probably the part where it gets used in PvP multiplayer. sure it's fair to say that's not on ED. But, it isn't fair to suggest in the bigger picture this doesn't affect some DCS user experiences. Who's responsible for keeping that in check is an okay question to ask. Whether or not it has an impact on people's UX isn't.

Improved stability and dedicated server - Discussion
funkyb replied to NineLine's topic in Multiplayer
That language makes me nervous. I dream of the day we have a proper dedicated server binary for linux that we can run on our own metal. The quote makes me wonder if we're instead headed for curated hosting companies with canned mission packs. "The bronze package includes the basic mission pack and supports up to 5 players! For the serious pilots we offer the high performance tier that supports up to 10 players and comes with the bonus mission pack!" I hope that's not the case. -
Yea, I shutter when thinking about the number of times we've spent 30..60..90 minutes (or more) just looking for a mission that met a given set of criteria. Frequently we'll have a group on TS wanting to fly but hoggit has a huge range of skills and people with various subsets of modules. Trying to then go find a mission that fit the bill for everyone interested was always a challenge. More often than not we'd end up flying the same couple over and over just because we knew they met the need at the time. This should be a nice addition to the toolbox.

Don't think so. The e-mail originates from eagle.ru and the link directs to the proper dcs reset page. Unless they have compromised the ed host, your personal email account, or god forbid root dns al-la some kaminsky style exploit, then clicking that link and resetting your password probably doesn't pose any risk.
-
That or someone at ED did an oops and triggered the code on a batch of IDs. Unlikely but not impossible.
-
The notes look legit to me, as in they are properly originating from eagle.ru. Since that's the case I don't think clicking on the link is any danger unless their servers are compromised, in which case we're probably up a creek click or no click. The only other way I see this benefiting the attacker is if they also succeed in gaining access to a user's e-mail account.

Agreed, and i'd go as far as to say every switch with two states should have a toggle option for those of us that only have momentary contact buttons on our HOTAS (i.e. we can't use the hog method mentioned in this thread). For that matter, 3+ should have increment/decrement or other cyclical binds. 4 buttons for gear, 2 for nosewheel, 10 for weapons, etc. it's crazy. The current system is probably great for pit builders, but it makes me ragequit every time I decide I'm finally go map my x55... Don't get me wrong - I freaking love the 21. So much fun... just binds could use some revisions.

Agreed.

Anybody figure out how to change FOV in the new patch?
funkyb replied to Spitfire2170's topic in View System
doesn't look like it. PITA for me so far. I haven't flown in 6 months and now in the A-10C full zoom out isn't even close to what I need. I just want to set the min/max FOV to something like 30/175. I run on 3+1 screens and the default max FOV isn't even close to enough. It was easy before....view.lua had settings for each airframe. Just to be clear to those discussing editing the server/snap luas for default view - it's not a single default i want to change; I want to set the min and max that apply to the zoom keys. -
Is this SP or MP? Slots & Airframes? This kind of info helps.

Maybe add a link to the mission post...

Huey Overlay text (that yellow autopilot stuff) isn't positioned properly for nonstandard monitor arrangements. I run on 3 X 1920x1080 screens in eyefinity for the cameras, then one 1600x900 screen off to the right of those (as in Windows arrangement, physically it's center below middle mon) for exporting MFDs and helios stuff. In Huey, the yellow overlay text is positioned at the very bottom right of my 1600x900 monitor, and mostly off the bottom and right of the screen. The text that isn't off the edge is under my cougars and MFD exports. I presume this happens because the in-game-options full resolution is 7360x1080, while that monitor is only 900px high. I use the GUI object in the MonitorSetup.lua file to keep breifings and other overlay text centered on the middle 1920x1080 panel. I'd like the Huey stuff to do the same.

Yep, I poked around inside the mission file and figured it out. Based on the structure of the file it seems it could cause complications if the country you're moving has units assigned to it. I just removed everything before changing them and it seems to have worked as desired.
-
Has anyone tried editing the mission file inside the miz directly? While a bit messy, it doesn't look unmanageable.

Fantastic mod. Thanks. Is there a way to do this with the multiplayer launcher as well? that would improve my experience quite a bit.

New campaign, Operation Kano, hope you like AFAC's
funkyb replied to jers's topic in User Created Missions General
Last two sections in the mission brief - this is a MP mission with 5 slots: One for AFAC, four for CAS. We flew this last Saturday and had a great time. The concept worked out quite well. Nice work again Jers; I'm looking forwarded to Kano II and am thrilled to see some missions bubbling out of /r/hoggit. Edit: doh, I see jers already answered ;) -
I have no problem reverting to the 12.7 Beta and will try that as well. Concerning x-fire. - I've read that before (disabling xfire in DCS), but in prior versions my personal experience is that it worked better (at least in quad1 and 1.2.0). I'll also try disabling x-fire (but would hope sometime we can see support for it, man that second GPU makes a difference when it's used right.)

I'm using x6148, my post was regarding last night. I'll try again after work today, and I should have added to the original post that I'm pleased ED is working hard to address this. I'm sure they're pulling their hair out as much as everyone else has been, and recognize this stuff isn't easy. I have no problem reverting to the 12.7 Beta and will try that as well. Well whatever has changed my performance is still in the tank. I tried 1.2.1 last night in the p-51D at various settings. Using quad1, I could play mostly on high (except MSAA is 4x) and it works very well. In 1.2.0 I had to dial down a few things down, water to low, shadows to low, and MSAA to 2x to retain performance in the ballpark of what I have with quad1. Last night was my first time in 1.2.1 (and yes I installed the most recent auto-update), and even with every setting on it's minimum possible value (all low, all distances to minimum, TSSAA off, MSAA off...everything at minimum), I spent the entire session bouncing between a minimum of 10 FPS and a maximum 22 FPS with an average between 17-18 FPS. Unplayable, and there's nothing left to drop. sadface.jpg System Specs: i5-2500k @ 4.2GHz 8GB Gskill ripjaw DDR3-1800 2 x Sapphire/ATI 6970 2GB in Xfire (Cat v12.8 drivers) 1200W Cooler Master GOLD PSU 2 x 120 GB HyperX SATAIII SSDs in Raid 0 3 x ASUS 23.6" LCDs @ 5760x1080 (not in eyefinity, I use DCS-built in monitorconfig) I'm able to run everything else I throw at this on great settings with good performance, even in (eyefinity or other) triple head configurations. Skyrim, BF3, Crysis II, Just Cause 2, etc... no problem. Hopefully this will get worked out. I miss running the newer DCS modules but will have to stick to quad1 until FPS improves.

I disagree with this, particularly given the OP prefers to be price conscious. I'm a 100% satisfied user of TrackIR 4, and I'd never dream of paying $1xx over again for the marginal improvements present in version 5. If you have the spend and want it, no problem with that, but OP will be extremely satisfied with a v4 if he chooses to go that round (particular if he's never used head-tracking). Additionally, I own both the track clip pro LED headset and the standard reflecting hat clip, and having tried both, I prefer the cheap hat clip hands down. No contest. For me, the headset LED unit is annoying. I find no apparent improvements in precision or accuracy, and am constantly annoyed by having another wire dangling from my head. This is even more important to me now that I have a wireless headset- that wire is so damn annoying. Also, I notice more masking issues with the LED unit than I do with the reflecting hat clip. tl;dr: In my opinion the TrackIR 4 is a great piece of kit and you do not need the LED unit to enjoy the head tracking experience. For me, I actually prefer not using it. If you want to control your budget, I say go get a TrackIR 4 used off ebay and you will love it.
