  2. Going through here I found an argument against a Dynamic Campaign system over scripted campaigns on the basis of immersion. I would have to respectfully disagree here on personal experience. With a scripted campaign I never really find myself getting into into whatever story I'm given, it's usually just stuff to skip through looking for information relevant to the mission at hand. However whenever I would find myself flying a campaign in Falcon I would always have a little story going in my head as things unfolded and as the forces in the theater shifted. Also, like howie87 stated if done right all the radio chatter of different flights really puts you in the theater and adds a whole other layer of immersion that's hard to beat.
  3. Dynamic campaign hands down. Right now lack of content in the way of missions is one of DCS' biggest short comings, and while adding new missions and campaigns helps it does get old playing the same missions over and over again. With a dynamic campaign system in place thing like replay ability are no longer an issue. Players won't have to rely on other to get new mission to enjoy or be forced to fly a mission they created taking out much of the surprise of whats going on. Not only that but mission types. Want to fly SEAD? Do a fighter sweep? Take out an Airfield? Instead of searching trying to find a mission or building one from scratch just select that mission type in your campaign and go to town. It may take more time and work to setup something like this, but in the end it would save a lot of time and resources down the road I would think than trying to keep your customers happy by constantly having to build new missions and campaign stories throughout the lifespan of this great simulation.
  4. They did do a great job. I just finished flying the F-86 and MiG-15 in 1.5 tonight, finally putting them through their paces with the new version. I must say the flight models have improved immensely, I enjoyed both these modules a lot before but now I absolutely love them. You won't be disappointed Azazel buying the MiG, not at all.
  5. Here are my settings at the time of the incident.
  6. AI wingman in the Emergency CAS mission. I noticed it after he fired some rockets off, I don't know if it was like this at the start.
  7. I went with Vietnam because there are a lot of aircraft in that era that I would like to see. My personal short list would be the F-4 Phantom, the A-4 Skyhawk, and the A-1 Skyraider. Then there is the F-8, A-6, A-7, even the F-105 might be good fun. There are just so many great and iconic aircraft from that period I would like to get my hands on.
  8. A good way to implement a backseater would be to use a simple communication/command menu in line with comms. You could have commands for them to select targets on the radar call out visuals, ect. It would cool in a ACM situation to have an AI able to give regular updates bandit is now at 3 O'Clock or warning when someone gets on your tail. And if feasible implement a multilayer option allowing 2 humans in multiplayer to assume pilot/WSO role.

  10. I don't think Video cards or their drivers are the issue here. I'm rocking an Nvidia and updated to the latest driver that came out yesterday and it was still a no go on this issue. For some reason Windows 8 and DCS don't want to play nice anymore but I really do hope ED gets on this one stat especially with the Win 8 Launch right around the corner. Prior to 1.2.1 it hasn't been an issue at all and I've been using the Win 8 beta since it was first publicly released many months ago.
  11. Same here. I did the new intercept mission for the P-51 and after getting hosed and killed it worked like advertised and returned me to the summery screen and even logged my death. So I decided to go back for a little warthog action and after an awesome mission it crashed again upon exit.
  12. Well at this moment in time I really can't justify redoing my setup just to play a game, er sim :) so hopefully it gets fixed soon or I can figure something else out to do on my end. Thankfully I can still fly it's just my flights aren't logged and I have to restart DCS each time but it is better than nothing.
  13. I too am running Windows 8 consumer preview and I've tried all suggestions here with no go. I can fly all day long but when I exit a mission it crashes at 96% now. Here is the culprit according to Event Viewer Faulting application name: Launcher.exe_DCS, version: 1.2.1.6192, time stamp: 0x505235cc Faulting module name: lua-dxgui.dll, version: 1.2.1.6192, time stamp: 0x505235f9
  14. I've been having the exact same issue as well.
  15. There's a novel I read when a Mudhen driver in an exciting climax uses a Mav he still had after depleting the rest of his ammo to take out a Mig-23 (maybe a 27 it been a while). Based on that I've tried this myself a few times usually on helicopters with great success. I never though to try it with much else figuring it would be easy to spoof a Mav against a fixed wing target with some decent maneuverability. Maybe I should rethink that. Future MiG-21Bis drivers have been warned :)
  16. Actually this is a brilliant idea, or better yet both. You drop troops into the battlefield and your buddy comes in right behind you in the AC-130 and lays down support fire for them. That would be great fun.
  17. Am I the only one who is going to ask, whats with the big panel for that one lone switch on the left? It being overthere by it's lonesome makes me really want to flick it just to see what happens :p
  18. I think it would actually be a blast with the B-1B. 600knts at 60ft off the ground with that big bugger. A little like the F-15E only on steroids and protein shakes.
  19. I'm not concerned too much on this front. There will be enough people around here that I'm sure a number in depth and thorough reviews will be done before too long after each release for you to judge each ones individual merits. If any particular one has any major flaws I'm sure they will be revealed within hours of release if you are impatient for said reviews (anyone familiar with software and the internet knows how that goes).
  20. With the F-15E in the works who ever does this will truly make my life complete. I would love an F-4E so bad I can taste it (it tastes like exhaust and fear if your curious). A G model would be nice too so we can do SEAD in Big Ugly as well but for something that doesn't even remotely exist AFIK I'm not going to dream TOO big :p
  21. I was thinking about grabbing a copy of Lock On and buying FC2 just to play with some fast jets in at least some type of DCS like environment. I never got into Lock On/FC though because I can't stand having to map/remember a ton of key commands and the lack of immersion I felt as a result of not having an interactive cockpit. But I got to thinking about FC3 coming out and it's integration with DCS world and the whole "What Is DCS World" concept and put two and two together. I love you guys over at ED, I'm going to go find a copy of Lock On to be ready but I'm holding out for FC3 :) I suppose it would be really spectacular is all the FC3 Aircraft were to A-10C and KA-50 Standards but maybe that thinking is a little too wishful, lol. As a side note I do apologize if this has been brought forth before and if so have fun giving me a hard time about it
  22. They should do the train one but fail to mention the combat simulator part so then some poor guy goes to see what multiplayer is all about and is like WTF when somebody hoses down his train with GAU 8 rounds, lol.
  23. Just look at this and imagine... http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/06/john-carmack-is-making-a-virtual-reality-headset-500-kits-available-soon-video-interview-inside/
  24. All that is really telling you it would seem is how much destructive power a gun has per burst of fire. For example: If you have a gun with a smaller round and a lower muzzle velocity but a really high rate of fire potentially it's "Lethality", or amount of potential damage, could be higher than a gun with bigger faster round because you are putting more of them on target. That's what this formula takes into account. If you really wanted to you could even create something along the same lines with this convergence debate, for example to me it would almost seem better to have your rounds more concentrated at a longer range to take into account energy loss over distance. If you are hitting your target when he is 500 ft away 1 round is going to do more damage than that single round would do if the target was 500 yards out, so at 500 yards I want more bullets hitting a single point to take that into account.
  25. In all fairness it is by no means the same version that will be shipped but I've been using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview as my primary OS now for a while. This includes all my gaming including DCS and everything runs just as well as in my Windows 7 install. If there was a performance drop it's been so small as to not be noticeable, plus drivers will only improve from here and ect...
