Mustang First Take-Off and Landing: Post your Tracks/Vids
VIMANAMAN replied to 159th_Viper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Yeah the vids of the Huey look really bloody nice! - I seriously can't wait either! BUT I dread to think what it's going to do to my rudder control with the Stang though :( Some online fun would be good - but finding time short even for SP at the mo - will PM you. -

Compared to mine and some others I've seen they show some good promise - I used to zig-zag all over the shop - you're keeping her straight. It just takes practise as you'll no doubt know... -
If find DW very much a case of 'trial & error', but I'm getting the results I want - the sticky thread on A10C forum will have some excellent guidance on making more of a science of it... I usually set two systems,(usually cyclonic), with pressure around the late nine hundreds - and then launch the flight (just to test the conditions). I jump around the map using F11 and if I want to check further detail I use LCTRL + F11 (free camera) and zoom over the mission objective or mountain pass, etc. to see how conditions are in that local. Sometimes I just set the systems then just hit 'generate' (lucky dip as it seems to set the system pressures at random) and use the chart symbols to pick a promising weather scenario for what I want and then check that out. Like I said there's probably better ways... Obviously when you find what you're looking for that scenario it can be saved and is fully repeatable. The wind thing I mentioned is simply that the wind speeds can be quite high (perhaps not surprising if I'm setting a couple of deep low pressure systems up:)) mid teens MPS etc.

Hi Weta43, Just in game I mean :) - I think ED needed a 'work around' for DW (?) and made 9:10 essentially overcast - I only happen to have tested it cos I was trying to fly through the 'holes' for a particular mission I was running and found there weren't any at 9:10... Cheers V

I haven't reviewed this entire thread but... shouldn't this thread be moved / duplicated in the DCSW forum? Only a suggestion like! Sorry if I'm interrupting any flow, cheers V.

Hi Demon, There's something wrong somewhere as it should look like this - at the static weather settings quoted? Shout if you can't solve it. Dynamic weather is really fun to play with - gotta watch the wind strength tho as it can get silly / big fun in my experience:) You've got to play around with it to work it out - (there's a sticky thread on D weather on the A10C forum). Cheers V

I don't think you've missed anything - when I say 10:10 - that's what you'd call it if you were at the field thinking about going flying - but in DCSW dynamic weather (as it sounds you know already) it's using the 9:10 setting as an overcast, because that's essentially what it is, only using the cumulus stock, rather than the 10:10 specific global overcast effect / graphic / model (whatever). Both 9:10 and 10:10 are a full overcast and have no breaks / holes in their cover.
-
RE dynamic weather - In case I mislead you with what I said... I don't know if it changes in a fixed location i.e. if the weather systems themselves move, I've not had time to test that (anyone know?). But rather the weather is different at different locations so as you move from A to B - it can change from say an overcast to a bright and sunny aspect, with different wind strength and direction (presumably pressure as well no doubt).

Hi Demon, This fog with no fog set seems strange!? You couldn't re-check that fog is not set could you, as I play with weather a fair bit and this doesn't seem right - I've sometimes found it's defaulted ON when I'm not expecting it? This looks a lot like fog is ON!? Sorry if your right and I'm wrong, but it really doesn't look right? I agree it would be nice to have some nice cumulus nimbus and whatever the next grade down is - but as far as good old bog std cumulus cloud goes - when you're near or in the layer I find the DCS clouds really rather good - you do need to be close to them tho - but they have real volume, scale, detail and the density seems (close to) right to me!? Very convincing when scooting through / around them I'm thinking. But yes big monsters in a patchy sky would be awesome! The cloud cover difference at 8 to 9 is massive, and caused me some head-aches on a mission I was flying... I agree. Dynamic weather is pretty cool took off in 10-10 conditions recently and landed in something like 2-10 in a couple of hours - I like that change. Anyways if you get a chance let me know on the fog thing - cheers V

DCS is truly awesome - the highly detailed flight models are truly exceptional! I watched a documentary the other day about the Battle of Britain and an elderly lady was interviewed, who was a ferry pilot during BOB (referring to Spitfires to be precise) her exact words were 'you only had to breath on the controls...' I love the feeling of, and level of, fine control with this DCS P51 - I'm not getting it right all the time yet but I can see it's pretty much all there, and in reach - it's my skill / level of control that's letting me down. (and I've been flying this for a while). It's practise, practise, practise...

Yeah TIR is an amazing bit of kit - well worth the investment - it opens the World up in a effortless and intuitive way - I find when I'm watching other peoples flt vids I often turn my head trying to look around! With the Shark (in the right mode) you can aim the gun with your head movements - which is really bloody nice! Anyways, yeah I really enjoy just blamming around in the Stang for no other reason than pure fun every once in a while.

Nice tenacity man! You don't give up! And nice kill!

Hey Kato, This looks really cool - hats off to you and all that have spent no doubt a lot of time on it - big thanks - nice one as I said. I was a bit guarded with my first reply as I couldn't work out where this was coming from but looks super fun - Q what sort of schedule is this on? Cheers V -
Some less than successful carrier landings...

I know what you mean... but this is one sensitive beast - I'm not a RL pilot but there are a lot around here who are, and know one has found a flaw in this Hi Fi FM that I'm aware of... Soft hands to find the edge of performance (very soft if no curves on your controller). You just need to practise it, some. ....well a lot to be honest. Stay below 10K ft, pull, and feel for the edge (making darn sure the ball is on the money). Sorry if you know the technique - the message is soft hands... (edit - sniped / out of date already but will leave it as one member to another - it just practise mate - end edit)
-
Hi Gavagai, I'm not sure I was clear mate, either that or I don't understand what you mean? What I'm wishing for, is to be able to reduce the AI fighting efficiency, in a realistic way, if good hits are scored. Rather than the AI performing at max efficiency, (even if its suffered multiple good hits), until suddenly a point is reached when it either surrenders or is defeated. I don't want to make it easier, it's awesome AI in my opinion! I just hope the AI DM will be developed further so hits and the effects of those hits are made more gradual and realistic (edit - & reduce fighting efficiency therefore - end edit). (Although I do think complete beginners would benefit from a easier 'lowest AI skill' setting).
-
The AI DM does need work IMO. The player DM feels about right i.e. pretty fragile / vulnerable to hits of any kind in the wrong place (realistic from what I read anyway). I suspect this is being looked at by ED, but as we know, these things take time. I can't see ED leaving this discrepancy in realism un-addressed for any longer than they have to. I'm guessing, but I hope that's the case. If the AI become comparatively susceptible to enemy hits, and the results of those hits (within the limitations of the sim) then knocking down the AI would become a whole lots easier as well. This would help people who think the FM is to 'terminator', as ANY good hit would start to gradually degrade AI performance.

Sounds like it will be fun & and a bit different to tangle with, as we're waiting for the FW. Sounds good! Nice one. -

Looks good! That would help enormously with the immersion. Presumably it's a new model, using the existing 51 AI FM? If I'm correct? A 'halfway house' I was hoping for from early on. I look forward to it with great interest.
