what are some combat maneuvers i can use to get myself out of danger, and why does my engine keep flaming out during high speed near vertical pull outs? Just a simpe list like F-5 Behind you above you = DO this F-5 Behind Below you = DO this F-5 Behind you same alt = Do This F-4 rinse and repeat I dont know when to turn and when to go vertical.

What exactly does the Angle of Intercept knob do? I noticed its got pre-selections for 12.7mm and a few others what are they used for and why?

Well I'm playing the A-A "Hard" Training Mission and I keep getting my ass kicked by this Su-27, i come in fast and low and fire off a radar guided missile at around 4.5 miles and he pops flares/chaff and evades, then i switch to IR missile and he does something like Pugachev's cobra and he s behind me. I've tried to turn and he kills me, I try to accelerate and pull straight up and do a barrel roll, and my engine flames out and he kills me, and I've tried a Split S and i ran straight into his missile and he kills me. I just can't stay on his tail long enough to either gain a lock or he turns with enough G to break the missile lock. I can't out turn him and at this point I almost always overshoot. How can I regain the advantage?

I've been playing the A-G Training mission with the KH-66 Grom missile and I have yet to hit my target. I've tried it in beam rider mode and locked on, but either the missile falls short and splashes into the sea, or the missile flies over the ship on an arch and then falls into the sea. Is there a particular attack profile i should be following? Start the dive at X ft, and dive at X degrees, and launch within X-Y km?

I'm coming from primarily playing DCS A-10C where when you get launched upon you break hard and put the missile 90 degrees and pop chaff/flares but I was wondering are the tactics the same with the MiG 21? because it doesn't turn very well. What are some good maneuvers for surviving missile attacks both from SAMs and A-A?

ah ok i tried to launch the R-60 Vympel while still under Game Flight mode, thats why i wasn't able to fire/get the light since it fixed my problem. I forgot to try that particular missile again. Thank you.
-
I've found that when i turned off Game Flight mode the IR missiles will track and fire, but oddly enough the lights still won't come on.
-
you're right it worked just fine when i switched it. Thanks everyone.

Ok switching off game flight mode seems to have solved the problem i do get a lock and can fire IR missiles however i still am not getting that light in the small vertical bank of 3 lights to the right of the paper meter to feet conversion chart, any ideas why this is? I've tried the R-3S and Vympel and no lights.

1 how do i do a video track, secondly I've tried selecting all IR missiles, or mixing them up, I turn all the necessary switches on that are on the switch panel on the right side, and Master Arm, I select AIR mode, then IR mode, the pylons are all activated, i selected ASP Rocket Mode, ASP Shooting mode, ASP Auto, and ASP IR/GYRO to IR, i lock the target up with radar, and select a pylon i know is an IR missile. I fly right behind it at 6 o'clock same altitude as the target and i don't try and fire until I'm at least 3 miles away, ive even tried as close as 0.5m and nothing also I've never once got that 1 light to come on thats to the right of the "Meters to Feet conversion paper chart" below the HUD glass. Only a few times in the A-A missile training mission did i get the IR missiles to fire and even then the light never came on. I've tried changing pylons to all 4 of them when carrying 4 IR missiles and nothing, but when i carry IR and Radar the Radar ones work fine. I've even tried using those 2 per pylon Vympel IR missiles and still no joy.

Well in the mission I'm flying I'm carrying that Jammer pod, and 4 R-3R missiles, I did it 3 times. I taxi on to the runway, I hold down the brakes and push the throttle all the way forward to burner until i start rolling, then release the brakes, pull back on the stick 4/5ths of the way, and when i leave the runway climb at about 5m/s and then hit RSHIFT+G to unlock the gear level, and hit G, and nothing happens. 3 different times. All 3 green lights on the landing gear panel stay on, the Gear lever goes up and down but the gear won't raise. I've tried doing it with keyboard commands, joystick commands, and using the mouse. I must be doing something wrong or damaging the landing gear system. In the training video they said to hold down the wheel brakes and push the throttle forward, am I not supposed to do this? Also isnt there some kind of manual gear raising equipment? Do you think its because im using the afterburner during take off instead of just full military power? and I'm not scrapping the rear end of the tail when i take off either. I have successfully taken off before but this is a bug that just keeps popping up and its getting annoying.

I'm starting the MiG 21 campaign and now 3 times in a row right after take off I'm trying to raise the landing gear and they won't retract up. Im hitting RSHIFT+G to unlock the landing gear lock, then G and the handle goes up but the 3 green lights stay on and the gear don't raise. I've even tried raising the switch manually with the mouse and nothing. I can't figure out why it won't retract on take off.

No IR missile lock audio and the gunsight doesn't track. Nothing happens. I tried switching the missile selector to my other IR missiles they just won't launch.

I'm flying the MiG 21 air to air mission and I'm having problems with the IR missiles acquiring the target. I ve got all the switches on, Master arm on, its set for AIR, and IR missiles, I've got the right Pylon selected (and powered up) ASP in Rocket mode, ASP Shooting Mode, and ASP Auto, and ASP GYRO/IR set to IR. I put the pipper on the target and i close and hit and hold the fire button from ranges from 2.5 miles to all the way to 0.4 and nothing. The Radar guided missiles work just fine though. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
-
Well mine seems to occur while performing High G turns. The manual is some what lacking on combat tactics like what to do if i overshoot on a guns kill approach. I've been using the afterburner to make a high speed loop to go up and around and back behind the target or banking really hard like i said i can't seem to fix it down to 1 specific maneuver. I guess it just comes down to I don't know how to fight the MiG 21, Energy Fighter tactics or Dogfighting tactics.
-
I must have changed something then because i can't fire missiles unless i hold down the side button on my joystick then squeeze the trigger (also fires gun). do you know what the specific name of the commands are in the options so i can see if i messed up the button config when i added joystick commands to it.

I keep having the engine flame out in my MiG-21 while maneuvering. Is there some maneuver i shouldn't be attempting? or is it too quickly changing the throttle for the engine? its getting annoying because some times the emergency restart doesn't work.

Hi I was flying the MiG-21 and I was doing the Mission on aircombat the easy one. I launched a radar guided missile then turned on the cannon, switched the ASP switch to gun, and hit reload. The gun worked but when i switched back to missiles on the ASP switch and locked up another plane and pulled the trigger the cannon fired. I even powered off the cannon on the switch panel on the right side. Still no matter what pylon i selected whenever i tried to fire i got the cannon. Even when i ran out of ammunition, the cannon powered off, and the ASP mode to Missiles, i still can't fire. Can some one please tell me how i can fix this please?

Autolase I've tried raising the LS Time from 10 to 15 to 20 to 25 to 30 it just doesn't engage.
-
For some reason every mission i fly now with precision weapons e.g. GBU-12's I set auto lase on, with a ls time of 15, and i double checked to make sure these werent temporary profiles but when i drop the L in the TGP MFCD display stays solid. I wait and wait and nothing. I have to tap nose wheel steering to get the L to flash and lase the target. Any ideas on how i can fix this issue?
-
I just tried a bomb run and I noticed right before the bomb release that the point lock had drifted off the target, when i tried to correct it I got TGP AUTO LASE FAIL, how do I clear the error so I can get back in the fight?

I upgraded to the latest version and now when I attempt a cold start I can't get my MFCD panels to turn on. I'm following the same procedure I've used countless times and there is no error on the error panel thing. Some one please help.

In several missions on the runway when i bring up my radio menu it says VHF AM, and several options are in black. I've tried switching ever switch i could find on the radio panel to FM and nothing. Can some one please tell me how to switch to VHF FM

I'm flying a JTAC training mission and I have easy radio settings. when i bring up the radio menu I get 1 Wingman (its black in color) 2 Flight (black) 3 Second Element (black) 4 JTACs (Black) 5 ATC (White) 6 Tankers (Grey) 7 Awacses (white) AWACs and ATC respond but I get no response from my flight or from JTAC I noticed that at the top of the menu it says MAIN VHF AM JTAC is on 30.00mhz FM and its set at 30 I tried switching the various dials to FM but nothing changes on the menu. and yes i have my Track IR mapped so there isn't any conflict.

When I'm looking in my targeting pod and get a point lock on a target. It follows it but when I create a mark point for that. Does it follow the moving target or the ground where the target was? If this is correct and mark points are fixed, how can I track multiple moving targets
