Trident, that was the most beautifuly self-answered set of questions I've ever seen. In other words, you're right. On all counts... :D

But, as you can see from the above photo link, it was repaired .
Something that always baffled me - why the hell isn't there something in the plane to prevent that? I remember the first time I sat in the Super Frog and accidentally brushed my fingers across the "G" key - whoops, down you go along with the gear. Seriously, what's with that?
It is per design - apparently Russian aircraft designers considered this risk to be the lesser of two evils - i.e. that a device to prevent it could cause the gear to get stuck in the down position after take-off, which in turn would be more dangerous than raising it by accident while on the ground....that's the explanation anyway .
Actually the explanation I've come across is that it is better to accidently raise the gear while parked or taxing, than to realize that the gear lever is up as the above-mentioned safety device clears the gear for retraction when the aircraft weight is lifted by the wings as you're speeding down the runway on take-off - as happened here:

I think the initial euforia will later disapear and we will be hit by a simple fact:
That none of the work so far is serious nor will it have any impact on the game and the only thing we could ever hope is to replace old models that we wont even notice the difference when inside the pit anyway.
Realy big MODs are rare in the LOck on comunity and we risk never to take much advantage of these tools. Also theres an awkward resistence of this community suport MODer's or any of their projects.
The flying saucer and the mirage jets wont have any concrete functionality and have no part in the game play aside from cute experiments to break the boredom. Without any pit making tool we realy wont advance much. I think I have hyped it a bit too much with this thread. Sorry guys. :(
I think thats a rather pessimistic view. People now have a chance to directly contribute to and influence the game. Modding has always been about the gratification of adding a personal creation into a publicly admired forum. With these tools, people with an interest in spending time and effort in creating 3D models now have a much expanded breadth of potential. I don't know that its a revolution, but it is an evolution in user participation and involvement. I think you're right in that the euphoria will settle quite soon, but IMO the "real" modders will only begin to fully utilize these tools then, when we understand just what can and cannot be feasibly done.

Where did Alfa say anything about the AI? :D

Erdem, I think Alfa understands your point. To understand his, maybe you need to read between the lines.
Maybe.

Not only that, but another wire snapped on the very following landing, damaging another Su-33.

Deep breath guys...
Unfortunately, these photos don't prove much in teh way of combat capability, either. Unless you read into the images.
Reading through the airforce.ru forum, where the original images came from, I see that these were flights to and from different airbases, forming up the combat-ready group for the G-8 summit.
The FACT is that these pictures prove that the -T can be carried on BOTH center pylons. We still don't know if it can be fired from them, or that it can be fired before seeker lock. At least not based on these pictures, which indeed appear to be transport shots as the planes are leaving from/arriving to their home bases.
It certainly was an interesting surpize though.

I might be wrong, but I believe the general thought was that the R-27T/TE could only be carried on the inner-most wing pylons for the Su-27.
Nope...

BTW, the lines in the canopy are some kind of antenna, apparently. You'll find them on most MiG-29M based Fulcrums.
Correct.

in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2

Sure. LOMAC was originally a Ubisoft product which attempted to model a series of contemporary jet combat aircraft, but unlike previous such simulations, provide each with its own appropriate characteristics. Working independently, ED is operating on a very different philosophy. Starting with 1.1 (and much more so with 1.2), they are making a simulation of a single aircraft to the point where you could actually train pilots on it (my personal opinion). Lock On is a platform they're using in developing their next generation flight sim. Its unfortunate if the Ka-50 is not to your liking, but in truth its development history dates further back than most of us even imagine. Much like the development of the next generation sim is further along than most of us even imagine...
I, like all other testers who tend to discuss the matter on the boards, sympathize with many points raised here. And, like them, I'd propose that if you enjoy Lock On today you will only enjoy it more with 1.2, regardless of your feelings toward helicopters. ED is not there to answer and explain every decision made in development. If you really believe they do not take user input into account and are simply out to steal your cash, you're not reading the same forum that I am...
