  1. They did not.
  2. As somebody that was deployed there during the time period this map was modelled, the map is really good to me. I was actually amazed that the buildings for the bases were modelled to such a degree that when I fly over them, I recognize all the tents, b-huts, Connex's and barracks I stayed at, as well as other buildings and roads I've been in and travelled on. The biggest thing that kind of makes the experience feel off for me personally, is that there is quite a bit of aircraft that were used there and that are missing from DCS as a whole. I remember there being KC-10 tankers, EA-6B Prowlers, MC-12's, RAF and French Puma/Super Puma helicopters, Italian Bell 212 and 412 helicopters, Canadian Bell 412 helicopters, Marine Corp CH-46 Sea Knight's, Marine Corp Kaman K-Max's and Italian, Danish, and RAF AW-101 helicopters operating in theater. There was also a lot of civilian planes and helicopters operating in theater as well. The ramps at Kandahar and Bagram had a lot of them operating out of there. Bagram alone had quite a few 747 cargo planes, Boeing 737-800's, and Boeing 767's consistently flying in and out. Antonov An-124's would sometimes come in and out of Bagram. I remember there being civilian CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters and civilian Bell 212 helicopters as well. The wildest thing I ever saw was either in late 2012 or early 2013 when taxing into the ramp at Kandahar was a WB-57 Canberra bomber! I remember being really surprised when seeing it because I didn't even know any Canberra's were flying, let alone in a warzone like Afghanistan.
  3. Yeah, don't get me wrong I want to have multiple variants of the F-16 and the different aircraft we have in DCS. When DCS was in its infancy with just a handful of modules and maps, I was pretty open to imaginative scenarios to use the aircraft we have. Now that we have maps with different time periods modelled and more aircraft to fly though, the idea of having to fly the F-35 in 1980's Germany or a 2005 AH-64 over 1991 Sarajevo in multiplayer is too out there even for me. I would like for DCS to be more fleshed out so everyone can fly in different time periods with appropriate aircraft.
  4. In the helicopter I fly IRL, I was taught not to exceed 200 to 300 feet per minute on approach so not enter a VRS state. In training, I had moments of briefly exceeding that and promptly correcting, but I've never exceeded 500 feet per minute on approach. The only time I've ever entered VRS in real life was when having to deliberately induce it and practicing recovering for it while in training. Every helicopter has different disc loadings which impact the speed and rates of descent you would encounter VRS at. Here is a diagram of predicted VRS onset boundaries for various rotorcraft. Rotorcraft with high disc loadings, like the Sikorsky CH-53E and Bell Boeing MV-22B, encounter VRS at higher forward speeds and rates of descent than helicopters with lower disc loadings.
  5. Well, F-16A Block 10 was also used in Desert Storm for what it's worth.
  6. The primary recovery method for a developing VRS in a Chinook is to apply lateral cyclic to fly out of the turbulent air, rather than forward cyclic, which can aggravate the issue by increasing the angle of incidence of the aft rotor system. There is a phenomenon where the aft rotor head can enter a vortex ring state during rapid decelerations. This results in an abrupt nose-up attitude and a sinking feeling, which can lead to a hard landing if not quickly recovered.
  7. I don't know why people have such a bad experience with the Sinai map, I find it to be very detailed. My biggest complaint is the lack of 3rd party campaigns for it. About the Balkans map though, while it's true we have an F-16C for it... we don't have an appropriate era F-16C for the Yugoslav wars. We really need a pre-CCIP Block 40/42 F-16C for it, the Cold War Germany map, and the Iraq map for Desert Storm.
  8. I've been encountering this issue quite a bit lately where the AWACS ignores targets close to me/intercepting me and instead gives me bearing, range, and altitude to targets hundreds of miles away instead.
  9. The Flanker DOES bring more features though. If the FC3 version is anything to go by, we have a datalink for enhanced situational awareness in the Flanker. The Flanker also has significantly greater range and more hardpoints than the Fulcrum as well When you are taking off from a carrier, but you can take off and land from land bases as well in the Su-33. During operations in Syria the initial strikes were launched from the carrier Admiral Kuznetsov but the Su-33 were subsequently deployed to Hmeymim air base where they performed 90% of their combat missions. With the Admiral Kuznetsov now out of commission for the foreseeable future the aircraft now operates from land bases exclusively. I'd like to add that the Su-33 is also air refuellable so that is another additional feature that would be added if we get a full fidelity version.
  10. If you don't see any lag in singleplayer then it is just an issue with multiplayer in DCS in general. It's been around since I started playing DCS in 2014. Sometimes it gets better during certain updates and other times it gets worse. The only time I managed to get rid of stuttering in multiplayer was during a brief moment during DCS 1.5 when I bought 128gb of RAM that I used on an older PC.
  11. You mentioned this was in multiplayer. Are you completely stutter free in single player as well? I'm asking because this is a major way to diagnose if it is an issue with your system instead of the multiplayer performance of DCS in general. I've been playing DCS for 11 years on 5 different systems. They were all Intel based until I switched to a 9800X3D about 7 months ago and I've been quite happy about it. That being said, stuttering in multiplayer in DCS has always been an issue for me and a lot of people. Especially when the server gets overloaded. The server can list 64 people as maximum amount, but it seems like when it is around 30 to 40 plus players the stuttering gets really bad. Switching to a 14700K from a 9800X3D isn't going to make your stuttering problem better, it will make it worse. Especially if you are not having issues with it in single player. Also, the majority of 14700K chips are defective. Mine started failing after only 4 months and it wasn't overclocked either. There was a defect in the manufacturing process when Intel was making those chips. Some people have issues from the first day of install, some have gone a year or more with no issue. It will at some point most likely fail either way. That is why I replaced mine with a 9800X3D chip. You can set your graphics setting to low, medium, or high but there a couple specific settings that greatly impact stuttering from my observations. Those settings are SSLR and civilian traffic. I don't know why these settings give me stuttering on the 9800X3D in single player, but they do. I have turned off both settings and DCS still looks absolutely stunning on my 42-inch 4k monitor. I will attach a screenshot of my settings for you to look at in this post. I have had stuttering issues in single player in DCS due to my RAM as well in the past. The 9800X3D seems pickier with RAM than on Intel chips in my experience. I have gone through three sets of RAM on my latest PC before finding a set that worked well. It was the AMD specific G.Skill Trident 2x32 6000mt's RAM. The first set of a RAM was a 4x16 6000MT's set from TeamGroup and my machine did not like it all. It gave me a lot of blue screens, stuttering and crashes in DCS and other simulators and games. Second set was a 2X48 4800MT's set from Corsair that would overheat and give me the same issues. Have you updated your processor and chipset drivers for your 9800X3D from the AMD website as well? You need to do it for both categories if you haven't. It makes a major difference also. Also, make sure you do not have Ryzen Master, Nvidia Experience app, or ASUS Armory Crate installed as well. These programs eat up resources in the background. In the case of ASUS Armory Crate, you will want to reinstall your entire Windows install and make sure not to install it again. Lastly, sometimes when loading into a server the VRAM on your graphics card can go over budget when loading everything in and needs a little bit of time to release it. This is more noticeable on some of the higher detailed maps like the Sinai map for instance. You might notice some stuttering or hanging during that time as well.
