Bob, What resolution are you playing the game at? Have you tried changing to other resolutions (particularly lower). You might also try turning all video settings to absolute minimums just to see if you stop getting memory errors. If you notice a difference, the problem is most certainly something about your video card. Obvious question: have you tried other video drivers?

Nice description Drone. Thank you! I have been doing almost what you describe except for turning on the music. I've realized beaming the target helps but didn't really think about ECM. Pretty obvious though. Things are a lot easier if you're in mountains. I get really brave with dodging missiles when I have some mountains to hide behind. I love to make them use up all their missiles then just boldly fly straight at them and waste them!

Heat signature from 65D? That's the way I tend to do it. Or has been said, let them find you.

left handed pilots, wheres the hardware?
snomhf replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Andrew, I am beginning to look into what it would take to make left-handed moulds of the CH handles. Since I still have the original "right-handed" handles that I took off when I made my lefty ones, I'm hoping I can figure out how to make some ceramic moulds that would allow me to mass produce them. The problem is getting the interior of the handle made to provide all the mounts for the button circuit boards and such. Moulding the outside of the handle is simple. I'll keep working on this and maybe come up with something. All you "just get used to it!" sissies can just turn your head the other way ok? -
Not to muddy the water too much here but I have found a much better technique to doing a profile map than using Modes. See my posting on "Modless profiles" here: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3123 The technique works very well and it's amazing how intuitive it becomes.

The CH guys are very helpful. If they are willing to look at your profile then by all means... I am happy to do the same. PM your map to me that doesn't work. That will help me the most. Yes, I suggest making a backup of a working profile before making a new change. That will help you isolate problems. I recommend you look for lomac maps (there are several really good ones around) and load them up as you work on yours. You can switch back and forth between yours and theirs as much as you want. I am currently working on a pretty complex Falcon4 map and I have four maps from other people that I can load up and study. That's the best way to learn. I strongly suggest you use mapped mode and learn to script. I am certain that it will not be long before you want to do something that cannot be done without scripting, especially with a jet sim. Might as well bite the bullet early on. You're a smart guy, you can handle it! :) Let me know how I can help.

Hi Capttrob, I'm pretty good with the CM. Nothing comes to mind as to your problem but I do have a couple of questions/suggestions. Are you scripting anything or just assigning commands to the devices themselves? Are you combining your devices or keeping them separate? Lomac works fine with separate devices so I recommend that. One thing I do when I get things in a weird state is to create a brand new profile map and begin to copy things over from my old one one command at a time until I discover the problem. Do you use the "Test Key" feature in CM? That is a must. With each assignment you make, you should always do a "Test Key" to make sure it works. Do you use CM buttons? That's a real stealthy part of the profile IMO and a great place for screw-ups. I have begun to use %DEFINEs in my scripts where each of the CM buttons I assign are given labels in the script. This helps you keep track of them. Example: %DEFINE ToggleCanopy CMS.B13 Do you use a CMC file or do you enter the commands directly? If you use a CMC, print it out and check it against the Lomac command summary to make sure it's right. You might try printing out your map in the CMCC utility and see if anything looks strange there. That's about all I can think of. Good luck. If you want to PM me your profile I'll be glad to take a look at it.

left handed pilots, wheres the hardware?
snomhf replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Actually, small general aviation aircraft like the Cessna 172 that I sometimes fly, is "left handed." You sit in the left seat and hold the yoke in your left hand while you work the throttle, trim wheel, and radios with your right. Identical to my CH rig. it's the military aircraft that are "right handed", GA craft tend to be "left handed." There's something to think about. I've had people tell me that if I ever got to fly a real F16 I would be totally screwed up with the controls since mine are backward. I lay awake at night worrying that if the Air Force were to call and ask me to squeeze my big fat 53 year old butt in one of their F16's that I might have a problem! Man, I can't handle all this! -

Actually, I made an avatar a long time ago while flying Remote Control and I wanted to use that but couldn't find it. Just without thinking really, I used this goofy picture of Hilary mainly because it made me laugh every time I looked at it. I recently found my RC avitar and may switch it out. Haven't decided yet. -

ggg, Your question (or my answer, whatever) is not totally fair as I am as vested in CH as a human being can be. Think about it, if I decide tomorrow that I want to change to the Cougar, that would mean making a trip down to Fowler's Florist. Not likely. Now, that being said, I REALLY like CH stuff. It's rugged, smooth, dependable. I have never moved a dead zone slider since the day I plugged the stuff in! I really love the scripting environment (Command Manager) too that comes with it. The big complaint is it lacks rotary dials that the Cougar and others have but I really don't see that as a big deal personally. Also, the Throttle Quadrant addon device is great too (don't have one yet) which migrates into the setup very nicely. BTW, the TQ is ambidexetrous so I won't have to start mixing up the 2-part epoxy when it arrives. Go check out CH's latest: http://www.chproducts.com Also, go hang out at their discussion forum: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum The forum is where you REALLY find out what people think about CH stuff. P.S. If you decide to go CH, you could probably twist my arm (left one) and get me to make you some handles and mail them to you. Course you'll have to do the hard part of mounting the switches and drilling the holes. I have the original handles so it would be easy to make templates to get the shapes correct so you get pretty much an exact (reversed) duplicate. -

Hey ggg, I say it's time for you to stand on yur hind legs and get to work with the foam and fiberglas! :) I'm telling you, you will love it. For the longest time, I fooled around with those crappy ambidexterous sticks and finally just decided I was "going for it!" So, GO FOR IT!! Good luck ;) -mark Edit: If you end up going with CH gear and make your own handles, I have a really nice profile that I put together and a form you can print out allowing you to label all the buttons and keep by your keyboard while you fly. I've put a lot of effort into it. I'm going to post it at the CH discussion forum when I get it all together. -

Mik, And I'm just having a bit of fun here myself. Trust me, I don't care one bit what anybody thinks of me or my left-handedness. I don't want sympathy or understanding or anybody feeling my pain. This just sounded like a fun exchange and I did feel the desire to offer ggg something other than just "getting over it." BTW, I was an adult by the time I first got my hands on those darn left-handed scissors. I couldn't cut crap with em. I kept pushing the blades apart! I never picked a pair of them up again. So there, mikoraid, you see, I can adapt to your world after all! -

That's a very "milk toast" attitude there mi[l]koriad! ;) Have you ever broken your right hand and had to write and eat with your left for a while? Ok, then you know what this is all about. I say, if you want to do something bad enough then DO IT! -

That's the sissy approach to this right hander's world! ;) I say don't give in and "do it their way!" Fight back! When I was a kid, I wanted to be a baseball catcher. NO ONE made a left handers catching mit. Beetlejuice would have me learn to throw right handed I guess. (Just playing with you here Juice. :p) Not me man! I picked up an old mit, took it apart and bought some leather and reversed all the pieces and made myself a left handed catchers mit! So take that right handed world! Ok, I admit, I'm a bit over the top. But aren't you glad that there are a few of us around who don't just go with the flow and will stand up against the norm? -
left handed pilots, wheres the hardware?
snomhf replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi ggg, I'm an ole' time radio control pilot with a lot of experience making engine cowlings, nacelles, and fuselages out of fibreglas. Basically, I bought a block of that green styrofoam potting plant stuff from a garden center and carved it in the shape of a CH FighterStick. I did the same thing for the Pro Throttle. Then I covered the carved foam moulds with fiberglas. Using a bandsaw, I split the handle down the middle, scooped out the foam and built little mounts for the electronics, drilled the holes, etc. and replaced the original handles with my own. It was a lot of work but it was fun and they have worked perfectly. Of course the hats on the PT are upside down but you just have to keep that in mind when you're programming (MicroStick Up is really Down for me, etc). Pretty easy to deal with. Naturally, the warranty is voided instantantly but I'm not much of a warranty kind of guy anyway. So, sound like a new hobby for you? Good luck -mark -

It's a conspiracy. They're out to get us! ;) I made my own handles out of fiberglas several years ago. Works great.: http://forum.lockon.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=4988&d=1142435970 -
Does anybody here use GameCommander?
snomhf replied to Wild.Bill.Kelso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I have GC2 working well now with FC. Many thanks to Wild Bill and Fish for sharing their profiles with me. I ended up using a blend of both of them together with my own. WB, you don't request four to pincer low very often do you? ;) -
I thought I was the only one! This has done this from day one for me. I'm scared to death to mess with it. I'll just let it do the check every time. To me, it's not worth the risk for such a small detail.

Capt Rob, Have you seen this? http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?p=180601#post180601 It looks promising. I think I'm going to give it a shot.

Thank you. I'll give it a try. Wild Bill, I'm sure Fish is referring to GC2. I think he means the "Push To Talk" feature when he says "Activate Button". The manual uses both of these terms too. Also, there is a "silence between words" setting you can adjust. I played around with it a bit as well. -
It was GGT calling it a "bug", not me. Maybe you meant to quote him and not me. I'm trying to stay out of that fight (being the noob here and all). I'm just whining that the hud ques are not as good as they should be with respect to AR.

Thanks for the profile Wild Bill. I got GC2 installed and updated with the latest patch. I installed your profile. I have to say I was a little disappointed. It seems to guess wrong a lot, especially in phrases that start out the same way: "Tower request for takeoff", "Tower request to taxi". It gets those two fine but if I say "Tower request blah blah blah" (just make some kind of sound after the work "request"), it guesses at one of the "Tower request" phrases. It should come back "unrecognize" but it never does. Pretty disappointing. Maybe it's my southern accent doing it but I don't recall it giving me this much trouble before. Besides, my accent is not that thick. :) Maybe I need to do some tweeking? I played around a lot with setting the mic volume. Ended up setting it extremely low (like around 25) and it hears me fine and recognizes the whole list of phrases just fine. It's only when I end a phrase wrong that it messes up. I'll keep playing with it.
