  1. ??? really, can't "opine" on anything? I think I will, if I like - you don't have to agree or like it - but I can say what I wish, non offensively of course. have a good day
  2. I don't think I agree with that. 75fps is the sweet spot and that is not impossible with todays machines and GPU's. A quick reading of the rift thread here shows people consistently getting 75fps using a variety of cards. I personally have two 660ti PE cards in SLI and routinely get 100+fps in the most graphics intensive games around. I expect a little judder using those in SLI mode but if you purchased gtx980 GPU just as a stand alone that would deliver. I agree resolution will continue to be the sore spot for most folks but as far as just the "immersion" factor you get from VR that alone will make it worthwhile to a lot of folks.
  3. If you want the ultimate in realism I'd get a new video card and an oculus rift.
  4. I don't know yet Cook - haven't had the chance to use my rift yet as I am currently hunkered down on Somalia. I'll be home in 4 weeks and the first thing i'll do is rush to my computer and get my rift out. I'm sure the wife will love that!
  5. Cook, are you running at 4.3 now or that was the stock speed? if it was, what did you O/C it to? I have an unlocked 3570k and am running at 4.5ghz now but am sure I could go higher if I wanted to play with voltages. It was just easy to get it stable at 4.5.
  6. OMG, I am salivating at the prospect of getting in a plane and taking off with my Rift! Mine's sitting home all alone in a box waiting so patiently for me to get there. Come on Dec18th!
  7. what's EDGE? I've seen it referenced a few times and can't figure out what you're referring to.
  8. good news, thank you for that info - I had a suspicion that it would work and although I was going to upgrade to the 970 or 980 I thought I would wait and see due to the high cost of those cards, especially the 980.
  9. what video card did you upgrade to? I just received my rift yesterday but unfortunately I will not be able to try it until I return home in December. I'm currently using 2 660ti-PE cards in SLI mode, hoping that does the job. If not, I have enough time to order a new card and have it installed before I return in December.
  10. Check out the detailed rift discussion on page 2 of this forum. Like you, I've been a long time DCS player but drifted out of the game but with the Rift (arriving Friday) I plan on getting back into this game as quickly as possible. There are detailed threads on all the issues with rift, how to get it going, workarounds, all that sort of thing, that I've been following with lust for the last several weeks. I'm sure you'll find the info you're looking for. Unfortunately for me altho the rift arrives this week i'll be out of country until December. I plan on spending the majority of my 3 weeks home sitting in my pit!
  11. sure, I've been in flight sims a long time. I've played a lot of IL-2, Cliffs of Dover, Rise of Flight, then just kind of settled in with DCS world as I like the realism. Outfitted my rig with thrustmaster a10 hotas setup (very nice), external MFP's, used to run a 3screen 3D setup but migrated those to an older build and replaced it with 52" LCD. I'm using the I-3570k, forget the mobo stuff off the top of my head tho. I'm currently out of country in Africa on a 3 month rotation and man do I miss my computer!
  12. well, when I built my rig I went for the bang - 32G ram, forget the exact specs now but at the time it was the fastest I could get, unlocked CPU that i'm running at 4.6ghz now as well as liquid cooling, SSD, etc so hopefully that will translate into a smooth experience. i'll be sure and let everyone know :) thx for the link as well, will check that out.
  13. I guess that would confirm then that it is an issue between rift & DCS. I'd really like to experience that live for speed at 250fps with the rift. What's the experience like with Live for Speed on the rift with that much FPS?
  14. Greetings all - longtime DCS player although I've not actively been playing it for a while but definitely getting back into it now that I've purchased my rift. I know that FPS is definitely the sweet spot for a great rift experience and I see everyone referring to the newer high end cards but I've built my own high end rig specifically for gaming that I have to believe will handle this. I can run literally any game on max settings at 1080P and attain frame rates exceeding 100 on complex games using overclocked msi-660ti-PE's in SLI mode. Does anyone have any experience with similar cards, or is there a thread where users are sharing their graphics info and results? Looking forward to getting back in the cockpit just as soon as my rift arrives. cheers
  15. will do that as soon as i get home from work today - thanks!
  16. I did log into module manager but that was so i could try and find the version i had installed band i wasnt really looking for mods - so if i do log in, my purchased items should show there? if they do not, is it as simple as moving the contents of the entire original install into the DCS world folder or am i looking at an entire new install, plus all updates?
  17. quick question, which i think i know the answer to but before i go that route thought i'd run it by the experts here. I've purchased several of the DCS sims over the years and am now getting back into playing but it has been long enough that DCS world is now the platform that allows access to the various aircraft that have been purchased. I have stand alone versions of black shark, flaming cliffs, a10c, as well as p51 that is installed through DCS world. When i use the dcs world multiplayer option i do not have those aircraft as purchased or installed. I"m assuming that's because i did not install them into the eagle dynamics\dcs world folder? Is it possible to move the existing folders into that or do i need to do a complete reinstall for each mod? thanks in advance....
  18. thanks much for the prompt reply - i'll try that right now.
  19. Hi all, longtime DCS user but new to the mustang version. Short & sweet, I cannot seem to get my HOTAS configured. I've been through this before with warthog and sorted that out but for the life of me, I can't seem to get my stick to work correctly with the mustang. I tried importing my LUA files from warthog into p51 but they don't work. Does anyone have any experience with getting the Logitech g940 system configured, or perhaps, someone has a config file they could share? I put the .LUA files into the aircraft, default, joystick folder. thanks in advance!
  20. HI all, long time member here, with warthog, and now p51. I have a question re the resolution. I just built a new rig for gaming, win8, SSD, 3570k cpu @ 4.7g, MSI 660ti, etc, etc,....I have a 51" 1080P TV connected and wanted to change the resolution. In options it automatically provided a higher resolution, 38xx x1080, but when selected it doesn't work. From prior experience whenever resolution was incorrect the game would stop working, and that's what happened here. From my experience with warthog, using 3 25" monitors, I was able to change the config file to get wide screen. I think I've found the correct file to modify but was wondering if anyone might know what I could change it to, and confirm where I change it, so that I can get the most out of this massive display. thanks in advance!
  21. Sign me up Linden, I'll buy one! Even if it's just cardboard, I'll laminate it myself with whatever I find in the garage.
  22. hmmm, an interesting thread - I'm wondering if the g940 would be able to use just such a workaround?
  23. IMHO - I built a "gaming" rig....loaded it to the gills - my mistake; didn't buy an SSD - reading performance gains at Tom's Hardware webpage and an SSD increases performance drastically. If it weren't like getting blood from a stone I'd move everything over to an SSD. Guess I'll have to wait until I build my next machine.
  24. and how much of a PIA is it working with the program(s)? Is it pretty much plug & play; install it and create a profile and it works or does it require constant tweaking/attention? My time is limited enough as it is and adding another layer of complexity to the sim is not something I'd like to do. Like you said, your sim may never be done; I'm just getting started on trying to build some sort of replica and I can see how time consuming it is already.
