  1. Hi again SmirkingGerbil, I found a link on internet connection speeds by using the search engine and found out according to that link that, using a wireless connection I have a rate of between 39-72 Mbps. I am glad that my work should be saved. So if I understand you correctly if I log in to the DCS World website, go to the Module Manager and find the install module box (with six checked items) and click OK the program should pick up where I left off. If I don't see the delta index download when I do this I would assume the download is starting over? I look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks for sticking with me as this is very frustrating.
  2. Hi SmirkingGerbil, I am a hopelessly inept person when it comes to things computer-wise. How would I find out my internet connection speed? I used up all of my high speed connectivity earlier in the month trying to install DCS World v 2.5.6 and finally had to take it to a professional installer. Now I need to get my modules installed. By the way, I was about 15 hours into the delta index download (these as above are I guess huge terrain files) with the program still running as evidenced by the moving green and when I got up I found our power had gone out. I rebooted the computer but don't see any modules installed. When power is lost and the computer shuts itself off does this mean that all of the downloading I had accomplished was lost and I'll have to start over? Or is it saved somewhere. If I have to restart from scratch should I click on the OK button in the module install box or click on the Install button off to the right. I had previously used the former. Thanks. NavyAce
  3. Thanks Nirvi. Here's a follow up question. I was about 15 hours into the delta index download (these as above are I guess huge terrain files) with the program still running as evidenced by the moving green and when I got up I found our power had gone out. I rebooted the computer but don't see any modules installed. 4. How long would someone estimate it would take the delta index to download to DCS World 2.5.6 as mine has been running now for over 10 hours. I know the files are huge but I'm not very computer savvy so would like to get an expert opinion. I'm going to bed now and will let it run overnight and check in the morning. NavyAce
  5. Thanks Tinkickef for responding so quickly. One last question if I may. If I let the computer run overnight and look in at noontime, which will be 24 hours from the start time, wouold you estimate that even with my slow computer everything would be done by then? Do you think maybe sooner? I'm four hours in right now and I assume from what you say that this is not unusual. Any guess you could make would be greatly appreciated.
  6. I am trying to get my aircraft and terrain modules installed in DCS World 2.5.6 and I have a question. The installer installed the first two downloads fairly quickly (installer and transfer of v 2 files) but the third one (delta index has been running for over four hours now. I do have a slow computer. What is the delta index and is this a normal download time? Any clarification would be appreciated. NavyAce
  7. Figured it out. I thought I was online but in reality I had not gotten my device working properly. Once I straightened that out and got a good signal that I was indeed connected I went to DCS World 2.5.6 and the Module Manager showed that my modules (including those from my earlier versions) were there to be installed. Sorry for the false alarm.
  8. Hi, I finally got my DCS World 2.5.6 successfully installed by a professional tech as I couldn't seem to make it work. But when I went and looked in the Module Manager the P-47D wasn't there. (Neither was my Spitfire iX). Now that I have the correct version of DCS World installed and working I'd like to put the P-47D in it but I can't find it anywhere. I paid for it and got a confirmation email that I had purchased it but I can't find the download or install links for it. Where can I find my airplane? Thanks. NavyAce
  9. Hi Art, Thanks for the reply. Excuse my ignorance but I was only trying to start the sim after v 2.5.6 had been installed by clicking on my new desktop icon the way I start my Open Alpha2 version. I shouldn't have to go on line to the ED webshop just to do that, right? So there would be no need for me to login. As an experiment I tried to start my Open Alpha 2 version by clicking on the desktop icon, and although it also gave me an error message of could not resolve host name, I let it sit for a minute or two and eventually the sim started loading and I was able to get to the home page to set up a flight. I uninstalled the 2.5.6 version again and reinstalled it, using C:\Program Files\Flight Sim (new folder) and was able to get a successfully installed message again, but again when I tried to start the sim up I got the same old error message. This time I waited a good five minutes but nothing happened. Then I tried going on line and logging in to the website's home page and then clicked on the icon. This time I got a screen that said checking updates. The next thing I knew I was watching it update and transfer files. After watching this for about a half hour I left and came back two hours later to find it still going. I left the computer running all night to give the program time to finish but when I checked the next morning it was still running. (The installer was 2.9.16.18) The files all appeared to be huge (70,000+KB I think) and my transfer time wasn't particularly fast. Finally, the whole process stopped in the middle of one update (approx. 11,600KB) and wasn't moving. I have now apparently used up all of my high speed transfer data for my billing period which won't reset until the third week of this month. I finally had to cancel the whole process and think I will have to take my machine to an electronics store and have a tech try to set up things for me with a high speed in store connection. Anyway, since you were nice enough to try and help me with this I thought you would like to know how I am makingout. NavyAce
  10. Hi Art, Thanks for the reply. I have just tried to install 2.5.6 and am having trouble. I have tried installing it using the default pathways given by the install Wizard C;\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 1.5 and also by browsing the pathway options and using one of my own and can get a successfully installed message from the Wizard but when I click on the icon to try and run the game I get an error message from the 2.9 updater that says Couldn't Resolve Client Name. Any idea what's going on? Thanks. NavyAce
  11. Hi, I am doing a cut and paste from another thread to get some more input. I am going to try and install my new version of DCS World (2.5.6) but I have a question. My current pathway for both my 1.5 and 2.0 Open Alpha versions is as follows: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics. When I click on the installer it wants to send my new version to C;\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 1.5 but 1.5 is a separate folder inside the eagle Dynamics folder. Should I accept this pathway? And Should I change PF to PF x 86? This might be better as I am running a newer more powerful machine now and there wouldn't be any other folder in the x86 folder to confuse things. Also. should I try to port over my Mustang and Spitfire from my v 2.0, or will they and my Nevada test range terrain be picked up automatically in the install of my new DCS version? Thanks. NavyAce
  12. Thanks guys. I am going to try and install my new version of DCS World (2.5.6) but I have a question. 13. Ni BIGNEWY, Thanks for the quick reply.I tried a right click on the desktop icon to see if I could simply do an automatic update but when I did that I didn't get a response other than an error message saying the computer couldn't find/access something.I got to the pathway it said C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 1.5\DCS World. I followed this pathway and found both versions (v 1.5 and the Open Alpha 2) in the same folder. This was the original default location when I first installed DCS World many years ago, so the computer chose Program Files. I am now running a newer much more powerful computer so I am wondering if I should move the Eagle Dynamics folder to Program Files x 86 and delete the one in Program Files. Does the new version simply overwrite the old files automatically, or do I need to delete anything first? Don't I need the missing links for the install? I still can't find them. NavyAce
  14. Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I recently purchased the P-47D Module and the install links duly appeared via email, as the new system does not send product keys anymore. Unfortunately for some reason they landed in my Junk mail box and I didn't immediately success them as I was busy with another project sand thought I had plenty of time. Again unfortunately I forgot that my computer automatically empties my Junk box after a certain time to keep it from overfilling. The result was that by the time I got back to looking for the links they were gone. I checked every folder in my email program as well as looking in my recycle bin and have not been able to locate them. This was entirely my fault, but now I'm trying to figure out how to replace the links. Is there some way to have DCS World resend them to me? If so how? Do I just have to repurchase the module and eat the cost, or can I get DCS World to resend them at no cost. I obviously have an account here but I can find no trace of the links, even though the module is bound to my account, and it does not show up in the Module Manager under any of the tabs. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you. NavyAce
  15. Hello, I hope there are some knowledgeable folks out there who can help a not very computer savvy guy like me. I am currently running the original DCS World (1.0) with the P-51D Module installed and all is working well. I ordered the P-40 back in July 2015 and purchased the Nevada Test range module as soon as it was offered so I could get some non-Russian scenery to fly in. According to my account my payment was accepted and I have the registration code accessible there, but to date I have not received either there or in my email account any links to download the .exe files for installation. While waiting for this I recently decided to upgrade my DCS World to v 2.0, which I would need to use the NTTR module and the P-40. I downloaded v 2.0 from the website and followed the auto-installer instructions and clicked Finish. I have a desk top icon which I clicked to examine the new DCS World but nothing happened. I tried several different times, including clicking on the Open Alpha. Update.exe in the DCS World Open Alpha 2.0 folder to try to launch the program with no success. A small box flashes for a second on the screen but then disappears. I've tried waiting for as long as five minutes but nothing happens. I'd like to know three things. 1.) How can I get DCS World v.2 to load. 2.) How do I find and install the Nevada Test Range to DCS World v.2? Or does it auto-install with v.2? 3.) How do I get my P-51D into v.2 so I can fly it there. Thanks for your help. I really need to understand what is going on. I'm not very computer savvy so please bear with me. NavyAce
  16. Thanks for all the replies. The mouse wheel did indeed do the trick. Did you get my PM Maulkin? let me know if the info helped. NavyAce
  17. Hello, I am hoping someone can help me with a small problem. When I visited Duxford for the airshow this past July I spoke with Chris Ellis, who was kind enough to walk me through the steps needed to create a new mission file. However, when I got home and attempted to follow my notes, I couldn't get past the second step, which was to select an airfield with the mouse, and then zoom in to establish a parking spot on the apron. When I selected an airfield I couldn't get the screen to zoom in. I tried using the RShift+Num* keys and the Num*+Enter keys and various other combinations, including the standard = and - keys used by FSX, but to no avail. Does anyone know how to zoom in on a selected airfield? Thanks for your help. NavyAce Wayne
  18. Dear ishtmail, I quite agree that the ground crew option should be included for realism. Not only for the prop pull, but for plugging in and unplugging an external power cart, as this was the preferred method of starting. I actually suggested this to someone connected with FSX, as I have a lot of addons there, but heard nothing back. However, if you have A2A's Spitfire program in FSX, this actually is an option, but it is just aircraft specific. Pretty cool though. It even will let you have the ground crew hold the tail down while you run up the engine! And yes a walk around option would also be great. I am a retired airline captain and I know that visual pre and post flight inspections were part of every flight. I know you can pan around the aircraft with the HOTAS button and zoom in and out but this is not the same as a first person visual. I think most of these things could be assigned as keyboard commands. Another neat thing would be to be able to program a set of virtual arms and legs in the cockpit so you could see them working the rudder pedals, moving the stick and engine controls, and flipping switches, mimicking what you were doing at your desk, instead of watching all this happening in an empty cockpit. I have no idea how that could be programmed, but it sure would be neat. Anyway, if you want to discuss other thoughts please give me a shout. NavyAce
  19. I don't have the downloaded manual for the DCS P-51D as I already had the softcover WWII-issued version, so I can't say if they are identical or not. I just put up the post for those who may not have it so they could compare it to the Training Missions. And, no, as far as I know there is no way to have the ground crew pull the prop through before starting, although this would be a nice option to have for realism. (You can't get this is FSX either). I just put that at the top of the list so that those who had read the earlier post about the Pre-Start checkplist would know why I had the Mags and Battery Switch OFF, whereas in the Training Mission they are supposed to be ON. I realise the latter was designed that way for ease of virtual starting, especially since the real procedure called for doing two different operations at once with two hands, but I wanted to show that it could be done in the virtual world if someone wanted to do so. I am just trying to share my experiences with others in the sim community. NavyAce
  20. Just putting out info I realise many of you have the manual. This was for those who do not. As regarding the start procedure I listed this was merely to give those who don't have the manual an idea of how it differed from the Training Mission. This is just for information guys. Make of it what you will. NavyAce
  21. For those who want a more challenging but more realistic start here is the procedure from the Mustang manual. Have ground crew pull prop through several revolutions. (This is why the Mags and Battery were left off earlier.) Battery switch ON (If no GPU plugged in and I dont think there is an option for that here) Oil and Coolant Radiators OPEN. (This was to be done manually to check the operation of the switches and so the ground crew could hear the motors running to check for correct functioning). To do this, move the mouse to the right of each switch until you find a label that says OPEN. Then left click and the switch will move to the right. Hold the left mouse button down to keep the switch to the right, as it is spring loaded. Release after about 17-20 seconds. Repeat for other switch. Leave in manual. Starter ON. (After some experimentation I have found that the following works best for me. Use the HOME key to activate the starter with the middle finger of your right hand, while positioning your mouse over the BOTH selection of the ignition switch. Hold starter down.) After prop has swung through 2-3 blades left click mouse switch to select mags to BOTH Quickly tap the Delete key with your right forefinger to turn on the Fuel Boost Pump. Quickly press and momentarily hold the Insert key with your right forefinger to flip on the Prime Switch When the engine fires Mixture to Run with either a mouse click or use the LCtrl+M combo. Oil pressure (triple gauge lower right corner of instrument panel) should come up to 50 psi within 30 seconds. If not shut down. This is much more complicated than the training mission and takes a lot of practice since it sometimes requires doing two operations simultaneously, but it can be done and I find it ultimately more rewarding. Again, please give me some feedback. And if you have anything else you would like to know, since I have the manual I may be able to look it up for you. The next two posts will be up by tomorrow. NavyAce
  22. I have the original P-51D Pilot's Manual and have been comparing flying the simulation to what the book says. I have three more posts covering realistic engine starting, after start pre-takeoff checks, and some airspeed data to help in making good approaches and landings. Herewith the Pre-Start Checklist as it differs from that in the Training Mission. The first few items can be dispensed with as they relate to seat positioning, seat belts, and rudder pedal adjustment, which are not needed. Do a control check, after making sure that the stick is unlocked. The carb ram air control should be in the rear (UNRAMMED AIR) position as this was where the manual says to leave it for all ground ops. Leave the coolant and oil radiator switches out of AUTO for now. They will need to be manually opened later. Check the Windshield Defroster and Hot Air Control knobs are set to OFF. To do this, look straight down to the cockpit floor, as these controls are under the forward edge of the seat. Then use the RCtrl+RShift+Num4 and RCtrl+RShift+Num6 to move sideways in the cockpit, and then use the Num* key to move forward so you can see under the seat. While down here you can check the left and right fuel gauges which are also under the forward edge of the seat. To check the fuselage tank, pan back up into the cockpit and swivel around to face the back of the pilot's seat. Now use the RCtrl+RShift+ Num6 combo to move to the right of the screen and you will see the gauge behind the pilot's seat. Check the gunsight gyromotor switch ON (This is if you have selected GYRO on the rotary switch located on the subpanel below the left edge of the instrument panel.) The labels on the toggle switch are hard too read in normal view, but the ON position is down. (The labels are actually printed upside down). or Check the gunsight selector switch to FIXED. (This is the other option on the rotary switch) Gyro Instruments uncaged. (Mouseclick and twist) Set Field Elevation. (Note altimeter) Note Manifold Pressure reading (Needed for an after start test) Fuel Boost Pump OFF. Turned on during start Ignition switch OFF. Turned on during start Landing gear lights (Battery Switch momentarily on to check then OFF). Check green light comes on and press rt hand light to make sure red light illuminates. Check the red Landing Gear Fairing Door Emergency Release T-handle IN. This is located on the lower sub panel to the right of the fuel selector knob and is labeled Hydraulic Release Knob. Check Oxygen Gauge for at least 400 psi. Note that anything not mentioned here was covered in the Training Mission and was accurate as to switch or lever position. This is strictly for those like me who are sticklers for realism and accuracy, as it does make the procedure a bit more difficult and time consuming. I will have the other three posts up within the next day or so. Please let me know if you find them enjoyable and informative. NavyAce
  23. I have recently upgraded my original Beta pre-release version of DCS World and the P-51D Mustang, which I had gotten to work fine after some tweaking, to the newest one, 1.2.2.7286_39 which is not working so well. Mostly this relates to sticking keys, namely the ESC key which will not let me exit the mission, and the F1 and F2 keys which stop toggeling between the internal cockpit and external views. Also after landing the HOTAS switch on my stick will no longer pan around the screen, and tapping the W key for the brakes will slow the airplane but not bring it to a complete stop. I had some initial problems with the install, but after deleting the files and folders from the original version I had success. In fact the new program ran fine for the first day. It wasn't until the next day that the problems occurred. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the new version at least three times but the problems persist. I am at my wits end trying to figure this out. I could sure use some moderator help here. There is some other data that might be relevant but it would take too long to explain and this message is long enough as it is. If anybody could help I would be much appreciative. If email correspondence is easier we could do that if you wish to trade email addresses. By the way, does anyone know if 159thViper is still around? We traded email addresses a while back while he was helping me with another problem and we had continued to send messages back and forth there and PMs on the forum, but I have not heard from him in about a month. I hope all is well with him as he is a nice guy and helped me a lot. NavyAce
  24. Dear Aldega, I have downloaded the following files for DCS World 1.2.2: DCS_World_release_en_1.2.2.7122_19(1) This is the installer DCS_World_release_en_1.2.2.7122_19 DCS_World_release_en_1.2.2.7122_19-1.bin DCS_World_release_en_1.2.2.7122_19-2.bin DCS_World_release_en_1.2.2.7122_19-3.bin The first application file has a (1) next to it I believe because of a first attempt to use it to install the program which failed for some reason. I would also like to know if v 1.2.2.7122 includes the fixes in 1.2.1 or is it a stand alone and I would need to install the previous v first? I was actually trying to do that but had install problems which is why I am trying to install the next update, 1.2.2 Wayne NavyAce
  25. Hi, I don't know if anyone else is having a problem with this, but here goes. I have the pre-release Beta version of DCS World and the P-51D and they installed with no problem. I then tried to install the first update, which I think was 1.2.1. I downloaded it fine but it wouldn't install. Then I decided to try the latest version and downloaded 1.2.2.7122_19 (DCS and P-51D). I was able to open the installer application for DCS World, but when I tried to run it I found that after getting through the first couple of screens it told me to Please Insert Disk 1. Well this is a download so there isn't any disk to insert. I also tried running the P-51D installer application but again, I could open it but after a couple of screens I got an error message saying that I could, "Not install P-51D 1.2.2.7122 into older DCS World 1.1.2.1" and that I should use the Update DCS World menu and try again. But I tried to load the new version and was told I needed a disk that doesn'T exist in the download version. I actually prefer disks to downloads but the site doesn't tell how to order one. Can you help. Thanks. Wayne
