  1. I'd say they are either my wings, or my landing gear - neither accompanied my plane down the runway. I guess my rate of descent and ground speed were a little high.
  2. Here's one in an F15, although I'll admit it was the landing that torn the wings off.
  3. I completed the mission by coming in high, and cutting the throttle on the attack run. Used the TV to find to target. Use plenty of flares and keep the throttle as low as possible (and of course the IR jammer). After firing, turn out to the right into the adjacent valley, stay off the throttle and drop flares at regular intervals. I really think the trick was keeping the throttle low, which requires a good amount of energy(altitude). If you're running at full throttle, IR jamming rarely seems to spoof a missle. After you're in the clear, climb up and repeat. I think I did this before the 1.11 patch, but i recall playing the mission quite a bit before I got through. As for the wingman, I leave him on his own, maybe he's a good decoy...
  4. I had difficultly at first, but I think learning how to get through this one teaches some important skills that come in handy in most of the rest. What I did was to start high and fast as sixer mentioned (but I used the planned route), turn on the ir jammer, and begin the attack approach. As you get into missle range, throttle all the way back and start pumping flares( of which the 25t has an amazing number). After firing continue using your altitude for speed to make your escape. Turn out to the right, keep dropping flares and keep the throttle use limited and stay low(very low) until you're in the cover of the adjacent valley. Throttle up, climb and repeat.
  5. I've found that if the Mig is carrying R-77's (?, the ones with the grate like fins), that can also impact performance. From looking at the model in game, it appears that the grates in the fins are actually modelled, rather than just a texture. Some time back I played around with replacing the R-77 model with a different one - I think it was the 120. I saw a nice performace change. The other issue with the R-77 model that I found, distance (zooming out) did not improve the performance, only looking away.
  6. I was attempting to tweak my graphic settings to improve framerates and was not succeeding very well. If I looked in one direction, the frame rate always dropped, even if there was nothing but a hill. After some fiddling I began to suspect the MIG was causing my troubles. So I set up a FBP mission with 4 MIG 29S and watched my framerate plummet. A little further fiddling, and it would seem to the R-77 missle was the real culprit. Not that the MIG model didn't have its effect, but the missle was way worse(I'm guessing that its the way the tail fins are modeled - too many objects.). Even if I zoomed way out, so the planes were small dots, there was no increase in frame rate (I zoomed out from underneath so that only sky was being rendered in the background). Do the same with a Su-33, Su27, or F-15 and after a certain distance frame rates jump up. Its as if the missle model never clips(?), its always rendered (at full quality) regardless of distance and line of sight. I did this at a variety of graphics settings to the same effect. So, a little more digging and I found the R-77.lom file which seems to be the model. I found that you can replace it with a different model file (like the 120) which improved my performance. You can delete it altogether, the missle still works in game, its just not visible. So my question is, does anyone know of any ill effect to doing this, or is there a better way to improve rendering performance of models like this? Also, are there other models that could be replaced to improve performance? Thanks System: AMD XP2600(333fsb) 1GB RAM ATI 9600XT 5.6 Cat drivers.
