Can you fast forward a track file?
-
I have decided to not invest any more time on Cachya and FaceTrackNoIR. I will order a TrackClip Pro, remove my PS3 Eye's IR filter (if necessary), and see how it works out. Due to the price of TrackIR in my country (220 USD, not including the clip), it's either FreeTrack or nothing. :D

You mean, by using "Run as administrator"? No, I didn't, but my user account IS an administrator.

I have tried it already, but couldn't get it to behave the way I want it to. It's either too sensitive or insensitive, and I especially can't get it to let me look down the cockpit, especially when looking to the sides, because I turn my head too much and it looses track of my face.

Hi, I have recently stumbled upon a head tracking program called Cachya. From what I've read, it tracks a piece of paper that the player puts on a hat. I have seen videos demonstrating its accuracy, and it seems to work great. So I've downloaded the trial version from Cachya.com, but when I choose my webcam as the tracking source, the program crashes. I have tried all versions of the program. The website has a forum, but it's dead. No one responds there. Also, some reported not getting an activation key, after paying for the application (which is $15, I believe). Anyway, I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to stop the program from crashing. It gives me the following error: "The instruction at 0x0040f6ae referenced memory at 0x6111001. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program." Please give the program a try so I would know if the problem is my PS3 Eye. Keithb77, if you're reading this, give it a try, will ya? The program is just a few MBs, so don't be afraid.

I wish for flightmodel-computations on a separate CPU core!

Is it really needed? I think modern Quad Cores should have no problem processing the entire game, plus some motion tracking solution. -
OK then. I will try it again tomorrow after I pick up my PS3 Eye camera and try it with FaceTrackNoIR. :)

No Henchman14, I SAW the airspeed indicator showing 5 kmph, and that was before it stopped working.
-
Did I really smash into the mountain? From my perspective it looked like I exploded mid-air. Do I need to turn all anti-icing systems, including pitot icing? I believe I should, because I lost airspeed indication when I was up on those mountains, and got it back as soon as I left the icy mountains.

I have to admit, this mission's route now seems impossible to fly, but in my previous attempt at this mission I had absolutely no issues getting to the hostile area. The funny thing is that in both occasions I used the autopilot ROUTE mode. I'm attaching the track file. It's about 20 minutes into the flight when the problems begin, so I hope it's possible to fast forward tracks. High iced mountains.trk

Hi, I'm flying the On The Other Side mission, and in the area where the mountains are all iced, I simply can't get forward speed. I'm pretty much stuck in the air. I have turned on Rotor De-Ice, and the only way to gain a speed of more than 5kmph is by raising the collective all the way up, which triggers some beeping, and afterward I lose power to the Shkval. What can I do to fly such areas of low temperature and high altitude?

OK, thanks. I would also like to get my other question answered, as it seems that the Su aircrafts have an important role in this game, but I don't know whether it's automatically done, or needs to be manually triggered by the player.

Another useless comment stating that BS does indeed work fine on Windows 7 :)
-
Thanks for the advice. I surely will use it. Next time I'm playing the mission is when I get my PS3 Eye camera and set it up with either FreeTrack or FaceTrackNoIR. :) Also, I have a question: in the OP, you said you triggered the SU fixed wing aircraft to destroy the SAMs. Was it automatic when you reached a certain distance from the enemy targets, or did you do it manually? And another question: when I tell my wingmen to attack a target, they leave the formation and go rambo on the target. How do I make them stay in formation and use missiles from their current position?

Shkval targets are not destroyed by Vikhr

Collective brake only works when the Altitude auto-pilot channel is ON. When you release the break, you are telling the chopper to hold the current altitude. Note that you might also have to decrease/increase collective to "help" the autopilot system hold that altitude. I think it's because the autopilot system only has 20% control over the different things it controls - bank, yaw, pitch and altitude. -
Actually, I read the entire manual, except for the Basic Flight School and what's after that...

Hi, I wonder if there is a list somewhere that includes names and screenshots of all the enemy types in BS. I could really use such a list to know what I'm looking at on the Shkval, and whether or not it will shoot a missile at me if I get within its range.

I just played (and failed) this mission and was unable to lock on a SAM which is about 7km away. It looked somewhat transparent, unlike the other stationary vehicles, on which I could get a lock and easily destroy. So I ended up flying toward that SAM to destroy it with unguided rockets, but the remaining BTRs shot me down after a few minutes of flying around them.

Thanks CAT, that should be useful. As for trimming, I never use it, it makes my Ka-50 "bump" after set (with the Center stick option enabled) and it doesn't stay the way I set it. That is, it changes the heading of my helo.

My real problem is reducing airspeed without increasing altitude. I never do it perfectly, always gain a few dozen meters.
-
Hi, The DCS BS manual says that, when about to land, 400-500 meters from the base, at 60-70m altitude, airspeed should be smoothly reduced, progressively. How do I know the distance from my current position to the helipad or base I am approaching toward? I was thinking about aiming the laser designator at the helipad using the Shkval, but I wonder if there are other ways, WITHOUT setting the base as the steerpoint.

Maybe you haven't read all the posts, but I did mention I finished the mission. I was able to follow him all along, but I did lose sight of him for 3 seconds about 4 times. It was when he was pretty low, which made him hard to spot in the terrain. So I spotted him again when he climbed. It's much easier to spot him with the sky as the background.
-
I can bring the helicopter to a hover, but it takes me more than a few seconds, and I find it especially hard to land on helipads. BTW, I finally finished the mission. I got the Mission Accomplished thingy as soon as my leader initiated his landing. However, I did continue and land as well, cause finishing a mission while still in the air seems like cheating to me. And yes Conure, I am new to the hobby.

Just know that making your webcam work for head-tracking requires modification of the webcam. It's simple, but I think it makes the webcam black and white only.
