  1. I always loved just jumping into the Sitting Ducks mission in the A-10 so I tweaked it slightly to be more P-51 friendly. Included are versions that have you taking off from Senaki and navigating to the targets for a little added practice. Sitting Ducks - P51.miz Sitting Ducks - P51 - Runway Start.miz Sitting Ducks - P51 - Ramp Start.miz
  2. I may not be good with this whole propeller taildragger business but I'll be damned if I don't have my fun/exciting moments as a result it would seem. I need to hop in the A-10 for a bit so I can pretend like I know what I'm doing for a while. Another Surprise Landing... And a good ol' random takeoff fail.
  3. I figure there are tons of good material like this as crazy as this bird can be at times if you aren't careful. Plus maybe it's me but I'm just enjoying playing around any way I can think until some good combat missions start coming around to focus this learning towards. For example....
  4. Just a general WTF moments type of thread. And to start things off I present you the inspiration to this thread...
  5. A better way for a mission like this would be to tweak your loadout via the mission planner screen prior to launching the mission. This is just so you have more control over what you bring to the battle. Also, if the mission planner is showing you targets don't be afraid to add to, tweak, and change up your flight plan. The way I look at it the mission planner is your intel and I use it to plan out the mission and make some changes to make my life easier once I am up in the air. If the mission builders didn't want people doing this then they should of hid the hostile targets. Once you are in the air though if you are engaging anything at those altitudes then a targeting pod is generally a must because you are too high up for the Mk 1 to do you any good and as you can see the seeker head for mavericks isn't that great for spotting and identifying targets. Once you find a group of targets with the TGP then at that point you usually can fire on the target you selected with the pod and then you should be close enough to see and engage what else is nearby using the Mavs to select, lock on, and kill whats left without having to switch back to the TGP. That will allow you to get your missiles off a lot quicker and then go back to the TGP and find the next group to engage.
  6. Maybe it is me getting better but Mavericks seem easier to aim with the new patch as well. I am now able to just use my TGP for finding targets in an area then just using mavs to actually select the targets and launch without having to switch to the TGP and targeting a new vehicle each time.
  7. Then you should actually already be patched to 1.1.0.7
  8. We should be okay as long as ED is full of sinners, tomorrow is only supposed to be the rapture so we have 155 days left for them to patch it and to enjoy some cockpit shadows. I suggest everyone here go out and sin tonight and we'll have a blast these final months
  9. It explains it pretty well in one of the videos Genbrien posted. The sub munition detects a target with it's passive IR sensor and then uses the laser to profile the target. The laser it would seem helps to better profile cooler targets for engagement as well as to improve accuracy. As far killing stuff is concerned, each munition has a solid core projectile that is fired downward at high velocity onto hardened targets allowing it to kill tanks. Around it's solid core is a "fragmentation ring", basically it is a ring that fires shrapnel in a spread pattern to kill soft targets like people, trucks, ect. It is a "clean" munition unlike other types of CBU bombs. According to the datasheet Textron supplied on their website to ensure no unexploded munitions are left behind it incorporates 3 safety measures. The first and second measures are similar, if one of the sub munitions fails to find a target it will explode 8 seconds after release or 50ft above the ground. The third feature acts like time out device that will leave the device inert several minutes after hitting the ground.
  10. More interesting is look at the state of his gun, I wonder what happened there.
  11. Some people have been awesome enough to create and upload some tutorial videos online that help explain some of the finer details of operating the A-10. Here a few good places to start... http://www.youtube.com/user/ExcessiveHeadspace#p/u http://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt#p/u http://www.youtube.com/user/Tigerpwrr Also do some searching around the forums here. There are a lot of various guides, charts, manuals, and what not available for download that people have provided.
  12. And a synthetic aperture radar plus the ability to play a WSO online with people. This would be pure win.
  13. I tend to just fire up the CDU, EGI, CICU, and IFFCC as soon as my left generator comes online and it alows me to shave some time off my startup and not have to mess with ground power. I didn't realize that not being able to start these systems with APU power was a bug. I now too look forward to the day when this is fixed, if I can get in the air that much quicker and easier I won't complain.
  14. I did not and I am guessing that is my issue, kind of a duh type of moment.
  15. Here is a question that isn't explained in the manual forthright. Whenever I get data from the JTAC my red triangle disappears after a few minutes and (as far as I know at least) the only thing I do after receiving said data is use TMS Left Short to get rid of the messages that pop up on the MFCDs and then just hook and set as SPI with the TAD. If anyone has any insight to this it would greatly be appreciated as there have been quite a number of times after it has disappeared that I wish it was still back up due to looking at other things via the TGT pod and losing track of where the target is or doing something dumb like accidentally resetting the SPI to the WP or what have you. By the way this experience has at least taught me that mark points are awesome.
  16. China Hat Forward Long Everything you need really need is a part of the HOTAS setup (Pages 83-90 in the Manual) so I would learn it all to the point where you chant each button and switch and their functions in your sleep, make a cheat sheet or get one here ( http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69610 ). Also if you have enough room map each and every one of those to your HOTAS to make your life way easier if you haven't already.
  17. This has happened to me twice now. My solution has been a little unrealistic I know but I've just taken to finding parking spots off the beaten path a little bit like next to the prop planes or in front of a hardened shelter.
  18. Basically what this means is for the EAC to properly function you have to wait for the EGI to be aligned (T = 4.0 0.8 on the CDU), have the SAS switches engaged, and the CADC has to be functioning. There is no correlation between the EAC and either the TAD or the TGP.
  19. Another thing to keep in mind if I am not mistaken is that you should also always have your HUD set to DTS mode so that the IFFCC pulls the elevation information from the DTS rather than going by your steer point elevation. I can see how this would throw off your aim quite a bit.
