In reference to the Ka-50, the 'funnel' is a maneuver in which the helicopter circles the target while continuously pointing its nose at it, supposedly allowing for target suppression while making the helicopter itself a difficult target to hit. In reality, it is much like the Cobra with the Sukhoi/MiG fighters - more a demonstration of aircraft capabilities than a useful combat exercise.
For a rather lame example of it, you can see this:

But, although it doesn't include a funnel, a much better video of the chopper's abilities is here:

Nice life-like texturing on that "Western-made hardware" .....wouldn't you say Evil? ;) .
Heh, better be careful with that winking - leafer might show up here and threaten to burn off your eye brows! :)
As for the texturing, my favorite detail is the tanker's footprints on BAURIS'es LeClerc.

All ED artists, news flash:
My country has just aquired 37 LeopardII-A6's, they absolutely need to be ingame. I weep for those T-90's :D
http://www.forum.lockon.ru/showpost.php?p=302463&postcount=89
P.S. Currently, there is no T-90 model in LO (or in development, AFAIK). The new tank models include the T-55, T-72BM, T-80, M1A2 and LeClerc - all beautifully done.

Hmmm, ok now we can fly around in a passenger aircraft and get shot down by noobs! Well at least ED is going to make a bunch of FSX owners that cant fly it on their system happy. I still dont understand why one civilian aircraft is making it in to the sim when i'm sure that if a request was put out for more US aircraft, to be modeled as a flyable to even out the unbalanced sides here in aircraft, hell I would be happy with the f-16, f-4, or at least a helo of some us side. Just my .02. Hope you all enjoy flying it in the game, Hey why dont someone start a formation flying team with the aircraft.
Out,
Cinch
Round 2?
There will not be a flyable Yak in Lock On. The guy just made a third-party 3D model. I can't speak for ED's internal experiments and other potential projects (they had a "flyable" Shilka too at some point), but this has no relevance to the game's flyables.

As a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to start with the assumption that there is no such thing as a 'simple fix'. Changing smoke to anything more than a purely graphical effect would require making into a calculated object to be recognized, analyzed and reacted to by the AI. There is nothing simple about any of that, at least not in the Lock On engine.
Having said that, I don't believe ED has made any final announcements about the possibility of adding this feature. As mentioned before, the AI scripts are undergoing some revisions, but the final extent of these is still to be determined.

In most cases when we choose to discuss the project on the forum, we don't have specific permission to do so. So we have to be very conscious of our words. This is in part because of the NDA, but more importantly, because the project is still in development and if the Devs aren't willing (or able) to discuss specific features, it probably isn't our place to do so, either. Please don't misunderstand our endless winks and hints as self-gratification at your expense. Well, not entirely anyway. :)
P.S. I was winking at my poor 'fiscal year' joke.
-
I need to know so I can squeeze it in for my budget...
So, are we talking about the fiscal year here? In that case, I would recommend you plan it for the next year's budget. ;)

Also, a suggestion forum would be nice.

From the descriptions, it appears the item under the port intake is the MAWS lower hemisphere sensor. The upper hemisphere sensor can be seen just aft of the cockpit. The device on the starboard intake is an EO targeting sensor. The small sensors on the wingtips are part of the laser warning system.

Nice photos!

ED is a Russian developer, so their target audience likes Russian aircraft...
While this is a common assumption on the Western forums, it isn't actually true. The money to be made on the Russian market is practically negligible compared to the West. Neither ED's choices of flyable aircraft, nor their unfortunately misperceived bias toward their combat capabilities, has much to do with the Russian market.

I could see the talk around the dev meeting when Lock on was born......
I'm not purview to the details, but AFAIK Lock On was born in a publisher meeting at Ubisoft. Same place the inclusion of the F-15 into the project was conceived, by the way.
Prior to Ubisoft's buying the project, there was an add-on project to Flanker 2.5, dubbed 'Flanker: Attack' at the time, which was to feature - you guessed it - the Su-25T, with the A-10 and the Ka-50 as potential add-ons.

Andrew's movies are always thoughtfully planned, which makes them the best IMO. Execution is more a matter of practice and available time. :)

Actually ED has been moving toward more user access since the introduction of LUA scripts into the code. This has been a conscious effort on their part and will only grow with time. Although Black Shark will increase LUA access even more, there are still general limitations arising from the Lock On engine. In future projects, a more open architecture will be a design goal from the beginning.

Great post MBot, as usual.
While ED aims for a very powerful and flexible tool with the new editor, the first priority is to ensure its backward compatability with the current editor and AI. Everything else comes after and depends on time available before release. Considering a new ME has not been officially added to the LOBS feature list yet, I would expect most of its advanced features only in the "next project".
-
ED knows - the issue has been discussed before. While they mentioned that simple resource management is planned for helicopter FARPs, it wasn't clear if the same functions could be pulled onto airbases due to the current code's limitations.
-
Have they actually flown together yet.
Not sure, but I have this pic...
It was sent to me over MSN, so I don't know the story behind it, if there is any at all.

If it has been fixed then it must be much longer. In this movie there were missing essential things:
- no APU operation- the APU needs to be started, then left running for at least 1 min to get optimal temperature, then both engines start-up with 1 min cooling pause between them and finaly 1 min cooling before shut it down;
- unrealistic main engines operation- in this movie you start both engines simultaneously which is absolutely impossible IRL. Then you turn on AC generators while at idle power-errrrrr! In order to have generators online rotor RPM must be above 85% which means AUTO mode for both engines.
- unrealistic elecrical system operation- no rectifiers on, inverters must be in manual before having generators on and after that you switch inverters to AUTO; later when you shut engines down everything is reverse- rectifiers off, inverters to MAIN, generators off, engines control levers from AUTO to IDLE;
Once all of the systems and sub-systems are finalized, I will lobby for a new start-up video dedicated to you, AirTito. :D

No, there haven't been any changes to the atmospheric effects and, to the best of my knowledge, no specific plans to include them have been mentioned.
