  3. Hi guys, I bought DCS a-10 when it originally came out but didn't play it much, mainly due to all the technical bugs and what not. Over time they got fixed, but then I had an issue where I could put deadzones in my controls or my game would CTD when i tried to save the controls. Well i'm back. Because I recently got trackir for BMS (it was pretty much impossible to play without it), and after starting to read Warthog by William Strongwood, my interest in the hog has peaked again. Looking to get back in. I have a few questions: 1. Can anyone help me with some suggestions for setting up my logitech extreme 3d pro? I only want to map essential controls. I remember seeing a thread when DCS first came out with a profile, but it was pretty crappy. 2. Is the JTAC still broken in multiplayer? 3. Are the trees still messed up? 4. What's the status on the patch?
  4. tl;dr version: The A-10 is a bitch to fly, you will have to constantly fight the stick. Just get used to it. It's definitely not an f-16.
  5. We should perhaps focus on trying to figure that out. This is my first DCS game, so I don't know ANYTHING about modding. Were any custom voices added to lockon or blackshark?
  6. Is there anyway to make custom voice sets? To replace or add to the default text to speech voice? I'm not talking about pre-recorded, scripted voices, but the voice set which does all procedural coms.

I once emailed Keith Rosenkranz (author of vipers in the storm and Gulf War veteran with 30 combat missions under his belt in an f-16) and asked him if he ever played Falcon or knew anyone that played Falcon. He said he doesn't play it but knows of it and is highly impressed by its realism. He also mentioned he worked on a Falcon project at one point (after Allied Force) but the funding got cut and it was canceled. I'd expect more combat pilots to fly games like Falcon, considering I know literally dozens of infantry and ground pounder types who play ARMA and Steel Beasts.

    No mention of the serious technical problems A-10 has at this time. Just check the "crash" forum for all the fun issues people are having. A-10 seems to be pretty much in a $50 open beta right now.
  10. I am looking to get some sort of IR head movement solution after realizing that the free look features suck in DCS A-10. It's basically impossible to keep SA while having to constantly worry about manually zooming in to various cockpit areas. So, does anyone use facetrack? I heard some initial reports that it was buggy but that it apparently was smoothed out in later versions? Does anyone know how it compares to freetrack? I am trying to avoid spending a huge amount of money on something like Track IR.
  11. Typical of the campaigns, they are quite buggy. Best for just messing around.
  12. Im surprised they even modeled the SA-10 in A-10 as a threat. In reality an a-10 would immediately die after being locked by an SA-10, the more maneuverable F-16s, F-18s and F-22s barely have a chance of escaping SA-10 generation systems, and their max engagement range is 200 miles, at about 90,000 feet. The A-10, rarely above 20,000, rarely going faster than 250, and unable to make hard G breaks to defeat incoming missiles is a sitting duck to most SAM syhstems, which is why there is so much suspicion that they would never succeed in a high threat environment (i.e. war against Russia/China/India/other super power). Basically whatever can threaten an attack helicopter threatens an A-10.
  13. Yeah, that's another issue I have with it. I have been CTDing frequently since the latest patch. So infuriating to crash right when you are about to get into a mission.

You guys are really underestimating the power of SAMs. In the military analysis field, the A-10 is a suspect - there is a good argument to support that it would never operate effectively in a high threat environment. Mainly because it can't defeat SAMs (not to mention it cant defend itself from fixed wing threats). A SAM is basically a death sentence for an A-10 - SAMs from the 1960s and 1970s are still a major threat to F-16s (google "SAMs over baghdad to see F-16s being shot down by SA-2s during the gulf war), and being engaged by an SA-10 is essentially a death sentence at ranges of 150+ miles, and 50+ meters. If an old SAM like an SA-2 is still a threat to an F-16, which is extremely more maneuverable and faster than an A-10, that's saying something. Even at full speed an A-10 would have real trouble defending any SAM system outside of MANPADs. I personally think that the SAM lethality is modeled properly in A-10.
  15. Fanboy propaganda. If what you said is true, it still doesn't excuse not making the PRE-EXISTING LINEAR campaign multiplayer compatible. How much work would it have taken for the campaigns to be given more player slots? At no point did I say I expected a DC, nor did I ever bring up the DC, I was referring to Falcon's multiplayer support - you just decided to go on a soapbox for no reason.
  16. Well the only reason I got this game is for MP - I come from a Falcon 4 Allied Force background, and in comparison that 10 year old game is clearly superior. Pretty sad that they couldn't be bothered to make more than 1 playable slot in the campaign. How hard can it be? My post will hopefully help some people who were considering buying the game save their money - because I feel like I wasted $60. Maybe they will patch in some better multiplayer support, but a maybe isn't worth $60. My plan was to play multiplayer with my Falcon 4 buddies, and even if there was MP content at this time, which there isn't - constant CTDs would still be an issue. We tried to do a co-op yesterday and all of us were CTDing (on the latest patch I might add), so we basically ragequit and played Allied Force instead.
  17. I recently bought A-10. Heres my current concerns: 1. No multiplayer support for the campaign 2. Poor quality multiplayer missions 3. Small selection of multiplayer missions - only six in total, and only 2 which support more than 2 players, absurd. 4. Frequent CTDs 5. Sudden framerate drops Good things: 1. Flawless simulation 2. Cool features.
  18. F-18 or F-16 please. Prefer F-16.
