I'm not sure if this is the right place for this request but... Can you guys Change my name when you have a moment - sorry I fouled up when I created my profile and it's bugging me! ...from incorrect - Viamanaman - sounds like a homosexual capitalist prostitute... ...But I've got nothing against gay capitalist prostitutes, I hasten to add. To correct - Vimanaman - i.e. Pre-classical Vedic chariot of the Gods, pilot - yeah I know, some way to go yet! Hope you can help me out. Thanks Vimanaman

You've definitely got to stay on top of the rudders all the way - it gets very 'busy' a soon as the tail lifts, and stays that way until you're up, and are able to re-trim. Fast Feet or 'Feet alive' as Shahdoh says. When it all goes to plan and everything's balanced it's great, but this is most definitely difficult and does take lots of practise - I'm only proficient when I practise A LOT.

Just gonna bump this in case Stealth Eagle doesn't see my edit - [Edit - for exactly what key commands you need to set up bombs & rockets, check out - OPTIONS / CONTROLS / FRONT SWITCH BOX (make sure the 'LAYER' is set for how you play P51) - sorry think I missed the key part of your Q - End edit] Sorry Stealth Eagle missed the precise nature of your Q 1st time around - hope this helps.

I still find take off challenging - it definitely takes my total concentration - I don't practise full TO to LDG missions often enough - starting and stopping missions in the air too often. One thought on TO's, you're more technical than I am Bill so you'll no doubt know this already, but on the long concrete strips in DCS World at the moment, 50MP (generally) is enough and reduces torque. But practise does indeed make ALL the difference IMO - when I've practised circuits in the past it has become second nature but as soon as I do something else like purely dogfighting, or flying the Shark - it goes away quite quickly - it definitely becomes quite a lot harder quite quickly. Like Jcomm I also don't worry about the ball on TO's and LDG, the ground references do that for you - & someone here suggested that during TO or LDG roll, looking at the 'No Hold' pad whilst monitoring the runway edge geometry / picture, in your peripheral vision, gives a good sense of motion relative to the centre line - it helped me - although I still use my original technique of looking at the junction between the right side of the cockpit window and the runway edge in combination with this method.

Can anyone help me test a MP training mission?
VIMANAMAN replied to VIMANAMAN's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Yeah that's a good idea for a training mission - I did try and flick Shift F2 - while we were flying yesterday but realised it needed to be set in the mission prep. I'll do that. [edit: and I'll add some AI adversaries, also some fixed positions to attack, like arti might be good - I'm on it] -
HI Stealth Eagle - go through the training mission on ground attack, just once will do it - it will walk you through it - I know boring! - but to be honest I can't remember the switches you need to set without the cockpit in front of me - it's simple, and all in the arming and settings, as per usual - if you get properly stuck after that then check back here and we'll help you out. [Edit - for exactly what key commands you need to set up bombs & rockets, check out - OPTIONS / CONTROLS / FRONT SWITCH BOX (make sure the 'LAYER' is set for how you play P51) - sorry think I missed the key part of your Q :) - End edit]

Can anyone help me test a MP training mission?
VIMANAMAN replied to VIMANAMAN's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Hi Masje, You'd certainly be more than welcome to join this mission for some MP whenever it's up - I need to develop it more first - it's seriously basic at the moment - But will do this before / on the weekend and then invite any and all. Might be a few basic rules but we'll see. Once I am happy with it, the only problem then is time - I can't have it running loads as it's my only machine. I don't fly many week nights, I work too many hours :(, but most weekends it can be up if people are interested in our part of the globe. [edit: or from all over the globe if it works:) end edit] The test yesterday was a success thanks to Bill's help - and it showed it's fairly easy to set your own 'server' up. Look into it if you want to fly MP, when you want to fly MP, if you follow :) Can offer basic advice if needed. Cheers V -

Most definitely - that's awesome fun - thanks for your help with it & for walking me through set up of MP. I'll improve the mission as best I can, and we'll have another go. I'll also run it without a password soon, when it's tweaked a bit, so anyone who wants to join can - and see how that goes. Thanks again Bill -

Nice one Horseback-1 - really appreciate it. As this may not get off the runway can I leave your kind offer for this initial test - if all goes according to plan then that would be awesome in the near future dude. Thanks again dude -

Hi Bill, Got to get my audio devices switched over, launch the program and work out Skype, so I should be good to go in about 30-40 mins (it's 8:35 GMT at the mo, your going on Cairo time mate:)) I'm getting set - big ta. -

Hey Fakum - I'd seen your post before and was liking the sound of your setup - was just concerned about the time dif - I'll drop you a PM in the next day or two and see when you guys are getting together and see if your happy to have me along and if I can hack the time dif :) Thanks -

Hey BIll, That would be cool mate if your still game tonight - have just got in - will run it at 10pm GMT. Will Skype you. Awesome. -
I've designed a fairly simple P51 (only) MP training mission which I've tested, it seems to work fine but I need some help to test it from a 'clients' point of view - I can host it (well that's one of the things I'm testing, but can't see why it wouldn't work). It consists of a red and a blue base with CAP, CAS and Groud Attack armed AC , together with simple naval and army convoys (1 each red & blue) as targets, plus the opportunity to dogfight. All defensive weapons are AAA or machine guns (no SAMS). Initially I'm just looking for a friendly test pilot to let me know they can fly it and it works, and that it makes sense as a MP training arena. I've got TS but don't know how to 'harness' a server. Also have Skype which apparently can be used as an alternative - failing that I'd be happy to type hello occasionally :) I understand that it's best if we're globally local (from a connection speed point of view) - I'm in the UK. Reply or PM whichever's best for you. This might be a short thread:) For some reason I'm worried this might not be the right place for this kind of request (forgive me Mods if so:))

Any VFW here doing purely AA combat?
VIMANAMAN replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Sheet I wish I lived in the States! A few VF groups dotted around I see. Am I right in thinking that the ping rate is critical to 'frame rates' and the further away from the the host / server you are globally speaking, the lower the ping / frame rate? That's what I understand, but new to MP - anyone know for sure? Not to mention the time dif :( -
Yeah it's real tuff to shoot them down isn't it - I've not flown that mission but generally speaking the damage model is a bit too robust at the mo - I'm quietly confident this will be resolved at some point before too long, maybe next update, maybe not, but soon I hope. Good job for getting solid hits by the sounds. Re speed: like I said I've not flown that mission, but 46' of manifold pressure and 2700 rpm (max continuous) is a good blend of power and durability, that and good trim should see you right. 50MP and 2800rpm is better again, but obviously you can't do that forever without something letting go. Good hunting!

Hey Kilo, I at least have hardly done any MP stuff but Bill and I are looking to set something informal up - let me get one session under my belt and then I'd be well up for flying with you dude. I've got a very simple A2A MP mission I've just rustled up which I'm pretty sure I can host, but not yet tested. It has all the essentials so should be fine. What GMT are you dude? Let me know and I'll get back to you soon - V -

Hey Bill, I'd be up for some MP A2A practise mate - I'm GMT - I want to do some SP today as I haven't flown in over a week - but tomorrow would be perfect for me - how about you? I've got an OK/good connection (usually) and TS but never used it - do we need to rustle up a quick MP / client orientated mission or do you have one / know of one already? I have only done a tiny bit of MP - but would be well up for it:) Let me know if this works for you. [Edit - Just worked out what VFW stands for - doh! - if you want some 1v1 practise let me know - End Edit] -
Hey ATAG Chair1 - I have a few SP missions that I've put together but they are extremely simple and not finished in any sense of the word. I tend to treat everything as 'training' at the moment. So i decide what i want to practise and rustle up a usually very simple mission, tweaking it to achieve what i want, but never really finishing it. I'm kind of waiting for the FW190 (at least) before getting stuck into making some more complex and believable scenarios... Hopefully others will offer something? I assume you've checked out the missions available to download - I think there's a few there. If you haven't already - take some time to learn at least the basics of the Mission Editor - the basics are dead easy (as you'll probably know) but you will get out of it what you put in - the only limitation is your imagination (almost), well plus the appropriate assets [edit - contemporary assets that is - end edit] (but this is changing) :). If I do anything that I call finished I'll post it but this won't be for a while.

Continuing with my monologue:) I've always wondered why delay fuses on air launched bombs, rockets, etc. aren't themselves disrupted immediately by the massive impact G's, (at least 500+mph). How can they still function after that? And why the basic weapon structure itself isn't so disrupted that it just doesn't detonate on impact anyway. Maybe my basic assumption about delay fuses is wrong? One bomb disposal / disarming technique I'm aware of is to use explosives to disrupt the devices' layout so much (& so quickly) that the weapon can no longer work?? Surely not dissimilar to going from 500+ mph to zero in a fraction of a second in terms of G forces? Slightly off thread...

Post your TACVIEW dogfights.. Help us become better
VIMANAMAN replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Yeah I've heard of this being done in actual one on one fights before - It makes a lot of sense to bluff for the time, (and the opportunity) to, all being well, zoom away to fight another day. As a pure training mode what Bill suggests would work well I think - I'd have used it to practise at the start had I thought of it. Complete freedom to work out the do's and don'ts of the engine. Develop manoeuvring technique, tactics and limitations - if it's pure training I'd be less concerned with the realism of it. In terms of general AI behaviour it would be good if the lower levels did indeed make some more foolish moves like just running away as you say when they run out of fireworks, or just losing contact when they shouldn't and speed stalls etc. But that's moving into another topic. -
This doesn't answer your Q any further, but check out the accuracy of the pilot ahead of the gun camera ship in the sequence that starts at 11ish seconds - rail line strike 3 or 4 pairs of rockets bang on where he wants them - awesome! I guess you use delay fused rockets the same as delay fused bombs (conventionally used bombs that is) - i.e. to hit a fixed target / position with more accuracy / less stand off / lower height etc., and still be sure you weren't going to frag your own machine at least?
-
Hey Rico, I don't know about rocket fusing options specifically, but bomb delayed fusing is not implemented at the moment, meaning skip bombing is currently not possible (hope this changes at some point). But I see why you ask as there's the setting knob on the weapons panel - I've never tried the delayed setting - But I'm guessing it's not implemented either at the mo. Hope I'm wrong tho.
