  1. Stratos, the 'airborne troops' feature is currently not working -it has an unfortunate and very frustrating history of this -which is a real shame. With-out describing it fully, if making a mission with transportable (airborne troops) you have to put troops into a mission and tick the 'transportable' tag and then go into the advanced WP actions and allocate them to a helo or helo type. You'd also have to have a helo similarly adjusted in advanced WP actions to pick-up and disembark them. As you have found, you then use the radio menu to embark and disembark them -which is great when it works! I don't understand why this feature is so fragile -it is very frustrating to those of us who love helo transport ops -rather deminishes the sim which is sad.
  2. Often, we don't get any word on these changes, which is a shame. But I have tested this pretty thoroughly now and there is deffinately (in Open beta) a change to the damage model.
  3. That might be true, but I know from much experience that just a few hits caused death before, whereas now you can take far more before getting clobbered.
  4. Dusty, you got the last OB patch? (sorry, I should have mentioned that) This is thus not yet updated on the regular game AFAIK. I tested it again today, and had a hovering gun battle (door gunner me) against a platoon of AK armed geezers -about 1/2 click distant and it lasted about 30 secs -I killed some of them but yes, at that point -and after MANY hits from them, my Hip did splutter and go in. But, this was impossible previously.
  5. Just had another hour messing about in the Mi-8, and against troops -which easily shot you down with even only 1 burst from an AK- you can now stand and fight (only for so long though!) and I hovered and blazed away with my heavy door gun until the platoon shot me down -but not until I'd killed about 3-4 of them -that was about 30 secs of hovering action. I'd say that was about right considering I was about 1/2km away. Never would have got away with this before. Nice!
  6. I love the Hip but -because it was so easy to shoot down- didn't use it that much. However I took it into action last night (2/4/20) and not expecting anything, noticed some changes. It doesn't VRS so 'hard' but doesn't like being manoeuvered quite so vigorously. Feels more forgiving I think. And, with-out doubt it now takes punishment considerably better! Those who have used in a 'danger areas' know to watch for ANY threat as a well-aimed stone could bring it down. On the experience of yesterday it is more as it should be I think. I was hit by 3 good bursts from a BTR and it was only the last of those that started to cause issues. Hallelujah! We can get stuck in!:pilotfly: I did notice 'issues' with the command of certain weapons and flare dispensors -not looked at this yet but I had issues here that weren't there before. All-in-all, I like what I saw so far! BTW one of my squad collegues noticed some handling changes to his Ka-50 also -but I can't comment there.
  7. I notice since flying the Hip last night (2/4/20) that the thing seems far more robust -hadn't used it for a few weeks 'in action' but last night I was hit by 3 bursts from a BTR and only on the last hits did I start to experience any problems. Previously, a bloke with a poorly maintained AK-47 could easily shoot down an Mi-8 from a mile away... Looks like it's about where it should be now damage-wise?
  8. When I first got into flight simming (mid-1990's) I didn't have access to MP due to the early days of the internet etc. I don't feel like I knew what I was doing till the day in the early 2000's when I got online and joined a squad. Really is the way to learn stuff, being in a like-minded group and being able to work together on stuff. Invaluable!
  9. 159th Guards Aviation Regiment - The Pirates of the Crimean! Bombing, shooting and drinking since 2003 A squad that was founded flying Russian aircraft exclusively, we have found this harder to maintain in recent times due to the release almost entirely of western airframes, and as such we are open to flying many of those available to DCS, which these days are mostly the F/A-18, AV-8B, AJS-37, Ka-50, Mi8MT and Gazelle. We do retain our original fast-movers the Su-27/33 and Su-25 T and A. We do fly other types as desired in ad-hoc flights. We have members who are located in Europe and North America and we have a dedicated server that is located in Germany. Our regular Sunday squad-flights are held on our own dedicated server and these take place at 20:00 UK time throughout the year. The dedicated-server is available to anyone to use at all other times of the year, and we welcome requests for specific mission if desired, to use during non-squad running. Our comms are via Discord and in-game we use SRS to add some realism to precedings. For the most part we build our own missions, many of which have a carrier based element involved. We try to incorporate a mix of mission types and this includes helo operations which have been a big part of our ops since they were first introduced into DCS. We have our long established –though currently in need of updating- web-site and our own squad-forums. The web-site is due for replacement with Facebook and Discord pages. Our squad has never ceased to operate in the time since being introduced in 2003 and we intend on being here for many more years –although perhaps with changes over time if these become necessary dependant upon the direction DCS heads with their modules etc. If you would like to have a look at our squad or learn more, then head over to our web-pages and forums –thanks for the interest, Archer CO 159th GAR. For info re our squad, please use only our forums as no other source is monitored daily. http://159thgar.com/forums2017/index.php
  10. Hi Pwgilbert, sorry just seen this -are you asking for the 159th's details? If so, we fly every Sunday at 20:00 UK time whatever that translates to your time -can tell you that if you let us know where you are. We have a mix of Europeans and North Americans (US and Canada) in flights usually and the NA people are flying in the middle or afternoon parts of the day if that helps at all. To get to our forums just click on the link on the post above which will bring you there. Or click here; http://159thgar.com/forums2017/

  12. Our squad -the 159th GAR- flies both although only the Ka-50 get used regularly these days due to all the exciting new toys around. There are a few of us who can fly the T-toad and know it well :pilotfly: http://www.159thgar.com/
  13. OK thanks for the responses -I forgot to mention this seems to be occuring in MP not SP mode. I briefly tried the BK-90 off-line in SP and they seemed fine -it was only in MP on-line that the issue seemed to be there. Will do further tests when I have time in the week. Thx!
  14. Just bought the Viggen in the sale and liking it, but on using the BK-90 I am finding that they're flying slightly too long and going to the right. Thus they are often exploding about 100metres too far and always on the right of the targets -am I forgetting something or missing a setting? It would possibly suggest a megnetic compass setting is wrong? Which reminds me that the mag setting dial on the right doesn't appear to change when twiddling around with it. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.
  15. Not -as yet- got the Gazelle, but any of the other 3 are good. My favourite is the Hip -I'd say pick that because of the cargo/troop abilities plus the weapons availability including the door gunners. Not brilliant at taking on armour or any heavy threats, but great fun to operate.
  16. Yes I get this -can't see any option to adjust ROF so we're stuck with it until fixed?
  17. Apologies, I could have sworn I checked the default skins, just rechecked and they are indeed fine. Looks like something has changed in the Su-25 model and our squad-skin needs work. Default models are fine. Ignore the above post.
  18. I noticed IIRC at the end of December last that both the A and T model Frogfoots were suffering from an issue with the place where the AC number is, and in the case of the 25A also the complete undercarriage has reverted to what I assume is some sort of build texture. See below for what I see. I was away for most of January and on my return it's still there -any chance of sorting soon? Thx Archer.:)

    new option

Well, that translates into game avionics mode -and TBH I can't remember what it does but I will try and remember -sorry can't answer it ATM.

  21. C-130 would be great indeed -as would the Il-76 -which is a very versatile aircraft itself. I don't think any transport AC that can't move useful stuff and do rough field landings or drop paras would be much sought after generallly? Speaking of which it'd be nice to have those combat AC that can rough-field operate fully implemented... including just simply operating from roads and being able to be supplied when doing so. (I know they can land there and 'use' FARPs in some cases, but not easily).
  22. I do think the Hip is far too fragile in game -I fly it quite a bit and generally speaking when you encounter troops you hear 'tink, tink, grind, crash bang etc' and next action is to call for an ambulance. I try to keep moving near any OPFOR and avoid being stationary. Like most here I can only speculate, but from reading such books as 'Chickenhawk' about Hueys in 'Nam, they could (depending upon where hit of course) take quite a few hits and be mostly untroubled. The Hip must surely be at least as robust as the Huey.
  23. Don't remember having to align the INS before -I will look into that but can you easily relay how that's done if possible? Thanks for the quick replies.
  24. Not flown this fantastic module of late, mainly due to flying mainly in MP and having some probs with AV8-b in MP. Having come back to it, I find I am missing something during start-up and switching everything on. I have the HUD come-on, but the heading display at the top is locked on -00- and doesn't move, also, I can't get the usual additional engine info etc up onto the HUD. Can anyone remind me what I'm forgetting or what has changed? BTW I have tried to look for any new info on the above, but can't find any. Thx!:)
  25. Maybe you would be best getting the FC3 era aircraft -such as the Su-25 (A or T), Su-27/33, MiG-29 etc. Mainy of us here have 'grown-up' and learned with these now better represented flight charachteristics, but simple systems and thus you'd get used to handling the aircraft without being overwhelmed with pushing buttons.
