  1. ok it was a bit of a nuisance. But i dug out the box installed BS1 then installed the BS2 upgrade module into DCS World. All in about 10 minutes of my life, cup of tea, nice wee reminisce with the old box and a disc (how quaint) Ive had much bigger swathes of time wasted in much more infuriating ways. I guess i can just uninstall BS1 straight away now? ironically i didnt even load BS1 so it never asked for my serial. Ive said it elsewhere but i'll say it again. There should be an option through your store account to submit your serial for BS1 and your serial for BS2 upgrade and then be issued with a new key for BS2full. Hell they could even just have one download for BS2 and at checkout you could enter your BS1 serial as a discount coupon code. obviously that second option wont help those that allready bought the upgrade. I agree with Kasper32 very few that have bs1 wont have got the upgrade allready.
  2. This leads me on to a similar question for the future. Assuming that in the same way as in the above example it will be possible that one day i'll be playing multiplayer with someone who owns modules I dont. Will this mean that upon release of future modules (including 3rd party) that DCS world will have patches to add things like the external model, sounds etc? so that they will show up in my game. For example is it possible that i'll find my self in combat with a Mig21 even if i havn't bought it? I remember back in the day with FSX, it would just alias any multiplayer aircraft that you didn't have with ones you did, som odd moments with cessna 172s doing 500mph because FSX thought that a cessna was the closest thing i had to the Jet that the other player was using.
  3. I dont think its gonna be common practice to have to uninstall DCS World and reinstall an updated one (hopefully anyway). Its only DCS world that's a painfully big download, made all the worse for having needing multiple tries to get an uncorrupted set.. What is a pain is that i've got to dig out my BS1 box and install that temporarily while i install my BS2 1.2.0 upgrade module. I'd like it if there was a system were ,via our store account, we could submit our BS1 and a BS2upgrade serial numbers and be issued with a single BS2full version serial. This would then invalidate my BS1 serial but i'll never go back to that now anyway.
  4. stands for Transparency Super Sampling Anti Aliasing. I thought that was a dx10/11 feature. im off to test how much impact its making. I think transparancy anti aliasing is disabled by default in nvidia control panel, so i'll have to test with that turned on and off too. It might be that while ticked in game it still isnt active till its enabled in nvide settings.
  5. i'm gonna try installing the 1.2.0 BS2 upgrade modlule without reinstalling bs1, i'm sure it is still in my registry. when i installed 1.1.1.2 BS2 upgrade (pre dcs world) it never asked for the BS1 key and BS1 was not installed at the time
  6. what is the differance between the downloads of the full and upgrade version of blackshark2. I'd have thought that content wise they were the same. I've not had BS1 installed for a long time so none of its files can be used in the upgrade version. Is it solely about how it goes about querying your serial numbers?
  7. damn it. i really do have issues with corrupted downloads, this is where digital distribution falls on its arse. ah well maybe tomorrow:(
  8. woohoo, big list of stuff to check out, thank ED
  9. i dunno i get on pretty good with my x52. I'd really hate to put someone off buying a joystick for £40. it is almost impossible for it to be worse than a gamepad or keyboard. I've no experience with the thrustmaster stick you're looking at unfortunatly but the i found the logitech extreme 3d to have a very forward tilted stick which just felt odd after having a microsoft sidewinder2 previously (i liked that stick but the force feedback wouldn't play ball with early builds of Blackshark).
  10. no thats the correct format (well it works anyway, I've used DXT1 no alpha as well) How is your file structure and do you know how the description.lua works in the liveries folder? contrary to the link in the above post, i tend to save my new textures in a newly created folder in the liveries folder. copy a description .lua from another livery then edit it for my own needs. all entrys in the description .lua that refer to textures stored along side it in the livery folder need the last part of the line changing from 'true to 'false'. the below image shows my new texture folder containing all the required textures and the description.lua open in notepad+. any entry that ends in true or any entry that is not there at all (you'll notice there is no specular maps, normal maps or textures for the pilot etc) will use the default texture stored in ?:\DCS A-10C\Bazar\World\textures\A-10. Maybe you know all this allready but it might help i guess.
  11. after you've flown a training mission is the track stored anywhere at all? just did my best ever landing and ran out of fuel half way through my roll out. I hope i don't need to get down to fumes every time i wanna land:)
  12. surely the tailwheel glitch is only with it unlocked and wont effect anything but tight taxi control. my problems generally dont start untill the tail wheel leaves the ground. I can do three point take offs pretty easy but if i try to let the tail come up before i lift off i struggle. really not getting too consistant at landings yet at all.
  13. my understanding was that the only influence you have over the tail wheel was to control its freedom of movement, ie +6 to -6 degrees with the stick held back or fully free with the stick held forward. I think the turning force actually comes from the air flow hitting the rudder, or by using differential braking. try stopping, hold one brake on and the stick forward and rudder hard toward the braked side then give a big ole' blip of throttle to send some wind against the rudder, it will turn on a dime, probably about 3 times. If i'm well wrong on this apologies, i've only had the game a few hrs and had a quick read of manual, This is just how i understood it and is how many tail draggers i've tried in FSX work. edit: actually just re-read the manual and it sounds like i'm wrong, gonna have to test it.
  14. I thought as much and Its not as big an issue as possibly i made it sound although I am semi tempted if/when i buy DCS Mustang to create a seperate account for it.
  15. At the present i have both A10 and Blackshark 2 installed on my pc, Each one was bought seperatly as a standalone game but registered to my single ED account. As things stand, if i were to install one of them to a second pc in my house, would i be able to play them multiplayer against each other? (trying to get a mate to give it a go) If this is possible then I'm guessing that when DCS world is released and all the stand alone products become a single installation then this will no longer be possible (it'll be a single key checking against the server). Of course if i'd purchased these games through steam it would allready be impossible to play them against each other. I think in the future we should be allowed one instance of DCS world in use per module we own (given that modules are full price games). instead of the multiplayer server checking an ED Account or a DCS World key it should check the module key to prevent duplicate/pirate copies playing online. Technically if i'd bought every module ED ever released and had a room full of pcs why could i then not have a bunch of mates, one fly the p51, one the a10, one the shark and another be a spotter in combined arms and so on for future releases. It shouldn't be illegal if every person was playing a 30 quid module! Not moaning, just lookin out for my interests, some of my assumtions may well be wrong.
  16. a lot of games will use a slightly simpler model for client aircraft which might explain the prop and shadow issues, this is assuming that the screen shot is taken from the pilot of 88s PC. no idea how ED manage this but its the same reason most AI models are less complex, Helps yer pc to manage.
  17. I'm sure this is an issue within the game with Saitek pedals, its been talked about before but never sorted. The ctrl/enter axis check window and the axis editing pane of the controls menu both show some funny goings on with the saitek toe brake axis but the Windows game controler or saitek axis indicators show it working perfectly (they also work perfectly in every other game i've tried)
  18. I guess i'll need all my serial numbers for bs1 (retail) bs2(upgrade) and a10 warthog to enable the a10 and blackshark modules in DCS world. I'm waiting for it to come out of beta but when the time comes will it make any differance if i've uninstalled the standalone versions beforehand? sorry if i'm jumping the gun I'll bet on release there will be full documentation of installation procedures.
  19. well i bit the bullet, Came to 26 pounds and some pence which ain't bad, what is bad is that i'm on my 4th attempt at downloading it! 1st try: pc took a fit and BSODed after 1 gig 2nd try: got full download only to have a corrupt .cab file during install. 3rd try: some message about not being able to save file because scource is not found (about 2 hrs after dl start, while at work) 4th try: resorted to using a download manager, is in progress now, fingers crossed. Fortunately if i need to see realistic shoddy weather i can look out my window and if this download fails again i will realise my dream of flying in shoddy weather by jumping out my window! :)
  20. cool thanks guys, i hadn't noticed that they take paypal which i think lets you know your total in pounds before its finalized may well get that downloading tonight. :)
  21. where did everyone buy it from? Did you all get it from the flight sim store (based in Australia) RustyM specifically to you, how much did it cost by the time all currency changes and taxes were applied (assuming you got it from the fs store) and by the way I'm an EGPH flyer too, the VFR vol 8 photo scenery for Scotland South is pretty impressive just need some beautifully rendered shoddy Scottish weather to go with it now.
  22. here's hoping that a nice price drop in ssd drives will coincide with the final release of DCS world. So i can kill 2 birds with a fresh install.
  23. Although i do feel for people who cant afford to upgrade (me included) or cant justify the amount of hassle an upgrade might mean just for gaming (and again). At some point games makers must move on and i do agree that ED should state clearly if 32bit OS are not supported, it is a fact that 64bit is not 'the next thing' its the current thing and OS aside 32bit hardware is probably getting a bit on the old side for running a modern Sim. God knows i dread the day i have to build a new system, a well established rig is like an old friend.
  24. I am for sure interested how its done. I'm specifically interested in what is new in the shaders/game engine of p51 and DCS world. I did try using a custom description.lua to define some spec maps to my A10, it did something but not the same as when i changed the default spec maps. I'm guessing i got the channel number wrong in the description.lua
  25. yes Vulcan 607 by Rowland White is a fantastic book. Something like 17 aircraft (Victors and Vulcans) took off from Ascension island and by doing pyramid refuelling managed to get just a solitary Vulcan down to the Falklands to give the Argentine forces a 2000lb wake up call and deny them Stanley's runway.
