I once suggested a KA-50 mission based on the Apocalypse Now movie. Some people were shocked by the fact that it was unethical. I totally agreed. This footage is from the Syrian civil war. Right now people are dying over there. You're talking about how cool the explosion is. Do I need to add anything? Yeah - we're playing war games... or sims - whatever. Pretty please, as stupid as it sounds: refrain from using such examples. Hollywood movies are at least pretty far from reality. This footage is not only real. It's happening right now.

That would do the trick - any pointers on how to do that?

Hellos, I often fly missions using the Fast mission generator. An issue that has often occurred lately is that I get the New Year paint job. I fear my enemies do not take me seriously when I'm wearing that. Is there a way to remove it somehow? I know I can edit the mission after generating it - but removing the skin would be much more convenient (no need to check the skins each time I generate a mission). Thanks very much.

They've recently allowed me to re-download a Lock On purchase I made prior to X-mas: the game is still available via digital download from what I've seen (in Canada at least). I had lost the install files after a OS upgrade, support was very kind in allowing me to download it again past the initial 1 month. Canada store here: http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubina/en_CA/search/vars.false?q=lock+on Hopefully it is available in other countries. Cheers,

That makes sense, did not think of it that way. I just did something I should have done a while ago: opened the manual. Section 10-2. So that was my last stupid question :smartass: Thanks again,

Hey guys, I much prefer to take off vertically, but the control tower does not seem to agree with me that it's cool to do so. Wingmates will always taxi to runway. So what I understand is that vertical take off should not be performed, is this correct? Or is there a way to perform Vertical take off in compliance with the military protocol, and its just not coded yet? Just wondering ;) Thanks in advance. PS - searched but did not find this topic, if I'm blind, sorry for the duplicate.

First off: this ain't meant to be a realistic mission. Had some fun last night building this (for which you require to be the owner of some copyrighted work). Here are the steps. 1. On the shore somewhere, add a bunch of infantry running randomly and one AAA 2. Create a trigger Zone close to that shore 3. Link the trigger zone to the following event: player enters zone: play sound file - Ride of the Vakyries from the great R. Wagner (you can get this on several Wagner collections or on the Apocalypse Now soundtrack). 4. Have several wingmen (we were 2 players with 3 each, 8 choppers total) 5. Create proper waypoints 6. Lift off, ride the wind to the Shore... cheers, edit: no offence intended - I'm not suggesting Vietnam was not horrible, like all wars for that matter. That's just a popular helicopter scene. Think of Hot Shots. Just a stupid idea. And don't worry the infantry is going to shoot back. I removed the link, people that saw the film will get the reference.

Sobek, Groove, With all due respect, maybe your reaction is a bit over the top. PeterP added some interesting info that was on topic if you ask me... And the long first post opens the way for a very open ended discussion. First off, he is also complaining about QA missing the mark with content release - from what i understand at least. To say that, a person must have a very limited understanding of game development. QA'ing a game such as the DCS series is enormous., and to be quite honest, i'm very surprised it has come out with so few bugs. Keep in mind that PC game dev is way more complex than console. I have no idea how many testers worked on the project. But just as an example: I was QA Lead on SW: The force unleashed. We had 25 PS3 tester, 25 xbox testers, 20 Wii and 20 PS2. That was external ressources only. LA had a smaller internal QA team. The game came out with a great number of bugs that were closed as "will not fix" (I'll keep the number secret, but it's in the thousands), as the team was unable to fix everything in time for launch. DCS is ten times more complex to QA than anything I ever touched. I salute them for their great work. I also believe that outsourcing bug resolution is a bad idea. Outsource QA, not bug fixing. Makes no sense to have someone else fix the code that you wrote. Well, to the very least, it will not improve the process. Not everyone writes clean code, imagine if your the 10th person in line trying to fix the flaws. Hacks will be everywhere. At least the programmers were I work think that would be pretty bad. also - i'm 35 ;)

Yeah when I saw the button to transform my A10 into a giant robot was missing, I figured that what I've been seeing in the movies might not be the exact replica of reality ;) ...or DCS is trying to sell us a fake illusion of reality. Waitaminute... maybe my plane should transform into a robot after all...

Frostiken - understood! Thanks for the feedback everyone. And yes - damn Hollywood. :smilewink:

While I totally agree that the best course of action when damaged is to fly home, there are some exceptions where you just need that extra fly-by that would cause much extra damage... and where the risks of doing so are limited. Basically the risk of attempting that maneuvers is out weighted by the impact that (successful) maneuver could have on a battlefield's outcome. All I needed was that one extra fly-by. Empty the 850 rounds i had left on those suckers - then head back home. In this particular case, the place was relatively empty other than that specific group (which was already damaged, other units were destroyed) so risks were minimal (although never at zero of course). Yes, a bad maneuver can end very badly - that's what happened the first time around. But I know what mistake i did, and the damage to the plane did not cause any maneuverability issues. In the end I did the fly by successfully - the gun just did not shoot when required. For me that was the most dangerous part: starting to look around wondering why the hell the bombs (GBUs) could be released but the guns just won't respond. Had I known prior how to override damaged systems, those guys would not be in the field killing my buddies anymore ;) ...but I have no military experience, so what i described may be a decision making process based on hollywood movies rather than real life hehehe

Hey folks, First off - i haven't read all the manual, forgive me for that, especially if the information is in there and quite obvious; but I haven't seen it at first glance. I'm ok with most system for the A10, but there's one thing that I've heard in a documentary that I was wondering if it was possible in DCS (or if the A10C has this feature): when primary systems are down due to aircraft damage, do we have a backup (or legacy) system to recover some weapon functionality? For example: last night I got shot by some BTR 80 - both screen were OK but I had the big yellow box overlapping the displayed info with the following message (approx, not at home to have the exact text so it's off the top of my head): CDU not ready. I had some CCIP GBU's already selected and I was able to drop them regardless of the warning mentioned above. I damaged the targets with a close hit (but no bullseye) and then wanted to proceed and send some lead there way with my charming GAU 8 to finish up the work. Pressed the trigger... denied. Gun is dead. In this situation, do I have an option to override current systems to have some sort of workaround to fire the guns? I have a track for that mission. If it would help I can upload tonight. Thanks a ton.

What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?
Prolixite replied to csper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
ED has made the best sims ever so far, why don't you people just trust them to make some more? The train station sells tickets to many destinations... you buy the ticket you want for the destination you want: but don't tell the station to stop selling tickets for Boston 'cause you don't like Boston. ... And i can't wait to fly any new DSC sim, except for a Wright brother's plane sim... Unless you mount a GAU 8 on it. GAU-8 i love you so much. You're so hot you need to spin to stay cool. Have a nice day. -
Yes - please add a logbook for MP: I play this game almost exclusively with friends and this is seriously lacking. There is little feeling of progression so the game can become less attractive very fast (don't get me wrong, this game is absolutely awesome, but more focus is required for MP gaming). Would love to unlock medals, keep track of stats, completed missions info and the like. Exactly the same as the single player Logbook and i'm a happy man. So... Pretty pretty please with sugar on top, can we have a MP logbook? ;)
