[RESOLVED]Black screen when adjusting controls after update April 22
Tornado replied to Tornado's topic in Game Crash
Yes all is working again. Perhaps I expressed (did not write it correct) it wrong about the logbook. I used backup logbook.lua in the new made C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS\MissionEditor. I renamed C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS\MissionEditor.org. So my old logbook.lua was saved. After DCS made a new MissionEditor folder I took my old logbook.lua file. Just as you wrote I moved to old one back. Sorry for the miscommunication.:) -
[RESOLVED]Black screen when adjusting controls after update April 22
Tornado replied to Tornado's topic in Game Crash
As stated yesterday I did some tests on this issue today I can report the following: I took the actions as suggested. I made backups from the saved games folders and let DCS 2.0.2. and 1.5.3 (release) made fresh folders. I was able to adjust the buttons for the Warthog as I was used to. So indeed the problem was somewhere in the saved games folders of both versions. I did some further research as I wanted to know which folder caused the problem. I repaced my DCS saved games folder backup back and tested each separate folder (renamed the folder so there was a new one created). Well the problem was in the following folder: MissionEditor. After renaming it and let DCS make a new MissionEditor folder the problem was gone. In which specific lua file the problem was, I coundn't find out. I guess it is one of the lua files in the MissionEditor head folder. I put some backup lua files back in the new created MissionsEditor folders. Because there was a new log file you loose all your data in your logbook. That kind of lua files I pushed back. Maybe you have an idea which lua file was affected. Well it is good to know for all of us. Thanks for all help and suggestions. Tornado -
[RESOLVED]Black screen when adjusting controls after update April 22
Tornado replied to Tornado's topic in Game Crash
try a fresh saved games dcs folder, rename the ones you have to keep them as backups, restart dcs and allow them to create new ones, redo your settings and try the controls again. C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha Also do a repair, if you are using any unofficial mods remove them first and then do a repair. Let us know how you get on I will be back tomorrow and try out your suggestions. It is getting very late (after midnight) but thanks for your help sofar. I will be back as soon. Tornado -
[RESOLVED]Black screen when adjusting controls after update April 22
Tornado replied to Tornado's topic in Game Crash
I don't have an Xbox controller. What I have is the Warthog Trustmaster, VKB rudder MKIII and a TrackIR4 Natural Point Yes strange indeed. Only the Mirage sofar. Here are my logs from the OpenAlpha 2.0.2. (update yesterday) and the release version of DCS 1.5.3. (update today). I hope you can find out what the problem is. There is another simmer who reported that on the 21st of March http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=162989&highlight=controls I responded first on that thread. But made a new thread on this issue dcs 1.5.3 release version.rar dcs 2.0.2 OpenAlpha.rar -
[RESOLVED]Black screen when adjusting controls after update April 22
Tornado replied to Tornado's topic in Game Crash
Additional information. Also black screens on the last update of the NTTR map DCS 2.0.2. But only when want to adjust the controls for the Mirage. Other aircraft are doing fine the controls menu sofar. But I get crashes when adjusting the controls of the Mirage. However in the last update of OpenBeta 1.5.3 (today April 22) I don't have that problem. Only the updated release version DCS 1.5.3 and the DCS 2.0.2. Also: It only happens in the DCS options Controls menu. When adjusting the Warthog buttons in flight or ramp start up I can adjust the buttons without problems. For me sofar the Mirage is afffected with that problem -
When I want to adjust the controls of the M-2000C and press on ok the screen turns black. Music is still playing but I have the to kill DCS with the taskmanager. Start DCS again. I tried to adjust the controls for the mirage 3 times now, but every time same story. Black screen and now way to get back in the menu. It happens indeed after the update 1.5.3. But then I was able to do something in push the OK button after every change I did. But when I edited more controlls in one run the screen starts to turn black. After todays update in 1.5.3 (April 22) I tried to adjust only one button for my Warthog and pressed on ok and the black screen turns in.

Same problem I have when adjusting the controls of the M-2000C and press on ok the screen turns black. Music is still playing but as Nealius wrote you the to kill DCS when the taskmanager. Start over again.

Maybe we misunderstand each other. The strange popping sound or maybe it is better the call a recurring crackling sound when you throttle back to idle. When throttle up the cracking sound will be overruled with the other engine sounds which become louder. I have attached a .trk file which can put in: C:\Users\...\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha\Tracks (this is the path in my case) or whatever Dir of your saved games. You will hear what I mean. It is crackling sound and when deleting/removing the PlaneFarNoise.wav it is gone. I have the problem in all the DCS version DCS world/openbeta and DCS 2.0.1. It started after the first update for World 2.0 and when 1.5.2 (stable and beta) were updated the same problem of the crackling sound were audibly as well Tornado Mirage popping sound.trk
-
After some testing and removing wav files in Sounds/Aircraft/Engine dir I discovered the problem of the popping sound. It is caused the following wav file in \DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines DIR "PlaneFarNoise.wav". First I thought it was the CockpitAfterBurner.wav. But after some testing over and over I am convinced that this wav file is the problem. I think the corresponding sdef file has to be adjusted as this file is controlling the PlaneFarNoise.wav. I partly understand how these sdef files work and these setting can be changed. However I am not THE expert of course. How more GAIN value (sdef file can be opened with wordpad) how more popping you will get. But that is obvious. But there are also cone and radius (inner and outer) values which can be changed but I do not know how that works. Perhaps someone knows, so the sdef file will work correct and we don't have that stupid sound anymore. I did some changes myself as I took another wav file PlaneFarNoise and adjusted the gain factor in the sdef file. However the gain value is low and this effects the fly by (F3) application. After 1.5 nm from the spot you activated F3 you will not hear the jet engine anymore. Well that's it for now.
-
I always like to adjust engine and related wav files to my own taste. The Mirage has its own sound files (Mod/M-2000C/Sounds/effects) However most of these sound files are not used, as the sound files must correspond with the sdef files (Mod/M-2000C/Sounds/sdef). You will see that a part of the sound files are used. Only cockpit related sound files (such as knobs, warning signals etc). What the Mirage uses, are the "default" DCS engine files. The Mirage uses the SU-25 engine wavs. The front/back/around engine files of the SU-25. These files are also used by the Hawk, the C-101 aviojet, the Mig 21 (partly). So you actually can say that these are the "default jet engine" wavs. I tried to understand how DCS adresses the engine wavs. With the sdef for sure, but that is not the complete story. Maybe someone knows how it works (the complete addressing of sound files)!!!!! The Mirage engine files (\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Sounds\effects) are a copied from the FSX structure (you can find the sound.ini and sound.cfg of FSX in the list). I think all good sound files. but still must be addressed to the M-2000C with the respective sdef files. Of course it is beta and it will come along. So I can live with the semi "su-25 default engine files". However the popping sound can be reduced (or it even stops) with deleting or renaming the COCKPITAFTERBURNER.WAV in the \DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines DIR (or rename/delete it in the \DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Sounds\Sdef\Aircrafts\Engines DIR. Of course backing up the files. Well it is more a story what I discovered how the engine and related files work, but maybe indeed it is a DCS engine related issue that effects the M-2000C
-
The problem has with this wav file: CockpitAfterburner.wav in the following path DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines and the corresponding sdef file (DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Sounds\sdef\Aircrafts\Engines). When you "rename or remove" the wav file or sdef file the problem is gone. However it should function properly. To be honest I adjusted both the cockpitafterburner.wav and that corresponding sdef. I returned the original (wav and sdef) files. It was much better inside the cockt but not gone. Outside you can still hear that sound. Maybe this helps for the time being. I mean to disable the wav of sdef file till they patch it.
-
Same problem overhere in 2.0 after the update tonight. Only in the cockpit. It starts when you move the throttle (after reaching 11%). It disappears more or less when you change your view down to the ejection seat. Strange and don't have it in 1.5.2 (not updated yet I know).

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=131918&page=9 Check this thread as well. You will see what suggestions I got and what finally helped me.

had strange FPS behavior too a couple of weeks ago. I bought a brand new PC (I7 4770) and after a week I got very low rates. I posted this on the forum as well. Not 100% sure to say what actually caused these low rates, but the creative drivers (which I updated 5 days after the purchase) were the main reason as far as I can reconstruct now. As I said not 100% sure. But the problems started after the update. I mailed ED and they stated that the Creative drivers are the worst. They can influence DCS a lot. This suggestion came from one of the simmers who responsded to the thread. Maybe you can dig into this suggestion as well. Fortunately I had an imagebackup and was able to put things back when I had super high fps (up to 120) in the first days after the purchase. No driver update from Creative anymore. I leave as it is. All works. I have a backup soundcard on the motherboard (Realtek) as well, so when creative is causing problems again I will skip the additional creative sound card X-Fi.
-
Thanks roko71. All works fine so far. Good frames rates what might be expected from that system. But what I did yesterday is consulting Eagle Dynamics to see if they are aware of any problems with software, graphics drivers or sound card drivers. This morning I got an answer back from a ED IT guy Andrey Filin. He wrote that he also thinks that the Creative Drivers are causing the problem. As I updated the Creative Drivers three days after I bought the PC. It is hard to say when I exactly noticed to problem. But for sure around the time I updated them. Andrey Filin admitted that the Creative drivers are the worst drivers. Like Silviuf also stated in this part of the thread. So be aware of the Creative Drivers. Maybe the sound files are not working that well in DCS which is disturbing the whole game. Also the loading process is slow. Now within second DCS starts and within 15 seconds I have the F-15 running. So I noticed that issue too. It surely will depend on the individual PC, but a warning is on its place I think. To be continued... For now I keep everything is it is.
-
Thanks Silviuf. It is a big guess what interrupted DCS world. It is only a big guess sofar. But maybe you are right. In the first place I also hardly could imagine that the software influenced the game. Still thinking that same way. However after updating drivers and installing (which is my opnion) harmless software I got the preformance problem. Like you wrote: I don't trust the Creative software as well. I did it with the auto update and I got a list of all kind of creative programms. I only choose the driver update and what came along with it. Which was about 80 Mb. It took very long to install all new drivers etc. That I can recall. So maybe you are right about Creative. The Video driver from NVidia I did not touch (in the first place). When I became desparate I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and installed the new ones. That was 3 days ago just the day before I took it back to the builder. So the problems started with previous Nvidia drivers. The new driver did not help anyway. The problem still insisted. It did many DCS world fresh installs, but nothing worked. Setting back the PC (let me say) in the buying status (so completely fresh as I took it home on the 7th) the problem was over. So software wise it must affected the whole preformance of the PC by the way. When I now start up DCS it runs within less then 5 seconds. In the bad situation it took also longer. Sometimes up to more then 1 minute and in game the Mig 21 took sometimes more then 4 minutes. I know that the loading time for the Mig 21 takes longer (also in the forum to be read) That was also strange. But maybe indeed we must focus on the Creative drivers.

To all of you who responded to the poor behaivour of my new computer. As a little reminder my pc specs 4770k CPU H60 hydro liquid cooling Asus z87 motherboard Nvidia GTX 780 16 gb ddr ram Ssd 1 250 gb Ssd 2 500 gb Creative x-fi pcie Blu Ray combo drive Dell u2412m Logitech Mx 800 Windows 7 home. On the second Ssd (500 GB) drive I have installed DCS world with the modules FC3, A10C, Mig 21bis, F-86 as well as MS FSX was installed on that D drive I went to the builder of the pc and he swaped the GTX 780 for AN ATI R9 290X. So I was able to test DCS world righty away in the shop. Well gentlemen the performance was not bad but EXTREME bad. In the F15 the fps did not come above the 30 fps ande Mig 21 the fps dropped to 12-15 fps. No FPS fluctuations but just VERY poor rates. Whatever setting of the R9 290X we choose nothing worked. So something else must have interrupted the performance and that must have been software I installed after a day or three. The first three days at home I did not have a bad preformance. I installed my own prefered software like: Google Chrome browser, winrar, Vlc player, update the creative drivers, software to burn cd and dvd, Wifi adaptor software. In my opinion no harmfull software. What did not work is playing a Blu Ray's via windows media player or Vlc player. So I started to dig on the internet for free software to get the Blu Ray's running. I tried several freeware software, but nothing worked. What did not work I uninstalled right away. Then I came accross DVD/Blu Ray Fab passkey. Blu Ray's Can be player via VLC player. That worked. First run the fab keypass a then the Blu Ray via VLC. Fortunately we made Windowsbackup image on the 7th of November when bought the pc. We used the Windows image back-up and installed everything back as it was when left the shop. Then I installed DCS world 1.12.11 again. It was running prefect without any fps drops. Installed the modules back and all worked well. So far no strange behavior of dropping fps or very poor rates. PREFECT working machine I can only conclude that software I installed caused the problem. Which software I really do not know. Under suspicious is that Fab passkey software. But it is just guessing. Can also be the driver update I did for creative. But again I actually have no idea. Some of the software must have interrupted or setback the Graphics preformance or maybe the CPU. Also that is the big question. Maybe you guys know what went wrong. It is not only for myself but also very important to know for other DCS simmers. I will consult Eagle dynamics. Maybe then know which software could harm the GPU or CPU preformance. I hope we can benefit all from this issue. Thanks for all attention, post, remarks and help. I am happy that I can fly again....with top fps. Tornado

To all who responded to my problem: This morning I contacted the builder because the PC is very new (bought it on the 7th of this month). He will dig into the technical issues of the PC. It is matter of garanty as well of course. All components are new. He will swap the cards (another GTX 780 and an ATI R9 290X to see what happens). I will stay out of the technical issues, also because of the garanty. It was not a cheap machine, so you may expect something decent. I think the same as Random, the GPU throttles down, because the fans are not working properly. Sometimes they are activated, but in most runs not at all. So I did not open the PC myself. What I did it: I packed the new PC back in the box as it will be "repaired" this week (I hope). I spent too much time behind this PC solving the problem. Nothing worked sofar. The builder is in charge now. It was no problem so I have full support. For the time being I took my three and half year PC (the I7 960) from the attic and installed it back to it's old place. This one works. Less powerfull but still reasonable to fill up the gap I will post the results when all is running well. So we all can learn about it. Fortunately we have this forum which I consult many times. Thanks for all help and advises and again I will keep you informed. Tornado

I think I found the problem. It looks if my Nvidia is not responding sometimes. Two times tonight I heard the fans from the card increasing in noise. I paused the flight for a couple of mintues and suddently the fans start increase noise wise. Then the FPS became stable and smooth flight. However when start up again from the Mission Editor and want to fly again, the fans or actually the temp was back to normal and I suffer from poor frame rates. Most of the time I didn't hear an increase in noise. But when I hear the fans going up I assume that the card takes action and then fps are 100% okay. Most of the time the card stays low noise wise. So problem with the card I guess. Unless you in the forum have some better ideas what it might be. I don't think it are the fan(s) of the liquid cooling. As I can analyse it know it is the Nvidia.

Thanks AtlaliaA1. I was so busy in tuning the nVidia card for hours and hours. But the 4770K is not overclocked. It was actually stated by the builder in his offer price. So assumed that also did carry out the overclocking process, but today I found out that 4770K is still running on default (3,5GHZ) setting. I did install the turbo boost as suggested by you. No results however that benefit. Also the page file did not work. The most strange event of today. For one run in DCS with the Mig 21 after the some many change in the nVidia CP I had a good session. Stable FPS with the Mig which were high ranging from 100 to 80 only. I thought: "yes I have it set!!!!". The rig saw the light. Left DCS world and wrote down these settings. Started again and hope was gone. Same issue. Most frustrating is the Mig 21 as it is heavy one it self, so it get drop down in FPS they go way down to 12-15. With the F15 you have these drops too, but the model is less heavy and the drops stop and 20 or maybe 19. In ratio the FPS goes down with the aircraft you use. The mig 21 will be become unmanageable. Even in downgrading to the lowest setting you can imagine in DCS (everything on low and to zero, as well as resolution 1024x768). It seems that my PC doesn't like the nVidia or the other way around. Will ATI cards solve the problem????? Since 2003 I had 3 PC's all with ATI cards. When I upgraded them always took an ATI. Never had any complaints about these one. In i7 960 I have relativ cheap ATI a HD 5770. Works fine.... Oh boy what frustrating. Spent hours and hours in changing settings the last few of days. My eyes are square shaped as we say overhere... Any ideas or suggestions which come to your mind are welcome

Thanks Roko71 this morning I downloaded realtemp en Prime95. I started Prime95 first, so the PC started to make more noise etc. Then I started Realtemp and saw the 4 cores running temp wise. But none of them came above 90C. After 5 minutes I had the following temps: 84, 83, 78 and 74 recorded. So I don't think it will be the liquid cooling system. So we can rule this out (for the moment). The video card will be the next target. Maybe I have to go back to an ATI card. In my other PC I have a simple ATI card HD 5770. Never had problems with that one. But I still doubt about all. I am not an expert in technical components of a PC. I know some basic things but that's it. Thanks for your help anyway. If you have more suggestions please advise
-
Thanks for all advises. I tested DCS with almost every setting (whatever setting you can imagine)of the nVidia card. Made several profiles in de CP of the nVidia software. Conclusion nothing works. It always has the same problem going back and fourth in FPS. This runs me crazy. Even in the lowest settings in DCS world I get the same problem 10 seconds okay and then 1 to 2 seconds down with the FPS. The most frustrating plane is the Mig21. Because this application is more heavy then the F15C for instance. So the FPS are lower form the start and when I then get these FPS dorps it will be 12 to 15 or even less and then after each 10 or 8 seconds. It are just single flights from Batumi, 12.00 hrs no clouds etc. Just a simple take off from the runway turning to the city and flying over it. All problems actually started when I had to go back with my PC to the builder (because my Wifi card did not work, so a new one was installed). The weekend before (last weekend) before changing the wifi card the PC had a very good preformance. Then 1.2.10 was the latest version. On Tuesday the 11th 1.2.11 was launched and updated it via the autoupdate. After that it became a mess with the FPS. It was not to blame the update I discovered as this weekend I installed 1.2.10 (fortunately I had the files downloaded) back to see if 11 was the problem. But invain it was not version 11 as version 10 had similar problems. Also the Beta version I have on the PC. Also the same problem stange behaviour of teh FPS. I really get mad as it takes me so much effort to get it right and nothing helps. Really nothing. Paid a lot of money and my old rig is doing better (almost 4 years old). I can not imagine that I have to wait for DCS 2.0. With such specs in my new PC it must run. Maybe some hick ups, but not this strange FPS behavior. I had to write this sooner, but the testing took almost the whole day. Any other help is welcome. Suggestions let me know.
-
Thanks AtaliaA1 for your response. It kept me busy since I got the new PC. It is so frustrating that a computer with such excellent components is not working okay. Many of the DCS simmers have these specs, but I did not read in the forums that much about problems with dropping frames rates just in straight flights without any major buildings or other structures ahead (and as I wrote even when I pause the flight). Sometimes I fly over cities with frames rates around 100 and then leaving the area it drops to 20 or even less. Strange behaviour. Next week I will have substitute the Nvidia card for another GTX 780. Just to see if the Nvidia card itself is the problem. I spend a lot of money and the builder of the PC will help me to locate the problem. Perhaps one or more components are malunctioning. So we start with the Nvidia first. Furthermore I can tell you that my "old" PC has better (better to say stable) FPS with DCS world then the new. That PC is a i7 960 GHZ (a little overclocked), 6 GB DDR RAM, ATI 5770 1 GB DDR, 1 TB harddisk. Just a good PC almost 4 years old. FPS on this PC are far more between 30 and 40 and in heavy areas or more aircrafts etc then it drops to 20 or so. But it never has such high fluctiations as the new one. What I misunderstood from your answer: "it leaves out the setting the NVidia Render 2 frames ahead. Does it mean stay away from Render 2 frames ahead in the settings of the card. Maybe I did not translate correct. What settings should it be??? I watched partly the you tube link you gave me. Interesting and I will watch all the ones this simmer made. Perhaps I learn more about it. However is very technical. The best way is to get some simple (well simple????:helpsmilie:) adjustments to the Nvidia card, so it will helps to avoid these strange drops which are in crowded areas extreme disturbing. Because then these drops are making DCS more or less unplayable. In crowded areas the fps are always under pressure. If you then get these extra stutters with drops to 15 or 10 and that makes it actually unplayable. Just then you need a reasonable stable fps. I really hope there is someone who can tell me what settings are best to avoid this fps behaviour more or less Thanks again and please let me know more. Rob

Last week I got my new computer with the following specs: Processor: INTEL Core i7-4770K (4x 3500 MHz) - 4,3Ghz overclocked ! Cooling: CORSAIR H60 Hydro (liquid cooling) Moederbord: ASUS Z87 PRO Socket 1150 + WiFi CORSAIR 16 GB DDR-3 1600 Kit Videocart: ASUS NVidia GTX780 3072MB DDR5 2x DVI + 1x HDMI + 1x DisplayPort Solid State Drive: Samsung 840EVO 250Gb (t.b.v. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits NL) Solid State Drive: Samsung 840EVO 500Gb (t.b.v. DCS en FSX) CD/DVD/Blu-Ray burner: ASUS BC-12D2HT Blu-ray Combo 12/16/12/48 Geluidskaart: Creative X-Fi Extreme Audio PCIe (extra seperate geluidskaart) COOLMASTER Silent pro Gold 750W/ 85%, 2x PCIe 6+2 pins LIAN-LI PC-7HX Midi Tower On the 2nd SSD drive I installed DCS World as well as the open Beta version of DCS (1.2.11.34087.547-360-5). On both versions I have problems with sudden drops in frame rate even in paused screens. FPS changes from over far over 100 fps back to 20 fps for a second or so. Then it is building up again to 50.. 60 ... etc to 100 and more. This continues during a regular flight. Only one aircraft as player. With relativ heavy crowed aircraft at an airfield the drops go back to 10 fps and then again to 50 fps or more. In such situations it is disturbing. In straight flights or with a few aircraft it is less disturbing, but still It doesn't matter if all settings are high or low. It happens in every setting I use even in lower resolutiuons. I use one screen (Dell U2413U) I changed te Nvidia setting several times. Suggested mainly from the forum. Whatever I do nothing helps. Alays the same story sudden drops in frame rate and up to high down to low With such high specs I doe not understand what is wrong: Videocard maybe Any help is welcome. The PC is build by the aviationmagastore in The Netherlands. Mainly Based on FSX with their experience. But we made the choice in PC components which a lot of DCS users use. Any suggestions!!!! HELP

You are right. I can live with it too. But I want to understand the sound file structure. Some simple changes can bring some improvements to the sounds (for the time being). I am sure that ED will reach a better level of sounds.
