  1. Thanks Rebel All help is greatly appreciated. I am using Saitek Pro rudder pedals. NavyAce
  2. Thanks Baldrick, I should have clarified that I don't want the extension for my Thrustmaster. I would have to purchase a Warthog stick first and then add the extension to it.
  3. Thanks Art for the detailed reply. If I eventually decide to try a full stick I will have to get the Warthog first as I do not presently have one. If I do, can I purchase the extensions from them as well and hopefully they would come with instructions for installation. Your points are well taken and I will keep your reply close by as I decide what to do. Thanks for all your input. NavyAce
  4. Hi Baldrick, Thanks for the quick reply. I see you are using a Warthog with an extension. Why did the company tell me they weren't available and warned against using them if they are in fact available (how did you purchase them anyway if they were not listed in the catalog?) and work fine? I would be interested if I could purchase one that would work with my setup. NavyAce
  5. Hi Guys, Thanks for the hardware reminder regarding different settings for long and short sticks. I would like to eventually have a full scale joystick but this does not seem possible right now. I had heard through the editors of PC Pilot magazine that they thought that Warthog had a telescoping extension available, so I contacted their Customer Service department with the following request: I was recently told about your Hotas Warthog stick that comes with extensions so that it can be made to approximate the length of a real WWII era stick. Can this unit be attached via a USB port and is it plug and play? How do I mount the stick on the floor? Can the sensitivity etc. settings be input through the control panels of current flight sims? This was the reply I got: The HOTAS Warthog does not come with extensions. Moreover, we do not encourage the use of extensions as the product was designed in a specific way and adding extensions may damage the product in the long term. Also, any modification will void the warranty. Since I am obviously going to be using my desktop joystick for now, I would like to have axis settings that are at least reasonably accurate replications for the actual airplane that will be reflected realistically in the movements of my Thrustmaster T.16000M. I would need to do some tweaking to fit my own needs but at least this would give me a starting point. NavyAce

In light of this, I guess I should refine what I mean by accurate and realistic, since I am obviously going to be using my desktop joystick for now. I would like to have axis settings that are at least reasonably accurate replications for the actual airplane that will be reflected realistically in the movements of my Thrustmaster T.16000M. As you say I would need to do some tweaking to fit my own needs but at least this would give me a starting point. Thanks for reminding me that there are hardware differences or I probably would have continued to blunder ahead as I am not the most computer savvy person. NavyAce PS. You might see this post or a facsimile under another heading since I want to spread this around to some folks who might not regularly read this particular part of the forums.
  7. I'm currently using a Thrustmaster T.16000M with no extensions
  8. Hello, Does anybody have accurate roll, pitch, and yaw settings (Deadzone, X and Y Saturation, and Curvature) for the P-51D? Thanks. I found this information for the Spit IX in an old post from July 2017 called Can You Share Your Axis Curves. This is the information I need. NavyAce

  10. Hi Flappie, Thanks for the link to the Spit IX. I went there and copied the settings from the posts and applied them and they have smoothed out things considerably for that airplane. Now if I can only find the same for the other two! I did however notice in fooling around during free flight that I cant use my HOTAS stick button to look around the cockpit (only in the P-47D does this work). I can look around in external view with the mouse but this doesn't seem to work inside the cockpit. NavyAce
  11. Hello, I am hoping someone here can give me some advice on a rather specialized topic. I am a WWII flight simmer and like to fly my virtual aircraft accurately using actual checklists and procedures. This comes from my background as a retired airline captain where this was a requirement and also logical from a safety standpoint. I have also been fortunate enough to have acquired 20 hours of front seat flight time in a real SNJ, where I have learned that there is a significant difference to flying these old tail draggers that has been overlooked by joystick manufacturers. The control sticks in the actual WWII warbirds are 3-4 feet long, and because of this, moving them requires considerable use of your arm and shoulder muscles, especially when doing aerobatics. Most commercial joysticks are only about a foot tall, and even with some sort of force feedback they can be moved with relative ease just by using your wrist, which is hardly realistic? Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes a joystick of realistic length, or of one that can be so modified? If there is one, how could it be floor mounted in front of my chair without drilling holes for mounting bolts/screws? For me it would also have to be a plug and play with a UBS connection to work with my desktop computer. I would also be interested in a more realistic WWII control yoke, as flying my B-17 with a Cessna yoke is kinda tacky. Any help anyone can give me would be most appreciated. Thank you. NavyAce
  12. Hi Flappie, Perhaps I'm not explaining myself accurately. I'm not looking to bind/map anything from one stick to another. What I need are screenshots of the axis curves for sensitivity and dead zones so I can get my virtual aircraft to more accurately react to control inputs from my joystick thus reflecting those of the actual aircraft. Right now my pitch and roll axis' are much too sensitive to input making accurate control difficult. I would like to modify this behavior by playing with the axis curves in the control section but I'm not sure how to move them from the default settings to get the reactions I want. Is there anything like this out there for the P-51D, P-47D, and Spit IX? Thanks for continuing to give me advice. NavyAce
  13. Hey Flappie. Do you or anyone you know have any idea if the one joystick profile for the P-47D, which is something called a Cougar joystick, will work with my Thrustmaster T.16000M? Thanks. NavyAce
  14. Thanks Paganus. I tried out your directions and they work. All three of my planes now look more correct. I also tried the Number Pad 2 key to see if that would move the view the other way and it does. NavyAce
  15. OK I think I see what you meant by stock missions. Stock being included by default. And a Cold and Dark start could be considered a mission I guess.
  16. Hi doom, Thanks for responding so quickly. I was talking about not having a Cold and Dark start as an option in my two purchased maps where the P-47D is concerned. Was the P-47D module built so it was incompatible with the Normandy and Nevada maps as far as the CaD option was concerned? I ask this because both of my other two planes have this option in all three maps. NavyAce
  17. Thanks Flappie. I'd like to download some of these profiles. The one available for the P-47D is for something called a Cougar joystick. Do you know if this would work with my Thrustmaster T.16000M? Thanks
  18. Hi, I would like to show more cowling in front of the cockpit to more accurately reflect the forward view available to pilots flying WWII tail draggers as I don't think the default view is quite enough. I would like to increase the amount of cowling showing through the windshield but I am not sure how to do this. When I look through the controls section there are so many options in the view section that I'm not sure which one would apply to my question. Could someone suggest something? Thanks. NavyAce
  19. Hi, I thought I'd let you know about a quirk I have discovered (perhaps reported to you already by others) after having installed my new P-47D to my new v 2.5.6 of DCS World. I have three maps installed, the default Caucasus plus my purchased Normandy and Nevada Test Range modules. I like to do Cold and Dark starts withy an authentic checklist for maximum realism but I have found that when I select the P-47D and then try the latter two maps they only give three options, one being free flight and the other two being pre scripted missions. When I try my other aircraft, the P-51D and the Spit IX, these have the full range of options in all three maps. Is this some sort of bug that has to be fixed, or is it maybe something that is going to be added later on? Thanks for your kind attention. NavyAce
  20. Hey Gerb and zhukov, Thanks for the input. I was thinking originally that the problem could have been torque related. I am a real life retired commercial airline captain who has flown many single and multi piston twins, including some 20 hours in a real SNJ so I am familiar with the torque effects on an aircraft. However, when moving my Saitek throttle out of the idle detent the aircraft would roll violently to almost a 90 degree angle before I'd had a chance to advance it even an eigth of an inch. This was clearly an overreation so I dismissed this an an explanation. However, after reading some of the earlier posts and after some of my own experimentation, I found that the command I had assigned to the roll axis from my joystick (Joy_X) had already been assigned by the game to the same function via a keyboard command, thus creating two assignments for the same function. This should have been revealed to me, as it has in otther flight sims, by the game telling me via a message upon selecting the axis command that the function had been previously been assigned, so that I could delete it. But I never saw one. After discovering this I deleted every axis command assignment and manually reassigned them to my various devices, and now I have my pitch and roll axis properly working via my joystick, my yaw axis properly working via my rudder pedals, and my throttle, prop, and mixture controls all properly working via my throttle quadrant. This use of multiple controllers also could have had a bearing on my problem. I will try to post a screenshot of my current axis assignments to show everyone what I have currently assigned. Thanks to all who helped. NavyAce
  21. Hi Art, I followed the new pathway and found my screenshots folder with my previously attempted screenshot in it. I'd like to post it here but I'm not sure how to do it. Can you explain that to me please? However, I'd like to mention that since I deleted every assignment in the axis command section (mostly game defaults) and reassigned them manually to my devices (plus some modifiers) I now have everything working (throttle, prop control and mixture control, plus all three control axiNavyAce
  22. Hello, I've tagged this onto the end of a couple of other posts but I'll put it out here as a seperate request. I would like mt P-47D, P-51D, and Spit IX to fly as much like the actual planes as possible with respect to stick sensitivity and null zones. Does anyone have or know where to find screenshots/grabs of the graph page in the settings section showing how to arrange the curve lines to accurately reflect this? Thanks. NavyAce
  23. Hey Art. I thought I'd let you know that when I open my DCS folder there is no Screenshots folder inside. I thought it was created by default but is it something I have to create myself?
  24. Thanks Flappie. A quick clarification. You mention key bindings. Does this saving process also apply to joystick and throttle axis selection? And I would assume that each time I tweak the sensitivity and dead zone areas/curves I would have to clikc OK to save the changes. Thanks for the info on the other mods. NavyAce
  25. Hello, I have noticed that at times when my DCS World 2.5.6 loads up and the set up page appears it is only 2/3 full screen size. I can see my desk top wallpaper behind the right hand edge. Why does this occur? I have found that if I click on the upper edge the screen will jump to full size but the cockpit seems a bit stretched instead of just normal size enlarged. This works for the current session but sometimes upon returning to the game, but not always, it does the same thing. Is there a way to set things up so the setup screen always appears full size? Thank you. NavyAce
