Jeeez. Here in Poland, in our flight sim community, most of people fly Su’s and MiGs, almost nobody fly Eagle – to be precise only 6 people fly them. That’s mainly because we fly WVR all the time, and Russian jets have advantage of having Shlem and R-73. The rules here are to have only 3 close range weapons, so the AMRAAMS, Sparrows, Alamo and Adder are out. The Eagle is left with old AIM-9L, and cannon, so the Eagle drivers are using the Gatling gun, and the rest is just firing Archers from 7 miles away, from any angle they want. Now this is unfair ;) The truth is - this game is about Russian jets, Eagle and the Hog are just for show. Have you guys seen Eagles from 493d FS at RAF Lakenheath? These are the one which would take part in a such campaign as presented in this sim. Those Eagles have state of the art EW suit, they were the first front line unit to have AIM-9X and JHMCS, the new improved Fighter Data Link, ALE-50 Towed Decoy, and many more. Non of those systems is present in this game. The LockOn Eagle is in late 80’s, while everything else is shown how it looks today. Well I’ll tell you this, if you complain about how tough it is to fight with the Eagle as it’s right now, than think what would be when it had things I listed.:D

No it is not, I don't know from what MS Flight Simulator or Falcon 4.0 addon you took it, but its wrong, HERE you can see the real thing.

The Raytheon did its Fire and Forget version mounting IIR seeker in front of the missile, but program was cancelled in 2002, that missile is also known as TOW-2B FF or simply TOW-FF. Ataka is a bit small you will need far better electronics tehnology to fit radar/IIR and good guidance computer in it without sacrificing range and warhead. A good buyer.
-
Yes it is, and its getting better every month :) The only problem is, both systems are SACLOS missiles, there is no possibility for those missiles to be launched in Lock On After Launch (LOAL) mode, nor to be guided by other source (like Hellfire) and no way they will become Fire-and-Forget types (like Longbow Hellfire or TOW-2B). Both Ataka and Vikhr are indeed in service, but production of Vikhr was terminated some time ago and there are no upgrade programs running for it.
-
Well I'm few books older now... so it seems that Shkwal could work with AT-9 but was never adopted to that role, mainly because the only operating airframes are in few models and there are no plans to buy more of them. The Vikhr production was cancelled shortly so to eny mission makers - remember to not put to many Su-25T and Ka-50 in one mission with those missiles if you want to make realistic one :D
-
The Mi-24V/P and Mi-28 also doesn’t have radar (the Mi-28N can have it) and still AT-9 is their primary anti-tank weapon. For radio-command control missiles radar is not needed, the data-link antenna is.

I’m not Russian equipment expert, my friend Kusch here is better in that matter, so I have a question: Why we use AT-16 Vikhr in this sim ? The cause why I’m asking this question is quite simple, I just bought “Nowa Technika Wojskowa” magazine, and I found info about practice firings of Ka-52 – the December 2005 one of firing AT-9 Ataka missiles… nothing out of ordinary so far, but later in this text I found this quote: “…earlier Ka-52, same as its predecessor Ka-50 was armed with Vikhr, laser beam riding missile. Vikhr was rejected by Russian armed forces and its production was terminated. Kamow had to adapt Ka-52 to carry atgm Ataka, the most popular anti-tank missile in Russia.” Now it strucked me, why are we using the wrong missile ? Why not the one that Russians are really using – the AT-9 Ataka radio-command guided missile?

That guy above me was Right I was refering to Mil Mi-14 Haze, both ASW and SAR versions we have here. So how does it feel when somebody talk about you in 3rd person ? -

Compare its price with Rafale-M, Su-33 and F/A-18E/F (the C/D aren't made enymore). And the MiG is sold with Gorshkov as one battle system, with any other aircaft the cost would be even bigger. The radar station we got here is Pulse Doppler, so don't worry about that one. -

If it would... but it won't. The echo from blade that is going forward will be always stronger than one from blade moving backwards. For specific physics equations to show you that I will have to talk first with guys in radar station here, thy can keep track on hovering Haze 80nm off the shore so they have to know the mathematic answer to this ;) -

I have to disagree with you, the rotating blades give a very strong echo, and can be seen by radar from long ranges, a helo like Mi-8 have RCS of the rotor itself in 8m^2 range (6 or less for new composite ones). Two more and it shows like F-15 on your radar. The only problem is with tracking helos flying NOE, you got many interference from the ground, from trees, buildings etc. but using AN/APG-63v1 you can easily track Hip or Hind from 30-45nm as long as there are no obstacles between you and the target. Thats enough for radar which wavelength is in millimeters. Trust me on this one, I live all my life with helos and their crews. -

No it won't. Like I said it will pick up fast movement of your main Rotor blades. -

India is buying MiG-29K because they are cheap and can work with Admiral Gorshkov without any modifications. As for Su-30 MKI, bare in mind that for India the avionics is French made. German ground crews lowered RD-33s performance to raise the time between scheduled repair (from 300h to 720h) + they modified most of their equipment and tools to deal with their MiGs, they have also modified the aircrafts changing their avionics to be more reliable and meet NATO standards. Remember, MiG-29 is frontline fighter and like most of Soviet made equipment it wasn't design for peace time. Yes, the scores were: AH-1J - 6 HIND kills Mi-24W - 10 Cobra kills you can find some info about engagements during November 1980, 4th April 1981, September 1981, 5th February 1983 and 13th February 1986. And a fun fact: most of the kills were achieved using wire guided missiles. No, I'm saying that this would boost the gameplay, and made whole addon more cost worthy -

To name one: Iran-Iraq war: AH-1 vs Mi-24 The 1.2 is the last addon for LockOn so no more flyable aircrafts/helo after that -

Like F-4F ? The Germans have no problems with them, in mather of fact they sold all of their MiGs to Poland for one Euro and modified the Phantoms to fly them until EF Typhoon comes in to the service. -

Low and slow you can go, when you have trees behind which you can hide. Here the trees are transparent for any optics and radar. In this sim, in this helo you can live only in mountain areas... and only for a while. Hovering won't do you good, you can't beam radar in the helo, because there is no way it will miss those huge rotating blades. -

All RAH-66 are prototypes, so when we think that way... Russians have fewer MiGs 1.44 than USA have Comanches... and such a conversation is pointless. The Mil Mi-24W or Mi-35 would be far better to implement to this sim than Ka-50, but then again let's think about it. The whole 1.2 idea is for Single player only. Having one helo in multiplayer with "high performance jet rich environment" is pointless, those Hokums will be like fishes in barrel, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, only wait to get smacked by Sparrow missile. Now having two birds for example Ka-50 and AH-1W - that would be something different, because the blue side would not be "jets only", and players could do helo vs helo kind of missions. -
And only because India have bought it.

Maybe because it's more expensive to maintain than any other design ? ;) Russians have chosen Mil Mi-28 for their future attack helo, Kamov bird is way too expensive and its effectiveness is to low, compared to other modern designs like Mangusta, Longbow, King Cobra or Tiger. -
Two for price of one. One more mission for the same money - that was move for those who yelled that it is only a fighter.
