  1. ??? really, can't "opine" on anything? I think I will, if I like - you don't have to agree or like it - but I can say what I wish, non offensively of course. have a good day
  2. I don't think I agree with that. 75fps is the sweet spot and that is not impossible with todays machines and GPU's. A quick reading of the rift thread here shows people consistently getting 75fps using a variety of cards. I personally have two 660ti PE cards in SLI and routinely get 100+fps in the most graphics intensive games around. I expect a little judder using those in SLI mode but if you purchased gtx980 GPU just as a stand alone that would deliver. I agree resolution will continue to be the sore spot for most folks but as far as just the "immersion" factor you get from VR that alone will make it worthwhile to a lot of folks.
  3. If you want the ultimate in realism I'd get a new video card and an oculus rift.
  4. I don't know yet Cook - haven't had the chance to use my rift yet as I am currently hunkered down on Somalia. I'll be home in 4 weeks and the first thing i'll do is rush to my computer and get my rift out. I'm sure the wife will love that!
  5. Cook, are you running at 4.3 now or that was the stock speed? if it was, what did you O/C it to? I have an unlocked 3570k and am running at 4.5ghz now but am sure I could go higher if I wanted to play with voltages. It was just easy to get it stable at 4.5.
  6. OMG, I am salivating at the prospect of getting in a plane and taking off with my Rift! Mine's sitting home all alone in a box waiting so patiently for me to get there. Come on Dec18th!
  7. what's EDGE? I've seen it referenced a few times and can't figure out what you're referring to.
  8. good news, thank you for that info - I had a suspicion that it would work and although I was going to upgrade to the 970 or 980 I thought I would wait and see due to the high cost of those cards, especially the 980.
  9. what video card did you upgrade to? I just received my rift yesterday but unfortunately I will not be able to try it until I return home in December. I'm currently using 2 660ti-PE cards in SLI mode, hoping that does the job. If not, I have enough time to order a new card and have it installed before I return in December.
  10. Check out the detailed rift discussion on page 2 of this forum. Like you, I've been a long time DCS player but drifted out of the game but with the Rift (arriving Friday) I plan on getting back into this game as quickly as possible. There are detailed threads on all the issues with rift, how to get it going, workarounds, all that sort of thing, that I've been following with lust for the last several weeks. I'm sure you'll find the info you're looking for. Unfortunately for me altho the rift arrives this week i'll be out of country until December. I plan on spending the majority of my 3 weeks home sitting in my pit!
  11. sure, I've been in flight sims a long time. I've played a lot of IL-2, Cliffs of Dover, Rise of Flight, then just kind of settled in with DCS world as I like the realism. Outfitted my rig with thrustmaster a10 hotas setup (very nice), external MFP's, used to run a 3screen 3D setup but migrated those to an older build and replaced it with 52" LCD. I'm using the I-3570k, forget the mobo stuff off the top of my head tho. I'm currently out of country in Africa on a 3 month rotation and man do I miss my computer!
  12. well, when I built my rig I went for the bang - 32G ram, forget the exact specs now but at the time it was the fastest I could get, unlocked CPU that i'm running at 4.6ghz now as well as liquid cooling, SSD, etc so hopefully that will translate into a smooth experience. i'll be sure and let everyone know :) thx for the link as well, will check that out.
  13. I guess that would confirm then that it is an issue between rift & DCS. I'd really like to experience that live for speed at 250fps with the rift. What's the experience like with Live for Speed on the rift with that much FPS?
  14. Greetings all - longtime DCS player although I've not actively been playing it for a while but definitely getting back into it now that I've purchased my rift. I know that FPS is definitely the sweet spot for a great rift experience and I see everyone referring to the newer high end cards but I've built my own high end rig specifically for gaming that I have to believe will handle this. I can run literally any game on max settings at 1080P and attain frame rates exceeding 100 on complex games using overclocked msi-660ti-PE's in SLI mode. Does anyone have any experience with similar cards, or is there a thread where users are sharing their graphics info and results? Looking forward to getting back in the cockpit just as soon as my rift arrives. cheers
