Nothing is wrong with caucasus - the region is not the point. Keep in mind - we are talking about a helicopter simulation and especially combat helos tend to fly very low ... sometimes only some feet above ground ... and slow ... the even hover in several situations. Seen from a fast mover with supersonic and an attitude of several tenthousand feets the "old fashined graphic" suits our needs - thats right - in fact I don't know any other simulation where "the sensation of flying" comes so close to the real thing as in LockOn. But now we are talking about a totaly different situation and if you plan to fly a heli like a plane you are in the wrong simulation ... What we need now is a much more detailed surrounding. Currently (I can only speak about the screenshots of course) there is a huge gap between the new groundvehicle models and the surrounding. It is ridiculous to see one of the new high detailed tanks standing in front of these paperboard like houses. The ground textures are good - seen from high above - but close to earth they reach in best case 1990th standard. The citys are all looking the same. The smoke is still not moving in the wind. There are to less colors. Everything looks steril. Still no infantry (Hind already had this in 1996 ...) The magic word is immersion - the current graphics will not transport this... We are not high in the clouds anymore ... we are moving dirt now ... Of course my system can not handle the terrain of my dream, Groove, but it can handle a much better than the current. Thats the point. Until yesterday the arguments for dropping the new trees and keeping the old graphics where compatibility to LockOn ... but now we get an standalone, a new simulation ... and thats the point where I expect significant improvements.

One of the arguments for the decision to change to a standalone BS is a "new terrain area". But I realy cant see a significant improvement ... except that there are some more trees.

So correct me if I am wrong ... We get a brandnew, shiny simulation with a well simulated damage model, avionic, cockpit, new excelent ground vehicles and and and ... And all this wonderfull new toys will be placed into the boring, old fashioned landscape we already have in LockOn? :doh:

But arneh's cockpit will be available in Q4 2007 ... When will Eds Apache be released ... when will even BS be on our harddisks? In germany we have a saying: "Lieber den Spatz in meiner Hand, als die Taube auf dem Dach..." ("rather the sparrow in my hand, than the pigeon on the rooftop...")

Did you use EECHAllMod? Its 547 MByte in size and installs every Update/Mod you want ...

Nice video... I wonder how a pilot can move (his body) in that way ... I always thought they are strapped very fast in their seats. Do they untighten the belts while flying? And, what are they shooting at in this video ... is it a real combat situation? It looks so real... .

Yes, very nice screens, very nice new models, everything is very nice since weeks, months and probably years soon. I am realy tired to see only beautifull screens all the time. And spare your "Wait, its worth" " It takes time" - all said a thousand times...

Yes, the forests where "blocks" with single trees around them. So you gut the "impression" of a forest. For me it worked and I used it often to play "cat and mouse" with the enemy helos - that was real fun :)

We are not talking about a "simple" flightsim anymore - we are talking about an upcoming helicopter-simulation. Tactics for an attack-helicopter are "slightly" different than for a fighterjet. Seen from a F16 trees are maybe "eyecandy", from an A10 only "obstacles", but for combat-helos they are important, because the pilots can hide behinde them, scan the area without been detected, the trees offer cover and so on... See the point? Trees, forests are important for a good helicopter simulation. But if they are not solid a lot of realism would be lost, because there is no advantage without a price in real life - no tactical advantage without the danger to collide. Wrong. Example: In 1998 Razorworks released "Enemy Engaged Apache versus Havoc" and there already where trees and forests which the player where able to use in a tactical manner.

Right. In case of some programs. But I see a significant progress in simulation. Think back to the "98" flightsims and compare them to the actual ones. You can't have better FMs, physical correct bouncing bullets, aerodynamic computations for every single rotorblade, more and more detailed 3d-model graphics, real weather effects and and and - without more powerfull hardware. And thats what we are talking about - not VB and all this crap. Nobody will force you to fly actual sims, you are free to use 98er progs on your actual (and for sure not outdated) gear - but is this what you realy want?

Hm, well, but at a certain point you have to make a cut. Or in other words: you can't expect every future addon or programm runing on your old gear. Beside this: for my feeling 20 fps in a town is a very good rate and absolutly playable. So be happy!

A button to switch it off would be OK, but there HAS to be the option of colliding with trees. I realy don`t want to see groups of helicopter flying through forests!
