft.. This simple act can help us learn the cockpits and button commands way faster. After just a few flights you know and can remember that such and such a button has the (name command here) attached to it. Can i edit a file and add these myself somehow? If so, i will.
  7. SPOILERS Spoilers Hardest mission i played yet. I had no ground reference and the upper atmosphere made it hard to stay level and even see. Flying into the sun was not easy either I am not a pilot but sit in a chair at home in front of a screen. Got a few hits in the bugger but shooting in their wake at that alt is not easy. Not enough damage to down him so stop chasing which also was not easy at alt and turned for home. Landed.
  8. Why did they add stuff to a free flight only mission that looks like it is a target? The mission maker even specifically changed the color of the friendlies to make it appear as if they are the enemy. On top of that you get severely punished with a pilot points reset to zero if you do act on your impulse to shoot the red that normally represents the enemy. I mean i am not allowed to say here how stupid of a move that really is. They are almost baiting people on mission start to shoot stuff and then punishing them for it when mission ends. Did they think people would not shoot at red labeled targets even though for the last 326 hours they have shot at anything and everything that is red. I am just glad that i started in earnest, this week, to back up pilot log so i can actually reverse this bonehead move, i hope. I hope. Thanks for clarifying
  9. Sorry, i should have said this is the Instant Action button at the top. You pick airplane on left, type of mission in middle and map on right. No means to select coalitions. No toggle for any of that. As soon as you pick the three you are loading game and will be ingame
  10. So wanted to see a new default view where the view was not looking down by default. Copied the lua. Started game. I picked marianas ww2 and free flight - the top most selection. I just wanted to get in and see what the view was, but starting in the air. When loaded in i saw the island off in the distance with red markers on targets. Not blue. Blue to me meaning friendlies as was the case up until this game start. I load in and all targets around me are red. I see two planes in front of me. Cant really make them out. I see planes in the distance and tags say 190 A-8. So i know they are german. Did not pay attention too much to the tags of the planes in front of me which are in red. Game mode suggested no threat level so the red planes in front of me remaining "neutral" and not attacking me right away which was expected. So i pop a few roads off just for fun on one of the two in front after seeing that the new view is slightly higher up and does not look down by a few degrees anymore. Cool. Plane in front is on fire and dives away. Same with second plane after a squirt. I start to go for the 190's off in the distance. I shoot them down and quit game. Game says i was guilty of fratricide and my score has been reset. Uh...ok..so those red planes were mustangs? Why were they red? To me red means bad, kill, its the enemy. Shoot to kill, down them, eliminate them Does the free flight selection make them red?
  11. Seven years later this is still the case. Bezos will do anything for money. Sad. I bought the version of FC2 that came with the ring bound manual and a map. It was a version of LOMAC with a separate disk for the FC2 mod.
  12. Indeed it was not turned on. Imagine that. Fly all the way to france with no fuel pressure on. I suppose the pumps on the wobble pump at the start was enough to for the external which i was using. Thank you. Bagged two huns this time. I started on the mustang so this spit is pure joy to fly.
  13. Same here. I moved to the Spit from the mustang and there you just select the tank and that is all you do. For my first 20 hours i was flying the mustang on very lean fuel as the switch was not even set to run. I figured that out later. I was limping all the way accross the channel and struggelign hard to even reach the height of the bombers. It would take me forever to get that high. That is when i said this cant be right as the plane was seriously having issues even getting to 20k. That is when the facepalm moment happened. You idjit, set mixture to run. From then on no more issues. But it did teach me how to fly better and deal with temps, opening the vents and closing them and RPM settings. With the spit you have to shut off main tank and then engage the drop tank. When empty i drop it and switch tanks. I am on mission 4 now of The Big Show and i had to learn how to deal with fuel since i ran out of fuel on the first mission. Learned how to use it but fuel is still an issue. Main tank fuel was down to less than %20 once landed last mission (3). Will need to start using proper climbing/engine management technique now. I am worried about fuel as i was dogfighting the last two missions and still had fly home. The limits on are that plaque in the cockpit. cruise ~2600 +4 Max Cont ~2500 +7 Max Climb ~2800 +9 Takeoff 3000 =12
  14. I will look at engine temps more closely at high alts cos this is happening to me too. This initially happened to me when switching from drop tank, which was empty, to main tanks. The engine would just stop more or less and i would have to wait a bit, while pumping the hand pump, to get the fuel pressure back up. The engine would then start back up. The three times ive been up on the The Big Show campaign this happened to me. All three times when changing tanks and then also later on during the flight. All well above 25k. All of a sudden the fuel pressure light would come on despite the switch being set to pressurize the tank and the only thing that makes the light go off and get the engine running again is using the hand pump till the light goes off.
