Sabre, Just restarted the BFT campaign because it has been about 2 years since I have flown the A-10C and wanted to get competent with it again. A couple things in the 3rd mission, which is the engine shutdown one. 1) Trigger for the hold short line is well past the hold short line. You have to taxi to about 25 feet or so short of the actual runway before the instructor tells you to go through your pre-takeoff checks and contact the tower. In addition, if you stop at the hold short line the tower will not respond to you for TO clearance. I guess it's possible this may be a Batumi thing and not campaign related, but if you stop at the hold short line you will fail the mission. And being a RW pilot, it's really hard for me to taxi past a hold short line without clearance 2) On the turn to 060 degrees at 6000 feet, when you roll out the sun is right in your face and it's so bright that the HUD can't be read at all. This requires you to immediately transition to the steam gauges, which takes a little getting used to. 3) I think the trigger point for the landing zone is incorrect. I flew the mission 11 times, trying to get a 100%, and I landed from about 20 feet into the runway to about 800 feet down the runway, hitting just about every 50-75 feet in different attempts, and every time I was told I missed the touchdown zone. Each time I was within 10 feet or so of centerline as well. 4) And not related to the campaign at all, after all the updates of the A-10C when I get into it on the ramp there are a LOT of switches that are already on, such as the O2, fuel pumps, engine generators, and a few others. Do you know of any way to have them all be off like they are supposed to be after a complete shutdown? atrdriver

[IN PROGRESS] Training Missions
atrcaptainjohn replied to atrcaptainjohn's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
True, but flying in VR it's kind of a pain to pause, ALT-TAB out of the VR window, read something in Adobe Reader, then ALT-TAB back to the sim. -
[IN PROGRESS] Training Missions
atrcaptainjohn replied to atrcaptainjohn's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
OK, thanks guys. I have been watching the Wags videos, it's just easier for me to be doing something as it's being explained rather than watch something, taking notes, then starting the sim and trying to replicate it. -
Are there going to be training missions for the new version to introduce the Helmet Cueing and other new features? Was looking forward to starting to get up to speed today but no training missions in my menu. I fact, in the training menu the aircraft doesn't even show up.
-
OK, question. I have done all that, and I hear my tanker call on station. But he still doesn't show up on the COMMS menu, all I have is ATC and EXIT. Also, I can't get his TACAN to work. I have that triggered right under the orbit on the second of the 3 waypoints. Any ideas, I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure this out. Thanks :)

A-10C Tactical Training Qualification Campaign
atrcaptainjohn replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in A-10C TTQ Campaign
HELP! I built a new rig, and installed DCS. both OB and stable on Drive Y. This is happening in OpenBeta, but I haven't tried on stable. I coped the missions from all the training campaigns to my saved games folder so I could access them, as that folder is on drive X. But when I try to load a mission for practice it shows as loading then immediately goes to the after mission screen and says that I crashed. I never even get to the cockpit screen. On the timeline it all happens in about 5 seconds elapsed mission time. I attempted about 10 missions from 2 different campaigns and it does it every time. What did I do wrong? The other missions that I have in the saved games folder work fine, this appears to only be happening with the mission folders from the campaigns. Please help!! :) -
Stupid question time :) I'm considering getting VIACOM to go along with VA. The question is can I still use it to control aspects of the aircraft, like the gear or tailhook? Or is VIACOM used exclusively for radio type use? Thanks :)

Changing Drives when selecting Missions
atrcaptainjohn replied to atrcaptainjohn's topic in General Bugs
What I can't figure out is that my previous install, which I wiped out last week to build the new rig, allowed me to change drives with no problem. I can't figure out why it worked then but not now. Maybe I will put in a couple of symbilic links to tie them all together. The only reason it's an issue is I go back and forth between my own missions and ones that are practice missions for campaigns that are installed in the main program folders. -
Changing Drives when selecting Missions
atrcaptainjohn replied to atrcaptainjohn's topic in General Bugs
I have that option under the mission editor, but not from the mission menu when I am trying to select a mission to fly. And I have tried checking it under the mission editor and I still can't access a different drive when trying to select a mission to fly. -
I just rebuilt my rig, and re-installed 2.5 Open Beta on the same SSD where it had been before, in this case it is drive Y. In my previous install I was able to change drives when selecting a mission, as it normally started in the saved games folder, which is my rig is on Drive X. That way I could select a practice mission from a campaign what was installed in the game folders on drive Y, or go back to the saved game folder. After the re-install I am not able to select a drive, no matter how many times I double click on the .. at the top of the folder structure. Is there a way to get this back to where I can see a drive to select? I know that I can copy the missions over to the saved games folder, but I didn't have to do this a week ago before the re-install. Thanks.

A-10C Tactical Training Qualification Campaign
atrcaptainjohn replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in A-10C TTQ Campaign
I can't find any wingman options in the radio. The only one I have is under the F10 menu and it normally the only choice there is "Copy" for "FENCE IN/OUT". But I agree, I don't think I trust them :) -

Sabre, got a question for you. I'm getting to rebuild my rig, and I will have to re-install everything. I would prefer to not lose my progress in the 3 training campaigns. What files do I have to copy over to the new install that would keep me where I am as far as the campaigns go? Also, just an aside. I TAC16, the Night Deep Interdiction mission, I had completed the bomb run, and the AAR, and was returning to land. I was on downwind, just about to turn for the runway, and my wingman flew into me, causing me to crash. I didn't really believe that it had happened, so I looked at the TacView file, and that is indeed what happened. He normally closely misses me as he breaks away. Am I doing something wrong to have him get that close when he breaks? I am flying a left downwind for RWY 13. -
A-10C Tactical Training Qualification Campaign
atrcaptainjohn replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in A-10C TTQ Campaign
Tacview did indeed help, and I was able to pass the mission. It also helped that I completed the bomb runs on the infantry with a much higher dive angle than I was using. This, I think, prevented the blue on blue. Now a question about mission 15. When I set up my orbit around IP EDSEL and set my steerpoint to TARGET 1, then slave the TGP to it, I can't find the targets to save my life. I changed the elevation of TARGET 1 to 1800, because in the mission it is set at 13800, and the TGP points over the hills. I figured setting it to 1800 would allow me to find the vehicles, but all I can see with the TGP is trees. Is there another way to acquire the target with the TGP so I can set a mark point that I can bomb off of? -

Not to be too obtuse, but how do I look at the flight in tacview? And does it work if I end the mission without landing? Because when I'm flying the practice mission when it tells me I screwed up I normally just quit it right then and restart it. Also, on the bomb run I am normally flying west to east, perpendicular to the line of troops. That is within the leading range the FAC wants and I figured it gave me a better chance to drop in the middle of the red forces. -
A-10C Tactical Training Qualification Campaign
atrcaptainjohn replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in A-10C TTQ Campaign
Hey guys, I'm having a problem with mission 13, the danger close tasking. I have been running the practice mission for almost a month, and keep screwing up. I am able to kill the first 2 BMPs with guns, then the moving BMP, usually with either an AGM-65D or guns. Then I get to the infantry he wants me to take out with the MK-82. I drop and normally kill 2 or 3 units, and the FAC says "re-attack authorized". Then when I'm setting up for a second pass, normally about 1-2 minutes after the first pass, I get told "blue on blue" and to terminate. This has been happening forever, and it's really getting frustrating. What am I doing wrong? I would think that if I missed my drop it would terminate immediately, not a couple of minutes after the drop. Please help, I would really like to complete this campaign. Thanks :) -
I wish I had read this thread before I attempted the mission. I joined on the FE early, we circled about 4 times, made the push, and, me flying almost perfect trail, hit the first WP too early, and then he terminated because I was too high. I guess I will ignore flying formation once he has pushed. One more thing, the DTOT for the WPs are not what is in the briefing. Are people changing them in the CDU before takeoff, or going with what loads with the mission?

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. I finally figured out what was going on, and I will go over it here just on the off chance that it helps someone else. Long story short, the USB hub that the throttle and stick were plugged into apparently wasn't passing all the necessary info through them. I attempted to update the firmware with the utility, and it was reporting that I had firmware rev 0 on both, which obviously wasn't right. I swapped out the hub and it started reporting correctly, and allowed me up update the firmware. The funny thing was that both the stick and throttle were working perfectly inside the sim. Oh well, learn something every day :) Again, thanks for the replies!

Hi guys. I am trying to get TARGET to work, and it will not start. I keep getting an error message saying that the Target Script Editor is open and they can't run at the same time. But it isn't open. I can't even check my firmware version, because I can't open TARGET. This happens in both my Win7 and Win10 installs. I need to figure out my firmware because I just got my new Hornet grip. And I'd like to run TARGET so I can run the scripts that I found on here. Please help, I have a feeling that I'm not going to hear from Thrustmaster for a while. Thanks :)

I will try that as well. Can you do that from the main selection screen or do you have to wait until a mission loads?

Warthog controls are messed up
atrcaptainjohn replied to Ryback's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I'm having an issue selecting the Right MFD as SOI using the Coolie Switch Right command. The left one and HUD work fine, but when I hit right long nothing happens. I have verified that the switch is sending the signal, and it appears to be mapped correctly in the controls menu. Am I missing something? -
That may have been the issue. I always left the Oculus Program at normal size on the screen. Today I minimized it before I started DCS, and turned off the Windows Button, and was able to fly several training missions without ussie. Thanks :)
-
Actually I tried that when I first started and it was driving me nuts having to reach for the throttle and stick to hit a button. Then again, if I can't figure out what is happening I may have to go back to it. It might work better once I start flying missions, but for the training flights not so much :)

No, disabling USB sleep in Win10- was the 1st thing I did when I set it up. My rig runs Win7 as it's main OS, and I installed Win10 on a separate SSD along with DCS World and the VR software. That is basically the only thing that is on that SSD. So when I want to use DCS I have to reboot into Win10, and when I'm done I go back to 7. Where is DCS repair? I have never had to use it. I am not using a Steam edition.

If I do this, a) how do I control it, and b) can I still use the left and right buttons to manipulate the switches and dials?
