  1. Does anyone know what the optimal speed is for turning in the A-10?
  2. so is it possible on F-16 to drop dumb bombs in CCRP on moving targets? I really don't remember...
  3. I was talking about dropping dumb bombs in CCRP mode on moving targets - sorry for the confusion The computer should be able to anticipate the vectors of the moving target that is locked in the TGP and place the CCRP release point correpondigly. This worked in Falcon F-16 (as far as I remember). But Im not sure if it was possible due to the A-G radar. Now Im wondering if that simply doesn't work in an A-10 or it is not implemented right?
  4. Hi, I'm wondering why it is not possible to CCRP moving targets? As far as I remember that was possible with the F-16 in Falcon. Is it because it has a radar?
  5. Hi. From time to time I have issues reaching the ATC tower, tanker, JTAC, etc. ... I'm familiar with the radios themselves and I know I have set the right frequencies as I can hear other players talk to ATC for instance. However, mostly when I place a call I get sometimes no repsonse. I also noticed that sometimes when I open the communication menu it says 'Intercom'. So I tought I turn this dial (at the very back of the left panel) to select around between VHF, ... . Doesn't help. Any idea?
  6. so the only workaround is to violently move the mouse around after pressing ATL + C to get back the pointer?
  7. I have exactly the same issue ... any solution yet?
  8. I know the HOF settings ... it doesn't change the fact that if I drop a cluster bomb over 6 tents and 4 of them are still there something is wrong. Even if the spread is larger, such soft targets are ripped apart. If not directly from the bomb then from other ricochets. I see these kind of strange modelling all over the place. Especially with bombs such as Mk-82s. Those things are dumb and most of the time you don't hit a target directly. But that is not necessary. If I drop 3 Mk-82s 20ft around light- or non-armored targets they are gone! Not in DCS!
  9. Thats all true ... but a CBU-87 is a cluster bomb and flattens every soft target beneath it which includes a tent. I think it is simply not modelled right.
  10. I generated a cenario with some tents and dropped two CBU-87 on them. One or Two tents were damaged. Should a CBU-87 flattend them all????
  11. I never had issues with CBU-87 on the A-10 1.1.1.1. Now when I drop a CBU-87 and I'm looking at the explosion the FPS goes down to 1. Did they change animations or something like?
  12. I usually use the keypad 0 (Zero Key) + 1 ... to make adjustments such as setting up the radio. This doesn't work with DCS World A-10 anymore. Any idea how to get the function back?
  13. Yes - mistake - I remembered it wrong when reading it :D
  14. It was mentioned several times ... I could find only this reference quickly: check p. 85 in W. Smallwood. Warthog - Flying the A-10 in the gulf war. "At about 46,000 pounds, loaded with six Mark-82s or six CBUs, two Mavericks, two Aim-9s, ECM pod, flare pods, 1,150 rounds of 30mm and full fuel, they labored up to 20,000 feet where they cruised just above the stall speed of the plane"
  15. Reagarding the weapons - In that particular book they mentioned several times following loadout: 6 x Mk82 6 x CBU (didn't say which type) 2 x Mavs (I think it was H) 2 x AIM9 It was interesting to read that they wanted to load 4xMavs but those racks were unreliable and they had to go with only 2xMavs. They also mentioned first they drop all bombs on priority targets. Usually all six Mk82s with one drop and then the rest. They switched to AGM only at the end which was mainly due to the lack of a TGP at that point in time. They used the Mavs to spot targets.
  16. @ConfirmingKills: It was interesting to read that the pilots had a hard time confirming kills. Tanks often didn't explode or Smoked using the GAU so they had to falg them as a potential kill. @Kaiza What is exactly simulated in DCS? As far my understanding goes the A-10 is for CAS missions. To be able to do that other flights engaged and eliminated air-defenses. So in A-10 deployment scenarios you end up having AAA and IR SAMs (e.g. manpads) left. However, DCS missions and user missions (especially a lot of the multiplayer) missions are covered with SAM. The A-10 is not a SAM hunter.
  17. Hi, I'm just reading the book "Warthog - Flying the A-10 in the gulf war" (by William L. Smallwood) primarily because I want to learn more about realistic scenarios and problems. I haven't finished the book yet, but I already noticed following severe discrepancies between DCS and user created mission scenarios - personally I always had the feeling that there are way too many SAMs: It seems that in the gulf war the A-10 had very little trouble with radar guided air-defenses. Before A-10 got into the target area the radar-guided sites were wiped out and flight packages were on station in case a radar lights up. The major issue they had was mainly from AAA which could be easily avoided by staying over a certain height. The other major threat came from IR guided weapons - especially SA-16 seemed to be a feared weapon. HOWEVER, they flew tons of missions during night and according to the book the A-10 is so silent that none of the ground forces could hear them if they were above 5000ft. Therefore, they could easily make their rounds around the target zone to identify and pick-up targets without beeing targeted or noticed. I also noticed an interesting tactic which I have zero ability to reproduce in A-10: They flew high-altitude tactics which means they tried to keep over 8000ft. So when they used the Gatling they dove 40 to 60 degrees and took out tanks, APCs from 8000ft!!! Is anybody able to take out tanks from 8000ft in DCs??? Also they droppped like 6 Mk-82s from that height taking out a lot of targets such as aritellery sites. This was mainly due to the blast and secondary explosions from the ammunition on the ground as those hits weren't really precise. This is almost impossible in DCS. If I drop an Mk-82 next to an artillary they almost never get really damaged.
  18. Just had the time to play the mission - I got shot down at some point while I was bombing the camp but really enjoyed the mission so far. I hope we see more of these great missions .... IMHO thats the kind of missions I would expect that DCS ships ... Keep up the good work!
  19. @VoiceOvers: I'm wondering if you have considered using AT&Ts Text-To-Speech? http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php There are several voices available. @Realism: Mauser is right regading the absence of JTAC. In this video a reporter is flying in an F-15 a CAS. It starts to get interesting at 4:30min
  20. HI, I briefly played it today ... this mission is again absolutely great!! Unfortunaltely I crashed due to lack of attention :-) I had two major issues: When the convoy approached the city they messaged that there is tall building with soldiers on top. So I leveled that place. It turned out to be friendly fire :-( I would explicily mention that they are approaching friendlies ... After that minor "incident" the convoy was followed by BMPs. Well ... I took out a BMP which was also one of ours. The vehicle appeared with the message, was flagged with an X but it wasn't there before and I tought it has been marked intentionally. Besides that the mission is really really great! I would want to see more of these type of missions.
  21. Hi, As one of the posters said look down from an airplane after 15min of flight. It is pretty easy to spot cars driving around. HOWEVER - it is a bigger challenge with military vehicles when deployed for combat - even more so with anti-aircraft. I have been in the army and everyone else who has been can tell you that vehicles (jeeps, transports, armored, ...) are fully camouflaged when deployed in the woods. Not talking about that their paint won't reflect. It is so incredibly difficult to spot them from ground when they are camouflaged properly. I guess the same applies from air ... I would say the only real chance to spot them with bare eyes is when they are moving or firing. One time at night, with night vision goggles on(!), I only realized that I'm in front of a radar guided AAA site when I was approx 15m away from it. It was so perfectly camoflaged! The funniest moment was when a guy stepped out the ground and I realized Im standing next to a MG position that secures the AAA. :-)
  22. yes .. Pitot Heat makes sense ... but why does it work again once I recover from a dive?
  23. Hi, I noticed this issue a couple of times ... I was approaching the airfield and did way ahead a stronger dive (approx. 20-30), pulled back throttle, expanded airbreaks slightly and suddenly the airspeed went way down and stopped at ~50. Warnings go on and the gear handle flashes - similar warning pattern to if you fall below 150 and have not extended the gears. Is this a bug?? I was definetly way over 200!! Once I recovered from the dive the warning stops and the airspeed goes up to normal. I had no damages... Any idea?
  24. Just played this mission .... ITS AWESOME!! Thanks! One minor issue I had was when Jaguar reached the extraction zone they messaged that there is some movement on the road S/W of their location. I found a truck (as mentioned before civilian) and took that out. I didn't get that the threat was an infantry unit more or less right next to them. Im also not sure that there is enough time to take them out...
  25. This is great!!! Thanks!
