If you had your head buried in a P-47 manual, would you come up for air so's you could talk via the interweb to a lot of impatient geeks who only ever fly a computer and as a result think they're the coolest people on the planet? I don't think I would, but I wish the buggers would say hello once in a while.....(that's you Ilya :) ) Oh God, I'm one of them, I am....I just realised.......Wife!!! Pass me the big knife!!!! :music_whistling:

[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)
Gooseneck replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Well, as in previous years, this argument gets dafter and more technical, and as a result yet more daft as time goes on. A pilot would only fire at the point at which he has the correct angular deflection in the reticle of the sight, which bears no relation whatsoever to the physical relationship between the square of glass and the so called 'bar'. In a direct six o'clock attack, the bar has no relevance. The guns would be fired when the engine of the B-17 was in the centre of the reticle. In a turn fight, angular deflection comes into play, and guns would be fired, dependant on the exact circumstances, usually when the target was completely obscured by the nose of the aircraft. These sort of situations would be avoided by the pilot. As some people have been trying to point out all along in this thread, the length of the Dora's nose is far more of a factor in deflection shooting than this tiny strip of obstruction at the lower edge of the glass square which represents the physical form of the gunsight. But you blokes carry on. I suppose it gives you all something to talk about. -
The Kickstarter is over. Now the real fun begins!

The Kickstarter is over. Now the real fun begins! Yup. This place is already starting to look all too familiar........:D -
Three American, Three German, One British aircraft...
Gooseneck replied to Avimimus's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yup, that's what I thought. Thanks Brisse. But I don't really know how this thread got side-tracked into ordnance delivery analyses. It was about maybe having another Brit plane in the pipeline to balance things up a bit. But if we look at simply Axis vs Allied all is cool. I'd still like a Mossie/Typhoon/Tempest/Mossie/Mossie though. :) -
150k reached-good times ahead!
Gooseneck replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
What an excellent result. And it ain't over yet. :) The last 24 hours have been the most interesting, exciting and satisfying from a WWII combat flight sim perspective I can remember. And I didn't even touch my joystick once. A big congratulations to everyone involved. Good Job!! -

Gooseneck replied to Avimimus's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yah. Wasn't going to get involved with that statement for fear of 'bananaforumitis'. But 'the Brits' dropped a great deal more tonnage, if memory serves. Not researched it though, so don't jump on me neck you chaps. :) -

Gooseneck replied to Avimimus's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Well, there is a 109, a Dora and a 262. There is a Mustang and a Thunderbolt and maybe in the longer term a B-17. And there is a Spitfire. Offensively speaking, a Lancaster sounds awesome, but who would want to fly all those night-time missions, being unable to see the outside of the aircraft properly for movies and screenshots, taking eight hours or so to fly a mission? But on the other hand there were Mosquitoes, and Typhoons, and Tempests, and more Mosquitoes. And there were Mosquitoes. Oh, I said that already....:D -
Now that is a very funny summary. :D 'What? You mean you can actually see the aircraft? Up Close?? Like with colours an' all??? Aaaaaargh!!!' :helpsmilie:

Me-262 within reach - will you get it?
Gooseneck replied to MACADEMIC's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Neither do I need all the planes. I also have the P-51 already. That's not really the point. If you put in $40 or more, you get them all. Including the 262 and P-47, done to the same standard as the P-51 you already have. As Royraiden said in another forum, '6 DCS planes for $40. It's a no-brainer'. -

Gooseneck replied to MACADEMIC's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yah. As long as you pledge over $40, you will have all flyable planes on release. That's 'ALL' flyable planes, including the 262. For $40. -

:D I don't mind being towed by cows. In fact, I've been 'toe'd' by cows on occasions. Usually when taking a short cut home from the pub. At first, they run away, but then when they realise you're no threat, they come and crowd you and stand on your toes, which hurts. Then they dump in exactly the direction you need to go, thus ruining your shoes. Very clever animals cows. It's no small wonder they allowed them to tow Me262s. I wouldn't trust them to humans. ;) -

:D Just the thought of starting up the engines like the A-10, but with a tiny two-stroke motor buzzing away doing the initial spool up gives me goose pimples. :pilotfly: -

Already have it. Along with all the other 'flyables' in the game. Just need a few more dollars for the 150k......... -
DCS WWII: Europe 1944: Kickstarter Video 7: Making it Work
Gooseneck replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Luthier said in the vid that they aren't making any promises about multiplayer, in case it turns out that people can point the finger and say 'you didn't deliver!'. Best he keeps schtum on that issue I'd say. If it turns out that on release it's the same as DCS is now, then that's the way it will be. If it's something better which ties in with the overall 'EDGE' development, then that's the way it will be. I don't see any mileage in pushing for answers on this one. -

Stick shaker does not work in update 1.2.6
Gooseneck replied to Vita_CZ's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just updated to latest 1.2.6 version, and was disappointed to note from the patchnotes that this issue hadn't been resolved yet. Is there an assurance anywhere that it's being worked on? -

Backers just exceeded 2000. -
Keep the stick back until the airspeed indicator needle comes off the stop and starts to rise. Then just ease the stick to neutral and the tail will lift naturally.

Well, perhaps not in retrospect. :)

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys. Nice to know I can stir yuz all into action. :) But as with many threads I've seen so far, the discussion is a little premature, and there are evidently arguments all ways from lots of different perspectives. At least we all seem to be agreed on the fact that there should be only one free plane. But is that because we've all already pledged and so will still get them all? I'd like to hear from someone who hasn't pledged yet, I think. :)
-
Ok chaps, you disagree with me. I'm cool with that. But look at this another way. Which aircraft would be the most expensive to produce? Which aircraft would be the cheapest to produce? I would put it to you that out of the existing FMs available, the P-47 would be more expensive to produce than the 109 or Spit. From the vid we saw regarding FMs, they already have water cooled single engine stuff with the P-51 and Dora. Not many adjustments would have to be made FM-wise to produce a Kurfurst or a Spit. But a P-47 is an air-cooled radial with lots of different engine modelling. So, they would be giving away for free what cost the most to produce. Even the 262 would take less work, with the FMs available from DCS. See my point there?
-
Yeah, I confess you all have a point with the versatility and durability. But if you give this away free, and this brand new untapped market laps it up, why are they going to then buy a Spit IX or 109K, or P-51 or Dora, which has very limited air to ground capability, water cooling, less firepower or armament duration in the guns etc? Don't get me wrong here, I absolutely adore the P-47. So much that I think it should be payware, not freeware. It's very versatility is worth something. :)
-
Not in my opinion. In my opinion, that Su-25 is enough to put anyone off buying a DCS module. It's a really bad advertisement, imo. But the free 'plane has to be one of the new models, otherwise existing P-51 and Dora owners will feel disadvantaged. In the great wide world beyond flight sim fans, who has heard of a P-47? That leaves us with Spits and 109s, and I'd say that there are a great deal more untapped potential 109 fans than Spit fans. But I ain't gonna argue. Either would be ok, just not the Jug, because it's not very widely known, and anyone new to aviation and/or flight sims would say 'a what?'. :)
