Pravus - thanks but the X56 may be a bit too much like my X52. I have been trying to do air to air refueling recently and that centre spring is a real pain and produces so much stiction is doesnt allow very precise movements. I have managed to overcome it by using custom curves and deadzones, but it still isnt perfect.
Save yourself some dosh and slap silicon grease round your rim and shaft.
Mine is as smooth as my bum.

Here's mine based on the HOTAS of the A-10C.
It's as close to the real throttle and stick buttons as I could get. About 68 functions covered.
No rotories are used.
I haven't used it for years, but I reinstalled it today, so here it is.
Pinky modifier is required.
Worked well, as I remember.

I found the Mig-21, S-5M rockets to be tight enough to be useful, (can kill a T-72), but shooting off 76 2.75 inch FFAR, is more like a sneeze that seems to go everywhere but on the target.
I'll give them a miss. Zunis are OK.
Edit. I tried them against taxy aircraft, in a shallow dive, to good effect. Not so bad after all, (HEAT, against large soft targets), maybe.

Two things to note.
In v1.6 overhead wires were deadly. Now in 2.5 they are hard to see and are hit or miss, mostly miss, so flyng through them is now possible, which has taken the hard edge off this missiom. Pity.
Secondly. The trees can cover the FARPs, so I had to turn down grass/clutter to 500. It should look like this, with light green around them. (In f-10).

This Slalom mission file seems to have disappeared, so I re-uploaded it for anybody who's brave enough to try it.
It's super hard to complete and I doubt that anyone can actually do it.

Not sure what you mean there. Its not like there is another like VSTOL we can compare it to. I guess DCS F35 maybe. Or DCS Yak38 (LOFL, I would buy it just for the auto-eject). :megalol:
A-10/Su-25.
The Harrier is unique, there is no comparison. Comparing it to something twice the size and newer is pointless. Although conceived for the same RL war, they tackle it in a different way.
Interesting reading though, all the same. :)

The OP states how he's enjoying the Harrier and all of a sudden the A-10 pops in, a completely different aircraft in all respects.
How did that happen? No don't tell me.
Just to make it worse, it's about RL instead of IG.
Why not compare like for like.
..

Huh, yeah it is. That almost gets you into a good WEZ for the harrier.
All Russian missiles now tested and ECM show a big improvement with all of them, (listed in my epic length bombing thread). That's taken most of the fun out of it. :)

Flying against a SA-11 from 40000'.
Launch at 21 nm.
With ECM on, launch at 12 nm.
Missile can also be made to abort by turning on ECM after launch.
Maybe it is worth taking.
..

Copied over for my reference.
Waypoint launch distances. All flights are Harrier, S & L, full power and direct. ECM pod on RCV.
Harrier. Moskva, SA-10B (should be SA-N-6) Grumble.
41300' Av/Ex, 40.3 nm.
26000' Av/Ex 35.3 nm. (ECM 28.0 nm).
6000' Av/Ex 29.0 nm. (ECM 23.0 nm).
Therefore, Average and Excellent skill are identical. (ECM on, in brackets). Different skill sets, are relate to reload times.
50'................No launch.
Su 34, distances were slightly longer, about 2 nm.
Harrier / Pyotr Velikiy. 40000' 85 nm.
(Note P.V. SA10-N-6 Grumble, 69 nm. Interestingly, When attacking the Pyotr. V. from a longer range, (100 nm), it detected and fired the shorter range, SA-10B Grumble at 40 nm. I've never seen this before and it shouldn't have this model.
SA-N-6: 69 nm. (ECM 32 nm).
SA-10B: 39 nm. (ECM 25 nm).
Flying against a SA-11 set from 40000' and 80 nm.
Launch at 21 nm.
With ECM on, launch at 12 nm.
Missile can also be made to destruct by turning on ECM after launch.
Harrier v SA-15 solo. (Adding search radar made no difference).
30000' No launch.
10500', 30 nm, launch at 8.7 nm. With ECM 5.0 nm.
SA-10B Grumble, land template.
40000'. Launch at 40.0 nm, With ECM, 29.5 nm. Turn on ECM ater launch. 1st missile destruct 2nd missile missed. Handy to know, if you want to deplete stock before using chaff.
SA-8.
10500'. Launch. 7.5 nm.
460'. Launch. 7.2 nm. (ECM 3.9 nm).
SA-2 combo.
50000' Launch, 25 nm. (F-15).
40000' Launch, 34 nm. (ECM 21.0 nm).
30000'Launch, 25 nm. (ECM 16.0 nm).
10000' Launch, 19 nm. (ECM no launch / 6.5 nm).
1000' Launch, 8.0 nm (ECM 6.6). KILL. This is the only way to get killed. Head on straight into its face, or take one up thr rear.
500'. No launch.
Reload time on excellent is 45 mins.
You don't need any countermeasures with this one, it will never hit you. Missile will always pass behind on a lag persuit. Devs say, it's working as intended.
Found a plane it can kill. A-10 is slow enough for it to get near enough for the proxy fuse to go off, but not in a crossing situation. Load the Harrier with a decent weight to slow it down and it might have a chance. Pity such a good looking rocket, has such poor performance in DCS, despite having a huge number of kills IRL, maybe more than any other SAM in history. It had a huge damage blast radius, which increases with altitude, something that is poorly represented in DCS.
SA-3 combo.
30000', Launch, 12.0 nm, (ECM 11.2).
20000', Launch, 12.3 nm, (ECM 11.4).
10000', Launch, 11.0 nm, (ECM 10.2). These were all much less distance than I expected, with the ECM making the least difference of all of them.
Conclusion: ECM makes a big difference, with reduced detection and launch ranges in every case so far. Take a pod if you want an easier life.

Yes I imagine it would be a brown trousers moment.
On that note, I finally got around to it and looked in "a manual" with 000 in the title and I couldn't find anything on lofting them, tables or otherwise, just the standard delivery stuff. Is there a page I should be looking at or a different manual?
050.604.
..

Can you expand on that point? I was under the impression ECM didn't help that much with the double digit sams.
You could be right there. I never use it, but with the SA-10B, it has an effect.
..
-
Psychological effects are not modeled in DCS :)
I would think that, 98 FFAR arriving unannounced in your village from an A-10 loft, would be enough to scare you shitless, but I have not seen any evidence of this method being used in recent times, despite extensive delivery method graphs for the Harrier.
..

Could you also upload something so we can compare? (I'm on latest open beta)
All I can do is give an example. (Stable).
Harrier. Moskva, SA-10B Grumble. Waypoint launch distances.
41300' Av/Ex, 40.3 nm. (Note P.V. SA-N6 Grumble, 69 nm. ECM had no effect. (If you forget to load a pod)) Interestingly, When attacking the P. V. from a longer range, (100 nm), it detected and fired the shorter range, SA-10B Grumble at 40 nm. I've never seen this before and it shouldn't have it.
26000' Av/Ex 35.3 nm. (ECM 28.0 nm).
6000' Av/Ex 29.0 nm. (ECM 23.0 nm).
Therefore, Average and Excellent skill are identical. (ECM on, in brackets).
50'................No launch.
Su 34, distances were slightly longer, about 2 nm.
OP is looking for max distance. I'm only looking for differences in experience (none).
..
-
And how did you find that? Maybe it's SAM specific?
Right side = Excellent
Left side = Average
Last missile lost energy and self detonated
By flying at target ships (Grumble), repeatedly, at different settings and altitudes.
Also ECM pods make a big difference, to detection ranges.
..
-
It that why some missiles can't be seen by anything?
..
-
sams do definitely fire earlier (therefor at longer range) on higher skill, .
I find that skill makes no difference to firing ranges.
Altitude, on the other hand, does make a big difference.
..
-
I tried 76 FFAR 2.75 inch, from around 10 nm, but whilst they looked impressive, landing on the airfield, they are too puny to do any real damage, when spread out over a wide area.
No harm in trying.
..
-
I tried F-16C VS SA-10 in the same situations as usual, with all units (ground and air) at excellent skill level, but I still just got the 75km I got with high for aircraft, average for vehicles. Am I missing something?
AFAIK, skill level, relates to reload time.
Are you looking for, max SAM range in a single situation, or max launch range, which will have a huge number of variable, e.g.a SM-2 will launch at a much greater range for a 2000 kt target at 80000', than a 458 kt target at 48'. (Anti ship missiles). Aircraft, different again.
..
-
Yes it is. It's just a case of getting the codename correct against the particular ships in game.
More importantly, the SA-N-6 on the PV, will detect and shoot down Harpoon.
The SA-10 on the Moskva, will do neither.
..
-
The Pyotr Velikiy, uses the SA-N-6 Grumble, not the SA-10.
..
-
SM-2, USA ships. Anti ship cruise missiles.
Seacat. UK. Anti ship cruise missiles.
SA-N-6. Russia. ASCM.
..
-
When are we going to have DTOS implimented?
When is Manual sight to be implemented as well? This will open up new possibilities.
..

I've been doing this for several years, with the P-51, F-86 and especially the Mig-21, but I'm now using the Harrier for loft and dive toss from various altitudes from about 20000' to 500' with FFAR and Zuni rockets.
Yes it is IRL tactics.
You can find all the details for lofting rockets in "A Manual".
No, a computer won't do this, (in the Harrier), it's all down to skill. :)

On Pull-Up, VV Climbs, but A/G Gen Reticle Lags
in AV-8B N/A
Posted · Edited by Holbeach
The reticle is always above the vv, in the dive, which means you will fly straight into the ground when on target, but the VV is accurate and so is the pipper.
Also the FPM (VV), should go out when it touches the reticle.
