Chapter 9 (pg. 158) covers fundamental two-ship formation. There are other goodies in USAF AFI's that can be learned here, and I highly recommend training to these standards when able. We will start off with an overview of the basic maintaining of ones position relative to another aircraft. Following, we will demonstrate and execute a multiple two-ship section take-off. Two-ship pairs of A-10's will then proceed along flight plan and swap roles as flight lead and wingman. We will finish up with 4-ship formation, introducing elements. Formation maneuvers will be taught, and we will cover any questions you have along the way. 6. Also, snoopy - I see ya'll have an FWS for the Hog. Conducting school any time soon?
  7. Shit hot. I always love to see the dash 1's referenced for stuff like this.
  8. Interesting... I may compile a checklist of my own and release it here.
  9. Im curious, how did they construct their checklist?
  10. Update, we'll be starting ops at 7PM GMT for snowflake. "Normal" ramp start is 4 minutes. In the time that your INS is aligning you can start setting everything else up. 10 minutes to start should be okay, since we will be talking, briefing and instructing to begin with. SGAT, we'll try to find a way to get you an A-10C with 12 AIM-120's.
  11. "He was dubbed "Forty Second Boyd" for his standing bet as an instructor pilot that beginning from a position of disadvantage, he could defeat any opposing pilot in air combat maneuvering in less than 40 seconds;" from, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyd_(military_strategist) The late Col. John Boyd is a shining example against that. Awesome book to read about an awesome fighter pilot: http://www.amazon.com/Boyd-The-Fighter-Pilot-Changed/dp/0316796883 I think he's a SH example of taking the luck out of the fight and making it all about the knowledge and skill of the pilot.

  15. I think that saying the terrain is more complex in DCS than in BMS is just stupid. Have you looked at the map for DCS? The BMS we fly is all red flag - player on player, just like in DCS. If we're talking tactics, the hills serve the same purpose in both games. But I dont think were talking tactics, I think were talking missile capabilities... DCS has the missile physics wrong at this point. 20k, 10nm shot gives 18 seconds to intercept. The missile (AMRAAM) will come off the rail and accelerate to Mach 2.75+ and the Pk will be high. When will DCS improve the tracking physics for radar guided and IR missiles?
  16. Ladies and gentlemen - On Sunday, 23 February 2014, the Hardcore Gaming Clan will be hosting its second formation flight training fundamentals class. We will have a guest instructor from the Virtual Patriots L-39 aerobatic demonstration team. Currently the class is scheduled for 6PM GMT. The class will be live streamed on twitch for those who are unable to attend. For those interested in participating, please respond by Sunday the 16th with your attendance. Special aircraft accommodations may be considered on an individual basis, but we require to know how many A-10C pilots to provide aircraft to, and how many will need hot-start vs. cold start aircraft. Training will originate from Tiblisi on the map. We will provide a navigation course and would prefer to divide up into flights of two, so that individual groups or friends may go off and practice formation fundamentals after the lecture. Any advanced questions may be posted here as well. To sign up, please simply respond to this thread stating that you are interested and intend to show up. Thank you for your interest, and keep the shiny side up! :pilotfly: V/R, linebacker
  17. The approach will be laid out soon. Basically rather than estimating parameters and using game trial and error as most players are, we are looking up all missile data which is publically available from the suppliers, all applicable milspecs, and then we are producing performance curves for every relavent parameter from 0 to 60,000ft. Question our knowledge or credibility? That's fine. We'll be providing a reference to every text used, and an appendix of every spec and piece of manufacturer data we utilize. We are using CAD to produce 1:1scale models with attached material dendity and strength data, and we will be performing iterative CFD to validate our drag force, range, thrust, etc. About defining maximum range, Rmax is not the same as max range. These are clearly defined, and we'll be showing this as well. Prepare for accurate missile performance, both Russian and American
  18. Which file are the parameters in?
  19. 1.2.4 is on the way... ED's working hard. OK you can ban me now... :megalol::smartass:
  20. This just in, Saturday will now be used for on-ramp to falcon BMS potentially. 3PM eastern.
  21. UPDATE: Defensive tactics will now be on March 9th.
  22. Saturday or Sunday, 23/24 February 1PM eastern, we will be conducting the next Fighter Weapons School installment - defensive tactics. The A-10C will be used primarily for this. We will learn the basic defensive fundamentals of fighter vs. bomber defensive maneuvers (please reference and read http://www.ausairpower.net/JRB/boydaerialattack.pdf), and try to gain a basic understanding for the types of air to air attacks. Understanding this material is critical to employing your aircraft successfully in a tactical environment. We will engage A-10C students with F-15C aggressors (invincibility will be on, unlimited fuel and ammo will be on). We will demonstrate defensive maneuvers first, and then practice them in an air to air arena. Following this, we will proceed to the range where students participating will learn to defend against various AAA and SAM threats. Objectives for the end of training will be to provide students with a basic skillset to defend against aerial attacks, and the skills and knowledge of different threat types and how to avoid them or defeat them defensively. Please sign up if interested. :smartass:
  23. If this is implemented as an option to turn off/on im okay with it, otherwise, not really a fan of this concept
