  1. I haven't been in the forums for a while and have just seen the thread about the F6F Hellcat. This is my favorite plane and would love to see it here and would buy immediately. I have been using the Vertigo Studio's F6 since its release many years ago and while a fine product for its time is now quite dated. The Flying iron (?) Hellcat I am sure would be a great improvement but I don't want to buy and install a whole new platform just for one aircraft. What's the status on the DCS Hellcat? I also saw a thread for an F8F Bearcat. Any word on that or on the F4U Corsair? I'm also looking for a WWII straight deck carrier to practice my takeoffs and landings. Would this carrier have an AI LSO? I would also like to purchase the WWII Marianas Islands terrain but have seen nothing further of it. Would I need to have the modern install first or is the WWII version a standalone. Thanks to all who reply. Navy Ace (Wayne)
  2. How's the release looking for the F4U Corsair?
  3. It's been a couple of months. Any word on the release of the WWII Marianas map?
  4. Hello Again, I just got some more information that I want to share. I have been told that the Warthog joystick comes with extensions of 80mm (app 3.2 inches) 100 mm (app 4 inches) and 120 mm (app 4.8 inches) along with an extension cable. This will create extra length and therefore stick throw. I don't know if multiple extensions can be screwed together to create even more length. Anyway, I'm looking into this as an option.
  5. Hello, I have tried to get answers to this questions in several other places without any luck, so I'm hoping someone here can bail me out. I am a retired American eagle Embraer captain who has had a long time love of 1930s and 40s miolitary aviation. I have gotten many programs for the various libraries of my flight sims (DCS, Il-46, FSX, B-17 the Mighty Eighth among others) to virtually fly the airplanes I will never be able to fly for real. One thing I must hav in this endeavor is realism. That's why I have all of the American and British Pilot's Manuals so I can fly "by the book," which in my opinion is something that DCS does better than anyone. However. in all of these simulations one facet of realism is consistently missing. You cannot fly a real WWII fighter with your wrist and a stick less than a foot tall. I have been fortunate enough to log over 20 hours in an SNJ and I can tell you from experience that this can be real work, especially in aerobatics, where the stick throw is very large (not just a few inches) and has to use arm and shoulder muscles that don't come into play with a standard joystick, and can be quite tiring if done for any length of time. I have heard of joysticks with supposed feedback to make the roll and pitch axes more realistic in control heaviness, but this doesn't address the stick throw aspect. Is there anyplace that sells a realistic stick of 2-2.5 feet in length with a realistic trigger and rubber grip, and can be plugged into a PC with a USB cord? If there is can it be installed with a simple plug in or autoload? And where could I find a product like this? Along the same lines, I find flying my WWII B-17. B-29, B-25, Lancaster, B-26 etc. with a Cessna yoke also not very realistic, especvially with those of the Boeing family being very distinctive in shape and design. Is tere any where I could purchase yokes that are more like those of WWII? Thank you to everyone who responds.
  6. Hi MLGSwagPilot, Thanks for the info on MFS and the F6. I'm seriously considering doing the purchase but one thing bothers me. I have built up a huge library of 68 aircraft addons, both commercial purchases (Vertgo, A2A w/ Accufeel, Aeroplane Heaven, Flying Stations, MAAM, 1st Class Simulations, Virtavia, Aerosoft and Just Flight) and freeware (AW Siskin, XB-15, I-16. D.520, B-18A, A-17, F4B-4, and many others) from sites like Sim Outhouse. If I could somehow port these planes over to a new platform that would be one thing. I would only have to pay for the platform itself. Unfortunately, these old planes would probably not be able to be installed in a new platform like MFS. As a result, I would have to purchase new versions of the 31 commercial products, most of which are not even currently available in the new format. This would be hugely expensive, and in any case the freeware aircraft were developed for a single platform only. Evidently there is no workaround to make FSX planes and scenery work on MFS. Is there a patch or something out there that I could use? I don't want to get MFS with its improved graphics and performance just to run two or three aircraf. This problem also applies to a large host of scenery and airport programs I have purchased and installed in FSX, such as the Mega Airport Boston, Fly Tampa YYZ and YUL, Hi Res Cities Boston, US Cities X (CLE), Manhattan X, MegaScenery Earth Maryland, BWI/DCA, Ohio, Tennessee, and North Carolina, Tropical Simulations DCA, BNA Airport, NYCX, FSDreamTeam's GSX and JFK v 2. All of these would have to be repurchased, if they are even available in the new format. I would then end up having two flight simulation platforms on the same computer, one (MFS) for the Hellcat only and FSX for everything else. Is there a way out of this dilemma or am I stuck having to keep everything split up? This situation is even more complicated because I've also had to keep my old Windows 7 desktop so I can run my primary WWII combat sim (Il-46) and my original B-17 The Mighty Eighth, which will not run on my new Windows 10 gaming desktop computer. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. NavyAce
  7. Hi, I'm not sure if I put this in the correct sub forum. Ifnot I apologize and please move. I recently completed my successful update to 2.5.6 and I am hoping this will work with the title mentioned modules. If not I will update further but how do I proceeed from 2.5.6 to the next version? When I try to do this through the updater when I log in it just tells me that 2.5.6 is complete and doesn't bring up the next version. I assume since the newest is v 2.8 it was preceeded by 2.6 and 2.7 and that brings up a question. Do I need to install these two previous versions and in a particular sequence before proceeding to v 2.8 or can I install that directly on top of v 2.6? And if I don't, will I be able to run the three previously mentioned modules in 2.5.6? I am assuming the new versions can be found on the DCS wensite. I have also checked the module manager to see if the three I mentioned are listed there but can't find them so I assume they are not available yet. Do I need to do periodic checks of the website to learn about product release or will this information be provided by emails? I am not very computer savvy so I hope I am not irritating anyone with some tech questions that may seem obvious to someone else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Hello, Glad to see the Hellcat is coming to DCS as this is the place to find the most authentic flight simulations. I have the Vertgo Studios Hellcat on FSX and it is good and excellent for the time of its release but graphics are so much better now. I fly all my WWII aircraft referencing the actual PIlot's Operating Instructions as I am a real life pilot (retired Embraer captain) and always want realism in my simulations so I can ttally immerse myself. Flyingirons Hellcat looks good also but I would need to add MFS to my computer and am not sure I want to do that for one or two planes. Any updates on when the F6 and the Essex class carrier will be available? Landing a Hellcat on a modern angled deck Nimitz class carrier without an LSO would be terribly unrealistic. Now if a Zero could be made available for dogfighting or a Val or Kate for intercept missions that would be great. I'd also like to see an F4F and an SBD some day. I looko forward to any replies and thank you.
  9. Hello, What is the status of the Corsair and the WWI Essex class carrier? Are these available yet and will they work in v 2.5.6 or need somethinhg higher. Thank you.
  10. Hello, Is this map currently available fr download? I haven't updated DCS World for a while and am at 2.5.6.59625.1 and want to know if this map and the Corsair (when available) will work or whether I need to update to something higher. Thanks.
  11. Thanks for the clarification. It would be nice also to get a Navy plane like the Hellcat and a Japanese plane like the Zeke to have some dogfights.
  12. Thanks. So I do need the original map first and then add the free WWII map afterwards. Good to know.
  13. Hi, I am interested in WWII aviation only so to be correct I would need the WWII Marianas map for flights with my WWII aircraft. I understand that after the release of the Marianas map that is currently under construction a WWII version of the map will be offered. Is the WWII version going to be a stand alone map or do I need to purchase and install the original map in order to get the WWII map to work? Thanks. NavyAce
  14. Thanks Flappie. I always learn something new and useful hre, and you seem to be especially knowledgeable. Many thanks Navy Ace Oh, by the way. Is there a tutorial somewhere that I can use to learn about making my own missions?
  15. Hi Art, Thanks for the quick reply. I'll look into your suggestions. Did you see my other post in the 2.5 bugs and problems subheading about needing new directions? Perhaps you could advise me on this also. Thanks again
  16. Hello Again, I have recently begun playing with DCS again after a long absence. In doing so I have found a problem with trying to use an old set of directions in the new version. In a previous long ago post concerning how to add a payload, a paint scheme, and the start time to my P-51D which I was using in the Final Approach to Lochinvini (sp) Quick Mission in the original v 1 of DCS World I was told the following: HOW TO FIND A PAINT SCHEME AND ADD PAYLOAD 1. Go to Mission Editor 2. Click Open File (top left of screen0 3. Find mission via top right block of the drop down menu and click OPEN 4. Click aircraft icon on map 5. Click payload icon to right of screen 6. On payload screen select Paint Scheme from drop down menu, choose and click SAVE How TO CHANGE TIME IN THE MISSION EDITOR 1. Open ME 2. Select file and OPEN 3. Step one level up through selecting the "..." folder 4. Select Campaign 5. Select whichever mission you want 6. Select the briefing button indicated on picture 7. Change time on it and SAVE Unfortunately, while these directions worked in my original game, they don't do so now as the format has evidently changed. In the first category, when I open the ME and click open the second icon from the left hand side of the screen (Open File) I get a blue screen with two choices only, New Mission or Open File. The Open File has only three choices, a blank folder, a folder labeled Campaigns, and something called an MG.miz file. None of these choices pertain to what I want to do. There is no top right block with any extra choices. If I click on the MG.miz file a map opens but it is not for the mission I wanted/selected. Instead it is for some kind of jet mission with red and blue forces and a list of threats, which has nothing at all to do with the landing approach P-51D mission. In the second case I had much the same problem. When I try selecting the Landing Approach mission I can't find it. in the list. So I can go no farther. An alternative method was suggested which was: !. Select Mission and start. 2. Once the Briefing Screen comes up click CANCEL and leave screen to the Main Page 3. Choose Mission Editor (which is supposed to bring up the last map selected) 4. Choose CREATE MISSION BRIEFING 5. When this opens look for the START line and change the time 6. Choose SAVE and click FLY This doesn't work either. After selecting the Final Approach mission and getting to the Briefing Screen there is no CANCEL button so I let the mission start then hit ESC and exited back to the Main Menu. I clicked on the Mission Editor, but this brought me to the screen mentioned above. I can't use step 4 because the CREATE MISSION BRIEFING icon is greyed out and so cannot be clicked open. The only two choices are the New Mission and Open File options mentioned above, which lead nowhere. So I have no way to get to Step 5. I would appreciate anyone who can give me any help in straightening this out. I would also like to know if there is a tutorial somewhere that explains how to make new missions in DCS (including the use of the Assets Pack). I know how to do this in IL-46 and Cliffs of Dover Blitz so if this is similar I would have a leg up. Thanks in advance to all who take the time to answer. NavyAce
  17. Here's a bit more information. I just checked the controls settings of my P-51D and P-47D (where the HAT button is working) against the SPit IX (which is not) and found that in all three cases the View Down L/R Slow and Down Slow, ViewL/R Slow and Up L/R Slow and Up Slow are all identically assigned to the HAT button but those in the Spit are not functioning. Should I delete these assignments and try to reassign? I also found out that I can move around in the external view using the mouse, but this does not work for the internal view.
  18. Hello, I hope someone can help me with this. I have started playing around with DCS after a long layoff and have uncovered a bit of a problem. When using both the internal f1 and external f2 views with the Spitfire selected, I find that I have no control in either view with the HAT botton on top of my joystick. I have to use the Num keys on the right of the keyboard with requires multiple taps to move the view to any extent. I also have the P-51D and the P-47D installed and working, and both views in both aircraft are controllable using the HAT button. I don't remember having had to set this up myself after the install but perhaps I have forgotten. Can somebody tell me how to set this up? Thanks. NavyAce
  19. Thanks for the additional information Sokol1. I will definitely check out the links. By the way, your observation of the control stick length of WWII fighters was correct. I gave the 3-4 foot length as an approximation from my last SNJ flight which was several years ago. Evidently my memory was not up to the task. As a test I got out a yardstick and sat down in a chair approximating the height of the aircraft seat and placed the yardstick between my knees. When I grabbed the yardstick with my arm resting on my leg, which would be the normal in flight position, I found that I had grasped the yardstick right at the two foot mark. So two feet is actually what i need.
  20. Thanks random and Buzz for your information on stick extensions. I looked at the sites for VKB and Virpil and found them interesting and not overly expensive. But the length was only 200 mm so only about 8 inches. It doesn't say in the product description but do you know if two or more of these extensions can be screwed together to get extra length? I remember that the SNJ stick seemed to be around 2.5-3 feet in length so one extension would be more realistic than none, but not as good as more. It would be great if I could find a stick premade in the length I want as as not to have to put on any extensions, and I did in fact find one advertised years ago that replicated a German WWII fighter stick, but this was priced then at about $700 so obviously out of my price range. I also found the last third of the video most informative and will keep it handy for future reference. Thanks again guys for all your help. NavyAce
  21. Oh, I forgot to ask. If I want to tweak some of my settings by adjusting the sliders, which way is which? For example if I want less sensitivity, left or right? Same for dead zones and saturation.
  22. Thanks Rebel All help is greatly appreciated. I am using Saitek Pro rudder pedals. NavyAce
  23. Thanks Baldrick, I should have clarified that I don't want the extension for my Thrustmaster. I would have to purchase a Warthog stick first and then add the extension to it.
