Hi, I now have my new 2.5.6 version up and running. I still have my original DCS World and DCS World 2 Open Alpha on my hard drive. All of my modules have been safely ported over and are working. Can I safely delete these previous versions and free up hard drive space without affecting 2.5.6? thank you. NavyAce

P-47 Rolls With Throttle And No Stick INput
NavyAce replied to NavyAce's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
How do I take a screenshot? -
Hi Flappie, Thanks for the reminder. I followed your instructions and viola! That's what I get for being away so long. Might I also ask you a couple of other quickies? Do you have any joystick settings for the P-47D, P-51D and Spit IX that would replicate the actual stick and rudder pedal forces found in the real aircraft? If so is there a way to save them so I can select them when I select the aircraft so I don't have to manually change them each time I fly a different aircraft? I'm also thinking of getting the I-16 and the Channel map. Do you know how much these run? I can't seem to find this infoprmation on the site anywhere and I don't want to click buy just to find out. I also thought I remembered a map for the Marshall Islands coming out for DCS World but I don't see it for sale. Perhaps I am thinking about another platform? Anyway, thanks for the quick reply. P-47 Rolls With Throttle And No Stick INput
NavyAce replied to NavyAce's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I'll try but it might take a bit for me to figure out how to do it. -
Hi, It's been a while since I've played with the game and I've forgotten something. I know I did this when I first set up my joystick for the original P-51D. Where and how do I go about finding the page/screen where I can set up my joystick (sensitivity, dead zones, ect.) Thanks. NavyAce

Hi again, I recently mentioned a problem I was having with my aircraft in my newly installed 2.5.6 version of DCS World, where I noticed a slight throttle movement from my Saitek Throttle Quadrant would result in a violent uncommanded rolling motion. After some experimentation with the P-47D I noticed that when I had mapped the throttle command to my Quadrant it had for some reason taken the same assignment as that already given to my Roll Axis, both of which were now Joy_X, even though moving my throttle lever to assign the control should have had nothing to do with a Joystick assignment. I tried letting the throttle assignment alone as the game seemed to want it there, but then I had trouble reassigning the roll axis as it would always come up as Joy_X whenever I moved the stick. And unlike the P-51D and the Spit IX there didn't seem to be any Joy_Z assignment option, there didn't seem to be one for the P-47D. I finally got around this by adding a modifier to the drop down list and assigning a joystick button to it, so that now as long as I move the throttle lever while holding the joystick button down the snap rolling has disappeared and I verified that the MP and RPM gauges show correct readings as the power is increased and decreased. This seems a bit awkward to have to do but I couldn't finf any other way to fix the problem. Does anyone else have any ideas or has any other posts been made about this? Thank you. NavyAce

Hello, I hope someone out there has an answer for this. I just recently installed DCS World v 2.5.6 in a brand new sustom built computer I purchased just to run the new version and the plane modules I had purchased (P-51D, Spit IX, and the most recent one P-47D). I had previously been running Open Alpha (v 2.1) on my previous Win 10 computer (a cyberpower) and had not noticed this problem after installing the two earlier aircraft and two terrain modules. The sim loads normally and after the setup page presents itself I have tried selecting an aircraft and terrain from Instant Action and then clicking Fly. The problem that I am now encountering is that when the aircraft starts moving and I advance the throttle on my Saitek Throttle Quadrant I get a very violent roll response instead of a power increase (I don't notice the MP gauge or Tach moving at all) to 90 degrees or more. I thought this might be connected to engine torque, but I'm only moving the throttle about a quarter of an inch or less and the roll is not consistent, sometimes going to the right sometimes to the left. Does anyone have any ideas about this? NavyAce

My Thanks To All Who Contributed, I thought I would let one and all know that I went the new computer route. I now have a machine with the following specs: 4.0GHz Intel Core i7-6700K CPU, 500 GB Solid Statte Drive, 32 GB DDR4 PC4-3600 system memory, 8 GB Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics card, Gigabit RJ45 LAN, 9 USB ports, Windows 10 Home 64 bit OS, and a high end power source as well as a new motherboard. I had the tech install and test all of my modules, including the new terrain files and all three of my add on aircraft (P-47D, P-51D, and Spit IX) and everything is loading and working smoothly. I now have to find accurate control settings (sensitivity and dead zones) for all three aircraft, as during my trials they appear to be over sensitive or lagging in control response. I will post the latter as a seperate subject but if anyone who reads this has any suggestions I would welcome them here. It was a lot of money but apparently well spent. NavyAce

Hi Guys, Here's the latest for all of you who have tried to help me and given me advice. I found a third party (not associated with a big store chain) who runs his own business who, after a phone conversation detailing my machine and my needs, agreed to look into it. I took the machine in to him today and after looking at it he said that it could in fact be upgraded. However, by the time he had installed all of the relevant components, including a power source and motherboard, it would be within about $100 of a new machine. He also scratch builds computers and actually had one he had just finished for about $1100 that has what I need and a bit more. This will give me 32 gigs of RAM, the latest video/graphics card, an upgraded CPU and new motherboard. He has assured me this will enable DCS World 2.5.6 to work (he checked the specs for it on line while I waited) along with all of my modules, and will test everything out first before I pick it up, probably on Friday. I hope this is the end of my odyssey and will let everyone know how this works out. Thanks to all for your help, patience, and advice. NavyAce

Hey Art, I just rechecked and found that although the original topic was introduced in the P-47D sub heading, page one is also now under the Fw 190 subheading with page two. Not sure how this happened.
-
Thanks for the input Rob. I'll shop around and see if I can make the old Win 10 computer work with the specs you have mentioned. Art, the original post was placed under the P-47D heading (I clicked backward and verified this) and also page one. For some reason page two came up in the FW-190 sub heading. NavyAce

Hi guys, Here's an update. I decided on trying to upgrade my current machine so I went to Best Buy and got a matched pair of 8 GB RAM sticks and an 8 GB VRAM video card and left the desktop there for the install. I got a call later that same night saying one of the techs had started to look at the machine and said that since it was four years old none of the new components would work with it. Something to do with the motherboard. He said a bunch of other technical stuff, which I didn't understand, but basically it comes down to my machine being incapable of being upgraded. There are no parts available that will work with it due to the age and whatever is going on with the motherboard. So now, if I want to make 2.5.6 and the modules I have purchased work in it I am now going to have to buy a third computer, and try to port over all my programs from the other two. I don't have a ton of money to invest in this, so I was wondering if you could suggest a machine that would do all I need it to do without breaking the bank, hopefully something not over about $700. And what specs would you suggest from your own experience? Any suggestions? Also I am wondering if I get a new machine will I be able to play all of my older games. I have many, such as CFS3, Il-46, B-17 The Mighty Eighth, FS9, and shooters like Medal of Honor Pacific Theater, and Brothers in Arms. I know that usually older games will run in newer machines and not vice versa, but I have found some exceptions such as CFS2 not working on my Win 7 desktop but will still play on my old laptop which is running XP. If the answer is no I may have to keep the older machine just to play the older games. So that's where things stand right now. I look forward to hearing any input NavyAce

Thanks Gerb and Ian. I've already printed out your posts (I'll add this one) and have gone to Best Buy and made an appointment (Thursday) to have an update done with all of your suggestions. Strangely enough they said that they can sell a video card to me but not install it! Imagine that. Last option if all else fails I took a quick look at a new rig with the recommended specs and that would run $800-$1000. Ouch. Well let's hope it doesn't come to that. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Peganus and Ian, I tried the pagefile thing and that didn't work. I'm surprised when you say the computer is below spec. I specifically purchased this Win 10 machine to operate the later versions of DCS when my older Win 7 desktop couldn't handle anything over the original DCS World release. I thought I remembered the P-51D and Spit IX working in the OpenAlpha v 2.1 version when I installed them but that was a few years ago now and maybe I'm not remembering correctly. The tech at Best Buy where I purchased the Cyberpower Win 10 machine told me when I asked him if it would run the later DCS programs he said it would. But even if so it certainly doesn't appear to be doing the job now. By the way, I am getting that not resolving host name on both v 2.1 and v 2.5.6. You say that is not being logged into DCS but I was on line each time I tried to play and logged into 2.5.6 because I remember having to click the authorize button for my saved password. If this was not recognized I wouldn't have been taken to the Mission Set Up page, but I was and I saw my handle along the upper task bar showing I was logged in. I don't know what else I can do to get the host name recognized. I'm not sure aboout the new machine option. I put a lot of money into purchasing this one specifically for DCS World and I need to keep the Win 7 desktop at least for now as I have a lot of addons there that I would have trouble porting over. So now I have two machines on my desk. Even if I could afford a third one what would I do with the Cyberpower Win 10 machine I have now? I'd like to think first about making things work on the Cyberpower. How about starting by adding RAM? Surely this is possible for a machine only a couple of years old. How about getting a more powerful processor and/or graphics card? I would be willing to pay a reasonable amount to add whatever I needed to get this to work as I hate to throw out something that is actually working (as in I can internet connect, do emails, write docs, etc.) Besides getting a new machine have you any ideas how I should proceed if I want to try to do an upgrade? One final thing. Four years ago at the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford I purchased the P-40 that was in pre release and I have yet to see anything about it, although at the next year's show they were demonstrating a working pre production version of it. I have heard a rumor that this is now not going to be available. True? If so what about all of us who paid good money on good faith for a product that does not now exist? Thanks guys. I appreciate your expertise and time in going through all of my frustrations. I will gladly accept any help and any suggestions you can make. NavyAce (Wayne)

Hi Paganus, Here is some more information for you. First of all I tried the DCS Repair and got a message saying it had successfully completed its task. Unfortunately it didn't do any good. I tried the P-47 and the P-51D (which I was able to successfully install last night along with my Spit IX) in 2.5.6 as a Free Flight. I don't know if this means anything but the loading time to get to the mission screen took forever, probably 5-6 minutes. Then when I got there and pressed the Pause/Break key the selected aircraft appeared after a minute or two of frozen screen but in the case of the P-47D it showed up with its prop stopped and after over 5 minutes it had still not moved in spite of repeated commands from the keyboard and inputs from my joystick and the mouse arrow had disappeared to be replaced by an +. I tried to Exit back to the mission page but repeated presses of the Esc key failed to bring up the options box for several minutes, after which it took several more minutes after clicking Exit for the game to respond. After getting back there I selected the P-51D to see if this was aircraft specific. Again long loading times and when I clicked Pause/Break and Fly initially for a second or two the airplane moved but then started intermitantly stuttering and finally locked up again and I had the same problem exiting. I then closed out of 2.5.6 (which works fine as long as you don't try to load any airplanes and fly them) after the usual lagging response time and decided to try a second test with my OpenAlpha v2.1 version, where I seemed to remember my P-51D and Spitfire working normally, to see if the problem was with 2.5.6 or something else. The load times seemed a bit less but still rather long but when I got to the Mission page I tried Free Flights for both the P-51D with the Nevada Test Range scenery and the Spitfire IX with the Normandy scenery. The P-51D was very sensitive around all three flight axis but I think I could have damped that out with practice and adjustments in the Controls section, but did not appear to have too much stuttering. On the other hand, the Spitfire jerked all over the place when it would move at all, and there were times when it would lock up and not respond to any control inputs for several seconds at a time and then move wildly in the direction of input to the point where control was lost and I crashed. I don't remember this happening when last I used this platform. By the way I associate stuttering with frame rates but I don't know if tvhat is what is happening here, and that wouldn't explain the lock ups. As a further test I booted up and tried my FSX flight simulator and that works normally in every sense with several different aircraft. Below is my v 2.5.6 dcs.log from today's effort. It will probably have data from both planes I guess. === Log opened UTC 2020-08-14 18:32:29 2020-08-14 18:32:28.234 INFO DCS: Command line: "C:\Program Files\Flight Sim\DCS World\bin/DCS.exe" Hello, I hope someone can shed some light on this. I have recently, after much frustration, gotten my v 2.5.6 installed and have successfully downloaded and installed my P-47D30. However when I tried to test the install I ran into a problem. I tried a Free Flight with the module's default scenery, which is the Caucaus. The loading took a long time, which I attributed to the fact that this was the first time this action was being done and the computer was therefore a bit slow. However, when the loading finally stopped and the start screen appeared and I used the Pause/Break key to start, when the plane appeared the screen promptly froze, stuttered a few times, and then locked up solid. I couldn't get any response to any of my key commands, including when I tried to exit back to the main page. I finally had to shut down the computer using the power button on the tower to get it to turn off. I rebooted and tried a similar mission using the default TP-51D, which wasn't much better. The screen didn't get totally locked up but there was a lot of stuttering and when I moved my joystick, instead of smooth movements, there was a lot of jerking around. So apparently the problem doesn't lie with the newly installed P-47D. I have since disabled the module for the default Russian jet and the jsAvionic , the latter of which I had never purchased or installed and which seemed to have shown up only after all of my earlier key punching. Any light that anyone can shed on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. NavyAce

Hi Gerb, I wanted to let you know I've learned something and had a bit of success. After another failed attempt to install my six modules I called my internet provider (Verizon) to see if something was going on with them along the lines of what you suggested, namely a metering or watching data consumption. The first tech I spoke to said there was no such thing on my account but passed me to a tech on another tier for further consultation. It was here that I learned that although I have an unlimited data for my monthly plan, this was for basic use only, as in internet connection. But, I have a 22GB/day cap on data transfer, in other words downloading files. So evidently what was happening was that I would start that big download and after I hit my daily limit it would stop. This explains the stalling I was having. So basically trying to download and install all six of my modules at one time was simply overloading my computer because it didn't have the capacity to handle what I wanted in one day. Once I knew this I tried another tack. I went to the Module Manager and closed the box with the six modules in it and then clicked the install button for my latest purchase, which was the P-47D. I got a dialog box saying "Found 3035 files with 32996835598 bytes left from an unfinished download which are not needed for the current operation. Do you want to delete them? Yes. No. Well I figured I didn't want to lose what little data I had already collected so I clicked No and the install started immediately. It went through the usual checks in about a minute and then I got a dialog box that told me the plane download only had 371.9 MBytes to download, in stead of the 29,000+ I was getting when I tried to install all six modules at one time. This took a little less than an hour and the install and cleanup went quickly. So now I am thinking that the way to go is to install my other two planes and the Assets Pack seperately, popssibly on different days, and leave the large terrain files for the techs at Best Buy. One thing, though. After getting the plane installed I decided to test it to make sure everything was working correctly. I selected the P-47D and tried a Free Flight with the module's default scenery, which is the Caucaus. The loading took a long time, which I attributed to the fact that this was the first time this action was being done and the computer was therefore a bit slow. I anticipated successive missions to load faster. However, when the loading finally stopped and the start screen appeared and I used the Pause/Break key to start as directed, when the plane appeared the screen promptly froze, stuttered a few times, and then locked up solid. I have since disabled the module for the default Russian jet and the jsAvionics, which I did't purchase or install but just seems to have showed up on its own after all the key punching I did earlier. Anyway, long story long, this is where I am as of the end of today. Any further comments or help you would like to impart to me (especially regarding the screen freezing) would be most welcome. A final thought for the night. If this restart doesn't work, what would you think of trying another way to do this. I have six modules to install. Three airplanes (P-47D new, P-51D, Spitfire IX from V 2) two terrains (big files Normandy and Nevada Test Range) and the WW II Assets Pack, these latter also from v 2. I was thinking maybe I could speed things up by unchecking all but one of these modules and try installing just one to see how it goes. Then I could install the others one at a time. What do you think?

Hi Gerb, I am with Verizon for my internet connection. I am being metered in the sense that I have only so much high speed transfer data per month and I already exceeded that with the attempt of my DCS World install, so I am now slowed down until my account resets on the 21st. However this is only a slow down. The download should proceed at a slower rate. Anyway. I am going to start again and see what happens.

Hi again Gerb, I just checked my download and found that it had stalled at 1288.9 Mbytes. It's been sitting there for probably over half an hour. I'm not sure why. I checked my disc space and I have only used 2 GB since I started so I still have 607 to go out of 930. The only thing I can think of to do is cancel the download and start over. What do you think?

Hi Gerb, The 39-74 Mbs I quoted earlier was the internet connection speed I got from the link I found in the search engine. The variable 28.3-74.1 KB/s download rate was quoted later was taken from the dialog box that popped up when I restarted the download. So far after two hours I have downloaded 750 of 29,782.9 MBytes at the variable rate of 39-74 Mbs. It's gonna be a long one! I wish I hadn't previously used up all of my high speed transfer capability.
-
I forgot to add that I have a variable 28.3-74.1 KB/s download rate so this will take a while if it works!

Hi Gerb, I just thought I'd let you know that I am trying the modules install. I went to the home page after logging in clicked module manager and OK in the install modules box. This time I got the updater but it only ran a short time the it searched cached files and then flashed on checking Open Aplpha 2 files but never downloaded any (as I had done so previously) then it went to downloading delta index for a few seconds then I got another screen saying downloading 29,782.9 MBytes. Since this came after the delta index message this is either for that (which wasn't displayed before) or something that comes after. Either way I think I might be progrerssing. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Gerb, Thanks again for such a quick reply. Perhaps the long time involved is because I used up all my high speed capability on my failed DCS World install attempt. At any rate I will try the module installs again and see what happens. Oh, by the way another guy told me that perhaps I didn't have enough disc space. I checked that and found that I have 609 GB remaining of 930 GB, so roughly 2/3 remaining.

I just checked and found out that I have 609 GB free of 930 GB total
