Overall I've found that the MiG-29S with 2 R-27ETs and 2 R-77s is more effective than an Su-33 with 6 R-27ERs and 2 R-27ETs. Oddly it works best when you use the R-27ETs first at long range and then use the R-77s at shorter range just before 10km.
Well I was not enough clear before. I just wanted to say you overall what is going on. Yes ones of the bigs Problems with the R-27 is the chaffs effect. With the R-77 you can get a Little more succes at 15 km becuse in the middle of his travel this Missile is active. But I have said you before, the russian Missiles lose the track because the chaffs, even been shooting at 15 km and the R-77 is guided first by your Radar. that means even in this range you lose track by chaffs and even by notching. Is a shame but is like that now in our game. Some People want to say us that this is because the missiles AFM. Just open your eyes and see a little more there...
Honestly when you find somebody that say the magic words " all the Missiles going bad " this is simple not true and this persons dont really care about the Russian fighters.

I also can't seem to lock the R-27ETs using the BVR IRST mode (pressing O). I can however lock them via radar. That doesn't seem to match the manual.Popcorn sometimes the Manual and the Video Training dont say everything. When you practice with the AI you will see the results are always the same, and the AI only Launch one single Missile.
When you Launch to a Human Pilot a bunch of of 5 R-27ER in one attack after some seconds you will expect some results but the really hard reality right now is that the F-15 will turn back leaving for you two Aim-120 been shooted at 25 km, a distance that give you few posibility to survival. You can dispense a tone of chaffs that the Aim-120 seem to be immune to everything, even immune to the game lag.
Dont try shoot the R-27ER at 50 km because he lose the energy.
At 40 the same. The R-27ET could be a good cart but Keep in mind the risks.
Forget all you read in internet about how fast and long range have the R-27. You will find in the DCS world encyclopedia that suddenly the R-27ER only have 3 match speed and the fantastic 70 km range that you see in the encyclopedia is a fantasy in some cases. This is only a PC game...
Thats why I say you the FC3 is not good idea for the new russians pilots at the moment

my advise is take the FC2 and learn there first. Now is not a good moment to understand the russian missiles inside the FC3.

Having a lot of trouble with it. It often misses from range and doesn't lock in close. Any tips for a n00b?

I take it the R-27R/ER is just a really bad missile?
Not sure I should have been able to fire an R-27ET based on a radar lock (see track).
The goal is pushing you to take the F-15 to win. Can you Forget it with the R-27. The only success you can get with this Missile is against inexperts Pilots ( Normally the new pilots that come direct to the F-15 ) When they learn, you can forget it with all Russian fighters. Even the R-77 is broken

I would think that the first picture is from a museum.
In most aircraft museums they take out the engines so that would explain the difference in weight on the front part of the aircraft.
Is is exactly what I was thinking about. Also I believe the Mi-8 have some Kind of hydraulic System to jack the Heli, doing easy the load cargo

Agility is not the word which springs to mind while watching this.. Stability, controllability, etc. yes, but agility? The keywords here are quick and nimble and Mi-8 doesn't really fit those (not that one should expect it to do so).

Well when you compared with this Kind Agility, not is not at all :D
But serious, The mi-8 is not in this category to open a debate of the agility, because this Heli is not made for acrobacy guys. This chopper can a lot of things. The capability to do all what you Need is the most important Thing of this one, and do well...

Please understand i'm not hating on anything , i would just want some info.
From what i know the Mi-8 is just a troop transport , right? Its ugly , old , and cant do alot of things, the huey is an iconic helo that everyone knows but the Mi-8 seems such an odd choise...
Once again i'm not trying to insult the developers , i will support them whatever they choose to develop , but maybe there is something amazing about the Mi-8 that i just dont know about.

The Mi-8 is one of the most awesome helis have been build ever. When you say the Mi-8 is old, I will like to know your opinion about how old is the Huey.
You dont need open a new thread to ask for the feautures of the Mi-8, because you have a lots of Forums and Internet that can say you how efficient is this Heli. The only you have done here is expose you hatred about the Mi-8.
Anyway you have said that the Huey is a iconic and the Mi-8 is ugly and old, so this is your opinion but not the answer of your main question: Why the Mi-8?
Anyway the word Iconic could have a strong relation with the Vietnam War and Holliwood. But when you speak serious about an iconic Heli, probaly the Really iconic one is the great Mi-8.

The Situation right now is really critical for the RU fighters in FC3. The new pilots only come asking for the F-15 and when we asking if they like the RU fighters, they always say the F-15 is the best. Is not just in case, that also we have the title page of the FC3 product with the F-15 and then when the pilots test the F-15 what only they have to do to avoid the Ru Missiles is dispence a Little chaffs and turn 20 degres left or right, even does not matter the distance in combat the result is the same always. What is Happening now is affecting heavily the work of years in our squadron. After all this, we have to see people here in the Forum saying us like " is not like that, all the parts going bad, shut up "

The point that he is trying to get across to you is if Falcon BMS (falcom 4.0 restructured) AIM-120's were modelled in FC, you would stand less of a chance because they dont miss in BMS, be it shot off a Hornet, Eagle, Mig-28.....
Well I dont know Falcon BMS. At least the Falcon is against AI, but here we fight against human and the results really care.

I don't agree with one word you said here. You and many others think that ED is working 'against' you in some fantasy, conspiracy theory world... and honestly it's not like that.
Just be glad you haven't seen a Falcon BMS AMRAAM in ED games. Then I would assume you would have something real to complain about.
I assume that you have no idea about what you have exposed here that the Aim-120 shooted from your loved Falcon will be superior to others.

Russian missiles are crap? What the hell are you doing with them? Yesterday i had an all human 2 vs 3, su 33 vs f15 and later we encountered the same eagles again but only as 2 vs 2. We dodged their 120s and a combination of 27er/r brought the eagles down.
It is not so much the missilebehaviour it is more how you deploy them. The Amraam is quite a precise killer but certainly not unbeatable. Both times i made it back to my beloved carrier. The second time i lost my lead though, but it was a manouverkill due some nasty weathersettings.

With all due respect pepin, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. This doesn't have anything to do with the F-15, missiles or the simulator itself. Missiles are working just fine and IMO missiles could be anything but perfect. There is no guaranty with missiles, it could miss when you expect it to hit and hit when you expect it to miss. Speaking of the F-15, AIM-120 has its own flaws in this game and is far from being the best missile. Even now, it comes down to the pilot that makes the right choice at the right moment, little in-game bugs playing the role of failures or bad luck in real. There are more serious issues right now that need to be addressed. I find missiles behavior more than OK.
Now back on topic: I second that!
After all the debate have benn in the Forum you come here to say us you find then more than OK!! I think you are a good candidate for ED tester Team, after this compliment.
so why no Mig29's?

I think the very best answer for this question is in the game improvements, specialy with the Missiles that use the Su-27, they are the R-27. Lets wait, we will see...

You will see improvements I'm sure to missile modelling etc in DCS at the same time we will get new modules.
I agree with Witchking. Voice your concerns. ED are listening. Don't feel cheated though. This is a very complex undertaking. To develop combat flight sims is a lot more difficult than a first person shooter. ED could have left the old SFM for missile, instead we have AFM to look forward to, even if it needs lots of work.
Well you answer in more civilized. Sorry man, but after we spend a lot of Money in our Computers, Servers, Flight Simulator hardwares, also we organized into squadrons. Then we get a Software that is named combat Simulator.
with a perpetual AFM + we have to take how new pilots take the F-15 for his first time, doing a couples of questions in the MP Chat, they come in few minuts and destroy us.
Thats why I have said ED will not get my money with the DCS Su-27 till I see a reation of more respect to us.
And yes I feel cheated, me and a lot of guys that dont know english

Its pretty ridiculous when people say ED cheated them. ED force you out of your job and make u buy their module at gunpoint? Did they take away your 40$ and give u the finger and run away?
Developing missile flight models without its programming logic is hard work. Without access to confidential data from the Russian AF...what kind of data do u have to prove that certain missiles are in-accurate? I think this is the first time in a simulation anyone has developed a physics based model for aa munitions. On top if that, they are still constantly improving it. If u can't deal with the bugs and constant updates.. Go away and wait for an year before coming back to dcs.
The fact of the matter is ED and sim developers are the most dedicated devs in the industry. No one puts so much time and effort to constantly tweak and update existing products. If u are thinking I am wrong..u clearly know nothing about the gaming industry. Be patient...bring up issues ina civilized manner and ED will get to it based on their list of priorities. They are still constantly releasing updates for dcs a-10 which was released years ago. If u are still unhappy, clearly give up on ED and don't bother...just stop posting as if they stole ur entire life savings.

This People have become a Monopoly and there are not other Company with such Software, very dangerous I think.
I have paid for a software simulator and we get a Beta, all right we work in the Beta. If this software is not a Beta anymore and I need my missiles to destroy the F-15. Then this means we get one stable software, with the main important of the fighter (the missiles) working only for the F-15.
If all that is happening now and the nexts proyects are the Su-27/F-15 AFM , I will take care in spend my money in the DCS Su-27 with such strategy

ThGumidekCZ I have tested F-15 MFD Designator and is extreme fast compared with the russian Hud Designator, this is a very good advantage, you should use all the advantage that have brought ED for the F-15 new strategy Marketing.
Just try and try and you will be superior in anyway.
PD: Last night 4 F-15 at the top of the score list. the first with 24 kills, the rest of the RU just 2. Amazing!

They can do lot of things with the FC3 aircrafts, but for sure I will not buy the Su-27 AFM or DCS Mig-29 looking the way have taken the Missile AFM develop. I have bought a combat simulator in Beta, Now is not called Beta any more, but is still the AFM missiles in develop. I have bought a fighter simulator to destroy the enemy aircrafts with missiles, but only the RU missiles look useless in this AFM develop. So what we can expect for the future with the next DCS Su-27 proyect...
If I buy the DCS Su-27 taken from FC3 with this missiles, I will do the same mistake haven bought The FC3.

Great. With the next DCS Mig-15 the history will be rewritten. Just tune a little the AFM cannon and the Migs will be all time shot down by Sabres pilots.
