  1. Most of us are at work! Everyone knows that. (If we were at home, we'd be flying.)
  2. Sigh... ...I mischose my words and I'll go back and edit the sentence. As you can see from my post previous to the one you quote, I'm aware that this is a pre-purchase. None of my posts have been about asking where my $60 went, or have anything to do with a feeling of getting slighted. I plan on re-purchasing the boxed version when it's out simply to support the cause, plus a hard copy manual if made available. Thank you. Didn't I say that!?:smilewink:
  3. I agree completely!! I have no doubt that they're working their a$$'s off, and I have the utmost respect for the devs that have created the greatest sims I've ever flown, bar none! I was just airing in the chit-chat thread a few suspicions I've had from the first mention of a pre-purchase, and they're not unfounded. If ED's industry peers have drawn similar conclusions from the available information, that doesn't make it fact, but it doesn't make it conspiracy either. I'm aware that Matt's a producer and not a dev, which makes some of the contradictory statements and occurances all the more strange. Again, I have nothing but respect for ED for the fantastic flight sims that are without equal and I will support anything they produce as long as it maintains this level of quality and realism. My original post didn't presume to tell ED how to run their business, neither did it even criticize how it's currently run. I didn't mean it to be rude or disrespectful and I hope it didn't come across that way. It was a small collection of observations I've made over the past six months and the conclusions that I'm beginning to draw based on them.
  4. B5 (or 4.5) was supposed to arrive before the new year. Then it became second week of January timeframe. After that, as soon as TIR is fixed, late January. Then, oops! There's no B5 at all! That was for Steam. (WHaaaaa? And where did that come from?!?) Now there are problems that have more or less postponed B6 until...? And I don't even think we'd have gotten that info two weeks ago if a forum member didn't drag up something that a developer said in the Russian forums. I'm not going to subscribe to the conspiracy theories on the sell-off of ED... But I do feel that something is amiss on the visible (consumer) side of ED. The sudden removal of Battle Commander, and the confusion that caused even within ED. Wags apparently knowing nothing about B5 as a Steam testbed. JimMack speaking of an end-of-feb release! (I'll eat my hat!) And am I the only one that thinks that they did an open, full-priced pre-release maybe because they needed a cash advance? I don't think any of the ED guys are going to come on here and say, "yep, that's why we did it," (though that was the presumption by other producers/devs in the recent State of the Industry article.) While it's true what others have said, that ED is fairly open to handing out information. At the same time, we repeatedly hear things from one producer or dev that contradicts something we were just told the day before. it wouldn't surprise me if they finally update us again and said, "there will be no further betas, we're shooting for a full release," and then beta 7 shows up on the download page tomorrow.
  5. Nor would you have the opportunity. Kelly McGillis doesn't fly joysticks! (Unfortunately!) :music_whistling:
  6. You're right. I apologize. My post did come out kind of rude and condescending. I won't let it happen again. I stand by my predictions.
  7. Not only skeptical. How about, "No chance in hades!" And I guess the new one will be released "9 months" later. And maybe by that time it will be "modular", instead of a series. Riiiiiiight. I wonder if they actually believe their own spin. My predictions: DCS:WH download final release: late April DCS:BS update patch: end of 2011 (if we're lucky!) DCS:?? early 2014 (again, seriously, if we're lucky!)
  8. I've added his full quote to my original post. I did not intend to change his context. Here is the context of my post: Lefuneste01 said, post#1768, he's frustrated because he doesn't have continuous uninterrupted hours available to learn/play, and that a simple "save" feature would greatly reduce his frustration. He is further frustrated because the only possible "workaround", taking control from a track, is a nearly completely impotent feature. I share both of these frustrations. My issue is that GG's suggestion to "c) do it right to start with", in the context of a) and b), places the blame on Lefuneste01, as if he was doing something wrong to begin with. That it's not ED's concern that there isn't a save function. It's not ED's concern that tracks, more often than not, are broken. (Very common, search the forums.) And that maybe it's his inability to manage his free time that is at fault. Since I share Lefuneste's frustrations for the same reasons, I take personal offense to being told that I'm doing it wrong. I've read the manuals and I continue to reference them. I search the forums for solutions to problems I encounter. I've printed cheat sheets to reference while in-flight. I have agreements with my wife that I'm not to be bothered at certain times. But when life gets in the way (wife has to stay late at work-i get called in to work-kid is sick and has to come home from school-pipe in basement breaks-kid gets in fight-etc) it is frustrating to the extreme that there is no way at all to save your place in these sims. For some, those that aren't so fortunate to have endless consecutive hours at their disposal, and those that still want to learn a brilliant study sim, implementing a save function of some sort would alleviate a massive source of frustration. Therefore, I added option d) to GG's post. And I consider it out-of-line to suggest that we've done something wrong to cause this frustration, and further insensitive to imply that it's a lack of family time management that is the cause.
  9. Thank you. I will try this when I get home.
  10. d) Implement a "save" function in the game. "Do it right to start with." Really? Very poor form. I don't think that it's right for you to lecture us on how to prioritize our personal lives in order to accomodate a computer game. Quite the opposite, actually. Even in the middle of the night i have had to lose a 2 hour mission in Black Shark because I was on call. It is very frustrating, and it's not because I wasn't "do[ing] it right." Even trying to perform a workaround by saving a track doesn't work, because tracks are completely broken too, and have been for a loooong time!! Every track I've played back has lawn-darted me into the ground after five minutes or so. Should I have to prioritize my life because your program is busted? Absolutely not. Fix the program.
  11. I know that enemy forces, or really anything, can be hidden on the ME and map. I am wondering if there is a way to bypass so that nothing is hidden. I am not asking so that i can cheat!! I am trying to be proactive and fix a couple of mission bugs but the things are hidden so I can't fix them! (mostly simple stuff like moving AI parkings spaces and start times, etc.) So, yes, is there a way to bypass the hidden-ness?:)
  12. The A-10A's had similar autopilot functionality of the C's. They weren't all hand flown. The C still doesn't exactly have a true autopilot anyway!
  13. I offered my impression which is what this thread is for, hotshot. Like I said Im very impressed with the stick. But not so much with the throttles. The throttle base feels very solid but not the throttles themselves. I went to that store specifically because they had a display WH so that I could form an impression before plunking down 500 bucks on something that seems to be experiencing a few technical difficulties. I'm not hating on it at all as I don't own it. It was a very simple first impression. Thank you for debunking my post. You are very clever.
  14. I'm on the fence about getting one also. I saw one on display at a store. The stick felt fantastic. It was dense and felt indestructible. Much better that X52. But I was surprised how flimsy the throttles felt. There was a lot of play they felt cheap and fragile. And the buttons on the throttles felt like you could break them. I did not get to try it with any games, they were just anchored to a shelf. But, I'm still on the fence. VERY high premium!
