  1. I don't know if this has been mentioned before and frankly i don't have time to check, but coming in to land at MVody in Dynamic weather the two chimneys nearest the base were reacting to no wind, when all other chimneys were demonstrating a howling southerly.
  2. Appreciate your kind words (again) Jcomm (I never did say thanks earlier). Gonna keep me head down, but I'll be around again, after I stop feeling like such an ass! Nice one V
  3. Hell dammit! - I eff'd up yesterday - big time - I owe firstly Diehard, then Jcomm, and also Foul Ole Ron a big apology! Firstly DieHard I thought you were someone else Dude - I took some flak a good while back from someone and noticed they occasionally acted negatively to other members as well - I thought you were he - but did some digging tonight and it aint you - big sorry buddy! Sorry Jcomm for fouling up your thread for a bit. And dito Foul Ole Ron - sorry to be so adamant! I'll stick to flying for a bit;)
  4. No I think my intuition is correct. Thanks anyway guys. Edit - :) best regards DH - end edit
  5. Sorry No - I've thought about this a fair bit, as I don't won't to go off on one, with anyone, unfairly. But the bottom line is the inference is the only way to land on the angled deck of a carrier is with a cheat, or with high deck speed or high wind speed. And as immediately prior to this post I had said that this is not necessary - and demonstrated it!! - the inference is that I'm cheating! Sorry to disagree with you mate.
  6. Don't know why I'm bothering to do this but I don't take kindly to someone questioning my integrity. diehard if you'd like to explain which part of this poor lndg (early practise) is arrested by a hook? Yeah don't worry about apologising... PS - Sorry about bumping myself on your thread Jcomm.
  7. Following diehard's post here's the TRK file - quite a leap of logic there man! - Cos I do an OK landing I'm cheating? - keep it positive man or just keep it to yourself. P51 carrier lndg nice one x2 & good crash.trk
  8. Thanks bluepilot76 - here's the mission - it's very simple, literally only done because I wanted to see if landing on the angled deck was pos - I found it is, with flaps max, keeping some power on, speed as low as pos, pin the tail to the deck, and brake like your life depends on it :) I'm breaking alot of planes though... P51 Carrier.miz PS Let me know if the link doesn't work as not very familiar with attachments.
  9. You don't need high head winds or a particularly high speed deck... just 20kts into 3mps wind and landing slow is more than enough. Just line up with all the furniture out (modded tail hook?! not included) trimmed for as slow as she'll go, put it down very early, pin the tail to the deck with the elevators (to the stops), and break like crazy - making sure you release the brakes if the tail rises. Sounds like I'd better make the time to post the TRK.
  10. P51D test.miz Testifciation
  11. It can be done without upsetting the flight boss. This is with the ship steaming at 20kts into 3mps winds giving a slight xwind on landing. Real world scenerio - I understand these beasts can do 30+ knots and it's a light wind. Will post trk and mis if get time. Edit - real world scenerio!! I meant the ships speed and course - not the fact a P51 was trying to park on it - end edit
  12. Thanks Jcomm, I thought it was something like that - and seems I missed you earlier replies somehow - thanks for clarifying again. Sounds like you're having a hoot! Have done similar before, it's good to fly sideways occasionally:D I cut my teeth on IL2, loved it in the day - An yeah both the Hog and the Shark are worth the investment of time, as you'll know. I'm the same re just flying for the fun of it - although I do enjoy the military side of this awesome creation - I can still find plenty to keep me interested (& learning) just by flying patterns or A to B flights in different conditions. Am currently just flying circuits off the US carrier - didn't think it was possible to stop in time on the angled deck - If you haven't tried it yet, it sounds right up your street:) I have the boat doing 20kts into 4mps of wind - it's great when you do a good one (have re-invented the wheeler landing). Will post something. Anyways ta for reply, sorry missed your earlier posts - is it me or did this thread get laid down in record time.
  13. You don't quite get DCS by the sounds. Thanks anyway for your input.
  14. Hi Jcomm, Can you clarify what you're saying - it's hard to tell if you've just got a very high xwind going on or ....you've found some problem we've all missed!

    Clouds

Yeah sorry but I'm liking the DCS clouds a lot, when you're in the layer at least - it seems they render to higher res when you get closer (as per norm) - but they have real volume and scale - I've been messing with some aerobatics through them, over the last few weeks and I'm impressed. In fact very impressed - I think they have been further developed in recent updates(?) - you can fly over & through them like mountain peaks & valleys - there was a time not so long ago when they would do some crazy rotation thing which killed immersion - not no more. I understand what you're saying though - true multiple layers would be very cool - It would be cool to have all the usual cloud types to play with as well. From a distance they can look very generic at the mo. I think the base level does vary a little if you give the cloud height / depth 'enough room', but it's still seems essentially one layer from anything other than right in the middle of it.
  16. Nice kill - really nice. Seriously good shooting as well! Excellent stuff. Nice one Konrad
  17. Well don't let me put you off posting vids of good fights - others will really benefit, enjoy & learn from them, as will I (& I'll have nothing but positive things to say or I'll PM you). I'm currently working on a joy ride vid which was held up today by problems taking off from Beslan due to boiling coolant - It's almost impossible to TO from Beslan in the Stang without boiling the coolant - 1 success out of 5 with different seasons, temperatures and QNH - is it me or the altitude? Anyways really when you do a good fight (yeah check it first and all that) but really poeple here (beyond me) will want to see it. Respect Dude
  18. No apology necessary Konrad, really. If anything I owe you an apology - I should have PM'd you - sorry Dude! It's easily done - I've a number of different missions also and sometimes forget what I've changed, & when I come back to them I need to sort them out again. I didn't even notice the AI speed thing - that will have made a difference:) I have no doubt you're an excellent pilot! Or you wouldn't have 100+ kills. Yeah it was the 'bag of tricks' thing that made me interested in flap 1 - I think it was Viper a while back said 'don't just have one strength' - I've used them before in IL2, etc. but was quite 'green' then, and didn't fully understand when to, and when not to, use them. And as you say it's a real World technique. I think I get the pros and cons now. I currently only use flap 1 at the mo on downwind to land, to slow up for gear speed - but obviously with very low power set - they do that job well. I'll practise fighting with them - as you and Viper have said it's good to have more than one strength. I don't trim the nose at all during a fight - but if you're using flap 1 then you'd have to I'm sure - I trim for 270 indicated, works ok with the huge IAS fluctuations - Likewise though I very rarely use high MP / RPM - max continuous or just above is usually enough - just goes to show there's a few different ways to 'skin at cat' (achive the same thing). Well, what to say about this bit... "...or you won't have 75 AI guys downed", you're a cheeky devil but you're alright Konrad, keep up the excellent wotk :) Next time you post a vid (& please do, when time, by the way), if I see something unusual I'll keep my big mouth shut & just PM you:)
  19. That's not boring dude! That's some nice flying! I think I can see what flap 1 gives you (but haven't watched the track yet) - that's a commanding position you get yourself into - nice one. When I fly 'clean' for me it's a game of... merge, and whilst turning very hard sometimes, still deliberately keeping some decent separation until a opportunity opens, and then diving in to his 6, and then making sure I'm keeping it smooth... ...That's a whole new view of the AI I've never seen before :) watching him run out of E from above - nice - You seem to be out climbing and out turning him - very interesting. Ta for the vid [edit - just so you know the AI in that mission starts loaded with bombs and rockets - it probably doesn't matter as the AI jettison them pretty much immediately upon mission start, but I always make sure the load out, fuel and alt are equal for AI contests. I guess it's a DCS 'ready mission'? I often go for more lateral separation at the start like 5+ miles so I've time to get set up - but anyways just so you know - I don't think it affected the outcome - end edit]
  20. Yeah it's hard to fit the pony into the 'World' as it stands at the moment, in depth anyway. What you suggest could be made believable I'm sure. As you say it has to be a low threat environment, or at least plenty of electronic intelligence so the maps can be updated with big red no fly zones:) Although now were talking modern assets helping an insurgency...? Not impossible with Red covertly supporting Grey, against a mutual Blue foe. One thought I've had previously was just using the stang as a Tucano or Pucara substitute. this would work reasonably well I think (with a bit of a paint job and some imagination on the part of the player), I haven't developed this idea but I occasionally think about it. I was reading about the Colombian AF efforts against the drug gangs - bombing drug 'factories', supporting special forces, recon, supporting helo ops, - there's some interesting stuff on Colombian AF Tucano ops. to be found (sorry no link, ages ago). Being interested in WWII - I'm just populating the World with ZU23, BTR80 and transport - I forget about where the map actually represents and just go with the topography - basically totally fictional scenarios, in totally fictional places. But aint got much time to develop stuff properly. Anyway, Like the sound of your idea - I'm sure it would be popular round here so long as no one is pinging SAMs at us (or we know where to avoid:)). And there's some interesting and varied jobs to do. My thoughts anyway...
  21. You're welcome Konrad The name... recently modified. Yeah it was the flap 1 setting that caught my eye - cheers for sharing details - I'll have to try that - I always keep a clean machine for the reasons Fakum mentions - sounds like it has some good advantages though in certain circumstances. Re doing a vid or two of some good fights - only if you'd like to - but I'm sure I'm not alone in finding DF vids interesting and useful from a learning point of view. I'll check out your TRK if that's cool. That's 74 in 1.2.2 - before there were more ;) - I don't know how many more as don't bother saving my stats. Cheers V
  22. +1 (x C squared)
  23. Congratulations man that's some seriously good going! I know posting a vid (rendering / uploading) is time consuming but when you do a particularly good fight with some funky moves or some close shaves or whatever, share it with the community dude - I for one really enjoy watching (& learning) from others dogfighting. Although I'd understand if you had some 'trade secrets':) I just checked my stats as not been counting and it's 74 - so hats off to you!
  24. Thanks Sobek, will do.
