  1. Ah... thanks much. Off to pre-purchase :D
  2. I see a release date of Sept 2012 but see FC 3 as a "prepurchase" on the DCS site. Has it been released? If not..when might it? Thanks
  3. I haven't read every reply and I'm sure this has been covered, but I'll give my 2 cents. First, don't handicap yourself right off the bat. Get a HOTAS setup. If you don't want that type of commitment.. I'd reconsider. Other than that.. love to learn. This is an on-going effort that requires motivation to learn. Though, It's extremely rewarding. Every day I experience incremental achievements through learning the sim and it's something that I'll probably play for years. In terms of gaming, it's the biggest bang for the buck I've gotten since Falcon 4.0 over a decade ago (which I played off and on for said 10 years)
  4. To the OP, congrats! I get incremental victories almost everyday. Good feelings :D The ramp start was a little overwhelming for me at first. Once you start working on it you'll find it becomes almost simple, 2nd nature. Just print out the startup procedure from Derelor (it's what i use) http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=51701&d=1306005830 His original post with all check lists http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73178&highlight=derelor
  5. funny, I couldn't read "which values to change" till I click drag highlighted it.
  6. This is how great video game (sim) companies are born. Support it post release and make sure it's right before you release patches. Kudos DCS! :D
  7. Graphics cards won't be a factor, it will be all CPU and Memory as it will only do the number crunching..
  8. Very nice :D Do you have TrackIR yet? I watched vids on youtube with pilots looking around and got that right away. Thus far I've gotten the game, TrackIR 5, another 9800 GTX+ to SLI and going to buy another couple gigs of ram.... all to have a more enjoyable experience to play this game. Worth every cent though
  9. Ah.. I see. I hadn't really thought it was detectable. That makes sense :D Thanks.
  10. In my attempt to satisfy my curiosity with a question I came across this thread. Thought I'd just add on to it with my question. Which is; what is the reason behind setting a laser time in seconds? Why doesn't auto laser paint the target and keep it lit till the bomb lands? Why activate 10 or 15 seconds before impact? Seems to me that if the target was lit up the entire time the bomb could make incremental changes all the way down to the target as needed.
  11. Actually, your ramp starts and reading the manual a good 1-2 punch till your stick comes in. Welcome aboard! Edit: I'd bookmark this as well http://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt Great instructional videos
  12. I'd read the manual while waiting for the stick :D
  13. Ah.. that's it, thanks. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll give FC 2 a whirl. I can always go back to Falcon if needed but doesn't sound like that will be needed
  14. Is this the official forum for FC 2? If so, why are there only about 3 non-stickied topics? Is the game dead.. or ..? I was thinking about picking this up. I want some Air to Air to go along with my Warthog action and I've been thinking about reinstalling Falcon 4.0 or getting FC 2. I'm tore. I found 2 squadrons I'm interested in trying to join. One plays A10-c & Falcon the other A10-c and FC 2. Anyone have Falcon 4.0 experience that can lend an opinion on FC 2? Also, I need to buy FC 1 and FC 2 in order to get FC 2 running, correct?
  15. Not sure that it is, but I guarantee you there are no degrees of color blind pilots in the US armed services. When I took my test the list of rating opportunities went to a short list.
  16. Those screen shots are pretty :D
  17. With the tutorials, getting up and running can be accomplished within a few days. But, like any deep sim, it's really the tip of the iceberg at that point.
  18. From the research I did prior to ordering; 20# is the min weight you want to print double sided to avoid "blead" from the other side. I ordered the 28# paper and it's very quality. It will stand up to many page turns, it's very much like text book thickness. I'll p.m. details to you. I'm fairly sure you can reference my order number for what I ordered and you'll be very happy.
  19. I know, there are threads out there but I want to get specific. I've been reborn with my flight sim addiction that began with Falcon 4.0 with my new love DCS A-10c Warthog. I'm looking for a virtual fighting squad that participates in DCS A-10c and a fixed wing air-to-air sim. I've got Falcon 4.0 but I'm willing to buy another game to fill in the "gap" that not having air-to-air in Warthog is leaving me. I'd like a squadron that uses english as the language, mature, active and hopefully sound in leader-ship and stable for long term participation.
  20. This thread needs to be stickied or something. Although, with continued work and improvements (that grey scale changes was like you were reading my mind). :D
  21. Yeah, I don't think you can go wrong with just walking into a print shop. I hate reading manuals on screen. I've got a laser printer which I've used to print Civilization and other thick manuals on which came out fine. Just 3 hole punch and put in a 3 ring binder. I just wanted a nice copy because I knew I'd be thumbing through it a crap ton. :D I live in a rural area with a limited variety of quality print places. I went online due to that.. but the $16 UPS charge wasn't cool. But.. it is 6 lbs.
  22. What the heck is that "Before Start Engine Start Before Taxi"?
  23. STEAM is the only way I'll buy a game. In fact, when I found out about this game after the PC Gamer review and found it wasn't sold via STEAM I was going to wait. Luckily I didn't have to wait long. Why STEAM? It's a highly stable company. I think Forbes magazine recently listed them as the most profitable company in the world per employee. Beating, yes, even Google. They're not going anywhere and that digital copy will be available to download for as long as I'll be playing games. Not saying DCS is going anywhere soon, especially with quality products like this, but I wouldn't buy a game from any other digital vendor. The game auto patches. Not a huge deal, but that depends on how often patches are released. I have a fairly extensive list of games on my HD and they're all up-to-date on patches and I haven't patched anything "manually" in a couple years. The only drawback I see would not being able to sell the game down the road as it's linked to your STEAM account. But, seriously, a game this qualty..when would you want to sell it?
