  1. Yes i admit that it is a only a minor annoyance, if the ED and thier software ws a steaming pile of you know what, i would not even mention these little things. But because ED are generaly great and i have much respect for thier products that i'd like these things ironed out. If you're gonna be the best might as well be the best by a country mile. And yeh i do believe that with the new update system we wont have to do this very often.
  2. i've even tried to look at stuff off screen when watching tv. nobody has ever noticed or at least they've been polite enough not to say anything.
  3. I find myself in a familiar situation (along with many others i'd guess) I will have to install BS1 purely for the purpose of activating the new version of the BS2module. Is there no way that we owners of BS1 who bought the BS2upgrade can submit the serial numbers from both BS1 and BS2upgrade so that we could be re-issued a full BS2 key and the previous two made invalid. I could then throw my boxed copy of BS1 away (no valid key anymore) and move on. Either that or on the BS2upgrade installer just have a second field to enter the BS1 key. Or another way, provide us with a miniscule downloadable BS1 which contains no actual game data, simply to make the required registry changes and ask for the Serial. (actually, if I installed and activated BS1 but then deleted all the files would that work? the game would be installed as far as the registry is concerned but i'd have my drive space back, might be a workaround) I hear it is a similar thing with FC3, requiring a previous version of FC or the original lockon. Seems weird to me to be installing ancient games which contain 0% of the code needed by the sequel just for the purposes of activation.
  4. +1 I had a rant about that too. I was tired and pissed off at the time, but yes it is quite annoying. Here is a different question tho, After uninstalling i'm left with any folders which have modified files in (custom liveries, a few LOD fixes and zzzspace's sound mod) is there any reason i cant stick these back in after the new version is installed? will i even need the LOD fixes?
  5. and this is just a guess, cos i have bought the bs2upgrade i'm gonna have to install bs1 AGAIN! for the duration of about 2 minutes while I install the new BS2 module. I should have chucked BS1 in the bin and just bought the BS2 full version, saved a fiver for a whole pisstake of hassle, same reason as i wont buy FC3, I'd have to install the original Lockon just to get it activated.
  6. as you zoom in and out, the 70mil ring and also the aircraft you are comparing it to while esimating range will both scale together on your monitor. whereas if you use the camera longitudinal control to move the view point further forward the sight and the aircraft ahead will change independently due to perspective. Imagine its real life, therefor forget zoom (our eyes cant do that) it is actually leaning forward to the correct place so that the gun sight ring will provide an accurate range estimate. Now we just need to figure out where that is in DCS mustang and set a custom view or even a custom curve in track IR to help you find that correct spot easily.
  7. woah woah woah. i wanna see a pic of what your x52 mfd looks like! mine is a monochrome green affair that only has 3 lines of about 16 characters that can show custom information (not images). All the rest of the display (mode, shift clocks etc) are fixed lcd elements. is there some beasty new model out or something. Haaaang on, this 320x240 customisable screen is the FIP right? I gotta admit i have no clue what that is, forgive my intrusion I'm off to visit google and learn what a saitek FIP is.
  8. One of the first things i did was swap the binding for 'cockpit panel view in' and 'cockpit panel view toggle' so that num0 works as the toggle so a quick tap of num0 followed by another tap of another numpad key, num4 for left MFD for example, then when finished with that view another quick tap of num0 to get back to main view. Its all quick single key presses without having to hold modifiers. i mainly use it to get a rocksteady view of mfds or cdu when i need to click on stuff. (i love track ir except when trying to click on switches) my other find that made my life easier for filming tracks is the lctrl f3 and lctrl f11 commands. rather than toggling through the f11 views at each airfield untill you find one thats near where you want simply push lctrl f11 from any view of any vehicle to turn that camera into an f11 camera which you can move around, you can revisit any view and then f11 will bring you back to this position. Now the lctrl f3 command turns any view into a flyby camera. By using these together you can quickly place your free camera anywhere you choose and turn it into a flyby camera (i think it will be focused on the last unit you viewed) great for realistic flybys and low passes.
  9. I agree. I believe a lot of problems people encounter with sst is with having an axis send a continuous key press (stuck key) no pc can cope with this for long. solution is to use macros I use my slider for speed brake. Set with bands but using macros for the key presses so that even if i leave the slider at one of the extremes it will only send the keystroke for a few seconds anyway (as long as it takes for speed brakes to extend/retract, 3 or 4 seconds i think).
  10. after much messing about i am now using the line: {"pilot_P51_helmet_A", 0 ,"pilot_P51_helmet_unique",false}; as this is how it is used in the Voodoo Airrace Description.lua I have also deleted the line: {"pilot_p51_helmet", 0 ,"pilot_p51_helmet",true} from every description.lua that still had it (i noticed the new skins since 1.2.0 dont have that line) there is no pilot_p51_helmet.dds in the bazaar/world/textures/P_51D folder and that is why my aircraft with default skins were showing the orange missing texture. I am now at the stage where I have no missing textures and my custom helmets display correctly on a per livery basis. I cant figure out making custom visor glass, pilotface or flight suit show up consistantly in model viewer although they do show occasionally but never all together. For now tho i'm happy enough. If i was desperate for my custom flight suit etc I could replace the files in bazaar/world/textures/P_51D but that would make all pilots look the same.
  11. when i enable the rshift P pilot his textures are all there yep Ali. While messing about I've somehow got liveries that show the default pilot to have the orange missing texture but my custom ones are showing ok. any way its late o' clock, time for a sleep hopefully i'll solve it or at least get it back to working normally tommorrow.
  12. the internal pilot model certainly doesnt use the same textures as the external pilot model. Since the 1.2.0 update the pilots face texture is seperate from the pilot body texture hence why any custom textures done pre patch dont line up right. I dont know where the internal pilot texture is stored. I hardly ever turn him on, on a side note does any one know a way to set him on by default for a given aircraft, He doesnt obscure anything in the Mustang really but probably does in the Shark and i beleive he is not available in the Hog. I think it would be great if the pilots face texture was actually a DCS World asset (rather than per module) that would be used specifically for player controlled aircraft/vehicles with an alternate generic one for ai.
  13. {"pilot_P51_body", 0 ,"pilot_P51_uniquename",false}; {"pilot_P51_helmet", 0 ,"pilot_P51_helmet_uniquename",false}; I used to use these lines (or similar) but they dont seem to work since 1.2.0. I think its because of the way we can choose the different head/helmet models. I guess the textures are linked to the p51_pilot.edm rather than the p51.edm and there is no description .lua for the pilot model.
  14. Hi all very pleased with the new ability to choose old fashioned or modern helmet along with pilot ethnicity. You do this by calling particular model IDs in the descriptions lua but because the textures are linked to the model I dont know how to define custom pilot, helmet, glass textures in the description.lua of a specific aircraft livery. Although flightsuit patches still work as they used to. Here's a couple of shots of a pilot i did today. I had to just backup the textures in the main p51 folder and put new ones in there, so now all my pilots will have this face helmet and suit. Anybody know what i need to add in my description lua to make thes pilot textures livery specific?
  15. As much as many of us enjoy Track IR. If you have reason not to use it then ok. DCS is very versatile and between being able to save snap views and edit lua files along with the many configurable controls, i see no reason that you could not greatly enjoy this sim. All pan controls can be mapped to a joystick hat or keyboard commands and by default do not snap back to centre (there is another key for that) I guess speed and acceleration will be editable in an .lua file somewhere. I used to have three stages of zoom by setting custom deadzones and saturation limits on an analog axis on my x52 joystick (in game axis settings). The custom snap views can be made so that the key needs held or so that they toggle with a quick press. In short DCS (imho) is the greatest flight sim ever. It takes a narrow and specific area of aviation and recreates it with great realism and detail unlike FSX for example which tries to cover nearly everything. It is this quality and immersion that means much of the community are enthusiasts who can justify expensive equipment, but do not take this to mean that its all neccesary to enjoy the game.
  16. i had this problem, it turns out that i had not removed the control configurations folder before installing 1.2.0 In the last version the comm menu key also operated the push to talk button on the throttle, its now seperate. go to C:\Users\?you?\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\P-51D and delete that folder. Next time you run the game the folder will be re-created with all default keys in there including changes since last version. Unfortunatly you will have to redo all your joystick assignments too but at least there isn't too many in the Mustang. If you aint sure that this is the problem you could just try moving or renaming the folder i said to delete instead, just to check if it solves the problem.
  17. the force feedback goes limp so you can centre the stick but without a centering spring this can feel very odd, i actually ditched my ffb stick because of this way back when i had the original Blackshark. I havn't tried ffb with the newer versions of Blackshark though.
  18. Next time you go into campaign you will be able to select the second mission IIRC. It would be nice if one mission led straight into another with briefings or quick passage of time cutscenes.
  19. leap motion, track IR and a 3d tv. all that would be missing then would be tactile feedback gloves so i can feel the virtual switches i'm reaching out to touch.
  20. as long as there is an active community then all tastes will be accounted for. I was hugely relieved when the Blackshark cockpit gained english labels i just need the manual to have all russian referances removed to make it read easier. Now that the game is a standalone base with aircraft modules would it not be possible to use the correct regional module if you are a stickler for realism? Next time i watch a martial arts film i'm gonna set it to its native language and turn off subtitles, it'll be more realistic that way, sod the fact that i wont have a clue whats going on!
  21. as far as i know steam only sells Blackshark one. So you will still need the to buy the Blackshark 2 upgrade from the EDstore. Download dcs world 1.2.0 (free) from the downloads section of the EDsite and after paying for the BS2 upgrade download the BS2 upgrade module. Install DCS world then you'll have to install BS1 even if you're not going to use it. When BS1 is installed you can go ahead and install the BS2 module. The BS2 module will automatically go into the correct folders with DCS world. BS1 will be in steam folder but it doesnt matter it only needs to be installed so that the correct registry entrys are there when you run the BS2 module installer. I dont know what the price difference between the full and the upgrade version of BS2 on the ED store is but its bound to be more than 5 bucks so i reckon you've saved some cash but just got an extra step during installation, thats no big thing.
  22. i noticed this too today, my first foray into mp actually, I could look around as usual but could not lean forward or to the sides to look at my left and right fuel guages.
  23. i'm gonna rename myself mr obvious but i'd like to point out that on UK keyboards the default comms key (with various modifiers) is the one with ~ and # on it next to the enter button and not the one over by left shift that has \ marked on it. Try it while assigning keys in dcs (if you have a uk keyboard that is)
  24. yep something changed, is there still a ptt button, i can use coms but the little button on the throttle doesnt work any more or the transmit light on the vhf radio. Ok figured out my problem. I hadn't removed the config folder before installing DCSworld 1.2.0 and new modules. Therefor my p51 controls had no push to talk entry for me to assign anything to.
  25. I didn't think there was a DCS World patch to 1.2.0 (the patch is 1.1.2) I think you need to dl the entire DCS world 1.2.0 Hopefully you've left BS1 installed for now because that'll need to be there when you run the BS2upgrade 1.2.0 module installer again. Forgive me if i'm stating the obvious but if it helps it's worth it. good luck.
